is it me or is the fuel seeming to be worse?

Featured Replies

Got back last night and have noticed over the past week that im actually getting less mpg than what i was a few weeks ago. sure its warmed up abit and that in theory means the car should warm up quicker and not have to use as much fuel, but im wondering if the recent introduction of bio to the fuel is anything to do with it?

My car has been running like a bag of sh!te recently. I recon it is something to do with fuel quality as the car is mechanically mint.

I also am only getting about 32mpg, but ill blame that on running 230bhp when its only supposed to run 130bhp :o

Funnily enough - now you mention it yes, I was thinking the same myself.

Filled up with Tesco 99 RON (which I usually use) on Thursday but the car just feel like it has the same ooomph it had a couple of weeks ago.

Hopefully its just in my mind after reading stories in the press!

Now you mention it, I've seen a slight increase in cinsumption, I think.

Its because its getting warmer...

a couple of weeks before the bio came in i started to notice it but put it down to the colder weather, but now its warmed up and all you can get is the fuel with 5% bio im now thinking only one thing it could be. Would an octane boost additive or maybe redex injector cleaner in the tank make any difference?

Its because its getting warmer...

Surely that should have the opposite effect?

this time last year when i got the car i was getting 40mpg on the same journey that im only get 30-34mpg on, ive changed the air filter (so its clean) and so in theory it should be getting 40mpg or if not more as the car was brand new and has now been run in (loosened up).

I've noticed similar too. I've got 45mpg using cruise control on the motorway last summer, now it's nearer 40. But can get it back to 45 mpg if I carry more weight....weird.

I haven't noticed a decrease in efficiency but I have noticed the car's started throwing a huge cloud out the back on start up.

Just had the 40k service so new, clean filters all around.

I'm getting noticably better consumption than I was a month or so back.

Warm , dry and light evenings mean that I can sometimes get to 55mpg on the way home instead of the 51 I was getting , and on the way in to work I get 53 instead of 49-50

Ive not seen over 28mpg over a tank in the Octy :(

i want the Sootmonster back :o

Mine sounds a bit louder for some reason.

Quit whinning and deal with it woman ......you know you love it really

I had felt mine was feeling a little bogged down lately as well though

I got a reported 74.2mpg and calculating it after filling the tank worked it out at almost 72mpg.

Something to be said for running at 60mph and keeping it off the turbo too much.

Back driving normally I'm now up to averaging around the 55-60mpg mark.

Oooooh , I bet that's painful.

Mk2 TDI coming soon perhaps?

Hmm, at the rate of diesel prices rising i doubt that either... will have to start using the peasant wagon. for work :thumbdwn:

A remapped Fiat Panda diesel was looking like a tempting option , I must admit

What_diesel_price_rise?

-----------------------------

Fuel prices could rise by 60%

"The average price of petrol is currently 109.8p a litre and diesel is 119.8p a litre.

Should OPEC's predicted 60% rise occur, that would mean a litre of petrol would cost 175.7p and a litre of diesel would cost 191.7p."

Well don't forget that a 60% rise in oil price doesn't mean a 60% rise in fuel at the pumps as there's the cost of refining plus all the tax as well

28 !!

Me thinks you dont drive like how i did !!

I never got below 30 ! ;)

Agreed. From the figures Declan 'I'd love a' Curry was using this morning, only 33p in the price of a litre fuel is the actual fuel - 66p is tax and 9p goes to the retailer (assuming average petrol is £1.08 per litre, diesel obviously is a bit more).

Therefore 60% in the price of oil would add 20p and possibly a few more pence to the retailer's costs. So maybe it would add 25p to the price per litre to petrol (example costd above) and 30p to diesel?

EDIT: and I've assumed that all the front end costs increase by the said 60% (processing, transport etc) not just the price of crude. So the increase might even be less than 25p.

The increase in fuel consumption will be an effect of the bio fuel.

I had a hire car in Australia last month (where 10% bio is readily available) and the manual specifically stated that consumption would suffer if the E10 bio-fuel was used.

However, this was offset by the 94RON E10 being cheaper than 91RON standard unleaded...

No such luck here of course... adding bio to our fuel means we have to buy more of it and therefore pay more tax :rubchin:

I know I'm getting LESS MPG with Vpower than normal diesel.

Only doing it to get the Ferrari model cars you get by buying v-power.

so i am right the bio fuel burns more. might have to try 95 ron and see if i get the same or similar then lol
