Cheap 312mm Discs and Pads

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I have just acquired some 312mm calipers, carriers and spring retaining clips.

Do I need anything else to fit these apart from the discs and pads?

Where the cheapest place for discs and pads?

Copper slip :)

I'd use the brembo discs from GSF and either pagid/mintex/textar (OEM equiv) pads or EBC redstuff ceramic V3 pads.

Others have used the DS2500 and rate them highly, but I can't as i've never used them myself.

Would not have anything to do with EBC if I was you

The green stuff warped discs and red stuff need warming up before they work

Sorry

Sarah

I currently run EBC discs and they're proving a decent combination with DS2500s. No complaints here. I got them from ebcdirect.com and the pads came as part of the upgrade pack I purchased from another member :)

Have to agree that EBC pads are best avoided though! :thumbdwn:

If I was needing new pads I'd probably go with 2500s again, if funds allowed (circa £100 a set) or Mintex Xtremes (if you can find them). Failing that, OEM equivalent (normal Mintex or Pagid).

Steve

My greenstuff pads ripped the F##k out of my disc's. Didnt last long.

Sorry Sarah, that's cr*p!

The RedStuff Ceramic V3 do not need warming up at all.

I'm running them on an Octy II and having put about 6000 miles on them they have been faultless rain or shine and there was absolutely no lack of bite even in the snow we had. There is at least as much bite as the OEM pads when cold.

I know other people who have run the V3 pad who say the same as me.

I know you have a product to sell, which is why awesome pay to be on here, but I suggest you get your facts correct before you post such comments.

The EBC reds of old used to need warming up, but the current compound has the same characteristics as the DS2500 according to the two spec sheets at half the price.

The mintex extreme were withdrawn because of issues relating to disc wear.

That plus the TUV approval they have suggest they can't be that bad.

Yes Awesome pay me to come on here and also Awesome pay to advertise on here

But that is NOT all the b all and end all here

I am sorry but I am a huge fan os Skoda , always have been and always will be

I am sorry , but where on this thread have I said "go for our products over someone elses"?

No I have not

Also I have had alot of dealings with Green stuff and as has been said on this thread they do warp discs and are not the best

The red stuff pads are for rally use or heavy race days and do require warming up before they reach any kind of good usage

Oh , now would that be what you mean about facts?

Sarah

Rubbish, the Reds are for fast road use these days.

They are specifically not for regular rally or heavy race days (label in my box says so), that is now the duty of the Yellow stuff and above.

EBC Brakes - Home of the worlds largest range of brake products - Automotive Brake Product Selector

If you look at the above link (from EBC not a reseller) you will see the reds are described as "Superstreet" and the yellows as "Ultra High Friction Track & Street".

Green: EBC Brakes - Home of the worlds largest range of brake products - Greenstuff Brake Pad Information

Red: EBC Brakes - Home of the worlds largest range of brake products - Redstuff Brake Pad Information

Yellow: EBC Brakes - Home of the worlds largest range of brake products - Information on Yellowstuff Brake Pads

So I suggest you get your facts right before coming back at me.

Also the discs you have warped you previously blamed on the Brembo discs in another thread and recommended ones you sell instead. So was it the greens or the Brembo discs that caused the warping on your car, or perhaps some other factor?

EDIT: Looking at the link you gave there is no info on there and they are just a mail order company.

Play nicely please people.

Mark - No need to be so forceful when pointing things out.

Sorry Stu

I have not put on any links here or reccomended any other products

As far as I am aware as an Paid Advertiser you are at liberty to recommend your products as you see fit. My concern was that you were being drawn into an argument/debate which may not have been appropriate when posting under the username associated with the Awesome sponsorship.

I see no reason why you cannot be a member yourself outside of work and discuss things until your heart is content.

sorry but

EBC pads are terrible

end of.

used green and red in the past.. exactly as sarah says.

Sorry Paul, while previously I would have agreed with you on that, the new Red compound is very good. It isn't breaking up, it does not have any cold braking issues and stops very well IMHO.

Stu, point taken.

Anyway, back to the OP, for cheap I would go with the brembo discs from GSF and I guess we've done the pads thing to death.

well I know of other users on here who would disagree strongly having thrown virtually brand new sets in the bin.....

Were they the redstuff ceramic or the redstuff ceramic V3?

The reason I ask is that EBC have pretty much admitted the old stuff was crap.

no idea. i wont go near ebc ever again.

where as masses of people have used DS pads and not had problems... (well the 3000s squeak but then you can outbrake 911 turbos with them)

Just get oem pads. I've run OEM pads of every 312mm based brake setup car I've had.

And as I don't do trackdays etc in the cars they stand up absolutely fine. Effective braking can be as much the driver skill to the pads/disc in use.

I'd be one of them. Having worked for a known tuner that supplied and fitted EBC brakes I had nothing but ball ache with them. Discs warping, noisy brakes and generally poor peformance when the going got tough.

Wouldnt touch them with a barge pole.

But thats all based on nothing more than my meagre experiance.

I carried out some tests for a pad supplier on various pads. 3 of the pads tested were EBC reds (ceramic V3), ebc greens and EBC yellows.

Lets just say I would let neither the greens or reds near my car. The greens caught fire due to excessive heat and the reds crumbled. The yellows lasted well and resisted the heat well, but didn't give the retardation of say a Pagid black or orange (competitor pads) or even a DS2500.

I really don't get this, the Red, Yellow and DS2500 all now have a ceramic compound and a friction co-efficient of 0.5 across the board.

I certainly have no complains about the Reds for road use, but I'll freely admit I wouldn't use them on the track and would go for something else in that situation.

I was always a fan of the Pagid pads, but does anyone know where you can get pagid blue/black from these days as I can't find people who sell them :(

I'd have a chat with Alyn at AS Performance. +44 191 410 3770 Brakes - AS Performance

He used to post on here as Stockcar.

Also you could try AAT, again they used to post on here.

i use the ds2500's with oem disks and they are even good on track too:thumbup:
