Best place to buy wheel bearing?

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I need to replace my near side front wheel bearing due to groaning and some fairly heavy wheel wobble at around 50-60 mph.

Where is the best place to buy the parts? Is it worth paying the extra for Genuine parts?

Thanks

Chris

any of your local part suppliers will do. Makes to look for BRT, SNR, QH, and many more but stay clear of white box no brand types. Partco(unipart) is the biggest uk parts supplier so you cant really go wrong.

They come with a 2 year warranty.

OEM parts may not be as expensive as you think. I was surprised at the price when my front wheel bearing was replaced on the last Octy.

Which Octavia do you have???

A knackered wheel bearing shouldnt give you a wheel wobble unless its collapsing. Thats more than likely a wheel balance or tyre issue. Bear in mind if you have an out of shape tyre it can sound very much like a knackered bearing.

Thanks for the replies guys.. I called Skoda (Canterbury) on Sat morning, they said they had one in stock and if I got the car there my 10:30 they would do it that day... They only charged 1hr labour and knocked off the RS Tax so no premium vRS rate... I happened to be going to canterbury on Sat anyway... Sorted!! £120 all in :)

Wheel wobble has mostly gone now, still very slight. I think the knackered wheel bearing just enhanced the out of ballance wheel. Oh... Car is an 05 mk1 Octy vRS.

Cheers

£120 seems steap to me as the wheel bearing full retail from my work is £39.99

so 80 quid for 1 hour labour is about twice the uk average , i would go to an independent garage and save money on exactly the same repair job the steeler would do, i mean its not requiring a diagnostic plug in to fit and any garage mechanic has done more than his/her fair share of wheelbearing replacements.

It probably is a bit steep, but they did it that day, gave me a hire car which I think was £12.50 of the total price. Im getting married this week and wanted it done quickly so didnt shop arround.

Congrats on the big day when it comes hope it goes well:thumbup:

I paid £19 for the bearing and £40 to fit:thumbup:
