Fill your tanks, fuel shortage coming - CONFIRMED

Featured Replies

Looking at the graphs perhaps we should not complain too much, it shows petrol per litre to have approximately doubled since 1996, but crude oil prices have increased fivefold, someone must be absorbing these increased costs:confused:

With regards to closing down the refinery, there are also a vast amount of petrochem plants owned by Ineos on the site, the refinery is a pretty small part overall. I do not believe they will shut down completely, I imagine they will leave as much "hot" stuff running if possible to ensure as speedy as possible a restart.

I presume their figure of a month is to get the full plant up and running again and the refinery would be at full capacity within a week

You get a lot more than petrol/derv out of a barrel of crude. I bet you the price of plastics and derived products has gone through the roof to pay for the more expensive oil.

The only fuel shortages so far are being caused by panick buying.

Correct, I used to work in plastic injection manufacturing. Over the last year or so, our raw material suppliers have been increasing their prices.

We then had to increase our prices to our customers, which didn't go down well!

no one is getting robbed out of anything, they aren't touching the pensions for existing workers only changing the rules for new employees.

What is good for one is good for another I think!!!!!!!!!:thumbdwn:

Will work from home today & grab the ferry to Holland overnight tomorrow I guess ;)

long way to go to get some fuel

i think the media are fuelling the panic (if you'll pardon the pun) rather than reassuring.

who would you rather believe?

the man from The Retail Motor Industry Federation, who say there is enough in the country to last everybody 70 days, and

"If retailers are not getting fuel from Grangemouth they will source it from elsewhere.

"The Ineos plant only really supplies Scotland so to suggest that Newcastle or Yorkshire would be affected is ridiculous."

or, the man who makes money out of us all buying his fuel, Ineos CEO Tom Crotty, who has said:

any strike would have "significant consequences" for people in Scotland and the north of England.

and

"A 48-hour strike will cause fuel chaos in Scotland and the North of England for weeks on end."

I presume (but might be wrong) that the refinery also makes aero fuel, but you don't hear of BA, bmi or any of the other airlines who use Scottish Airports panicking, do you ?

A lot of fuss over nothing.

And given the current economy crisis, a fuel blockade's gonna really help.

People chose to vote Labour in again, along with over 50% of people who chose not to vote at all.

And the Tories dont get away scot free, having introduced the fuel escalator in the first place.

Only one real choice left! Dont waste your vote! Vote MRLP!

The Scots always harp on about independence so obviously this will be good practise for if their refinery ever goes bang.

It seems to have calmed down a bit. Forecourts were busy but no huge queues.

I think everyone who wanted to fill up has.

Thats a bit generic isnt it ;)

Airports are supplied with a network of pipes to pump the fuel to them.

are these magic pipes that produce magic fuel or do they run from a refinery.....

Tenerefe airport isn't. I know that for a fact as I stuffed a rented Vauxhaul Corsa underneath a tanker on its way there some years ago :D One less Corsa is a good thing, and we weren't hurt, so all was well

Buncefield as an example is a hub for airport fuel piping as it serves London, Heathrow and Gatwick.

Airports rely on piped fuel to eliminate the huge tank farms that would otherwise be required.

I work right next door to Leeds/Bradford Airport, wonder if I can tap into their pipeline;)

I think Palma , Mallorca is tanker fed too , I used to notice loads of 'Campsa' tankers going to and fro whenever Ive been there.

Pretty sure the whole UK is now linked up. Buncefield was out for a longtime, and there werent any fuel shortages or panic buying ;)

If only someone could build such a pipe into this country from somewhere where the petrol costs 20p a litre.

If you find a way give me a buzz, I'll give you 50p a litre

I will not be bothered about the fuel issues until a tanker gets dropped of at work then i know there will be problems. Until then i will carry on as normal.

So has anyone noticed panic buying? Must admit I've only seen the normal queues

or is it all staying normal

Just get it sorted before I get back to the UK again please :P

All seems normal around here (Hull) :)

Pumps are starting to run dry of diesel around Dundee and Tayside.

Local Esso has bumped UL by 4p to 110.9
