England Fans Set To Skip Work To Watch Big Game

With England's Euro 2004™ campaign under way, research issued today by Hyundai, official partner of UEFA Euro 2004™, has found that the nation's businesses might find themselves short staffed on Thursday (17 June 2004) as fans prepare to skip work to watch England's big game against Switzerland.

England's second match of Euro 2004™ kicks off at 17.00 (BST) and 62 per cent of fans questioned in Hyundai's nationwide survey of over 10,000 football fans, said they will be taking the day off or bunking off work early to make sure they see every kick.

It would also appear that the nation's football fans are more passionate about the beautiful game than spending time with their partners. Less than 10 per cent of fans will be watching England's matches with their other half, with 67 per cent instead preferring to cheer on the boys with mates in the pub.

Hyundai's spokesman, Rodney Kumar, said: "It seems that the majority of the country's workforce will not be where they should be when the action kicks off on Thursday. Euro 2004™ is a special event in the football calendar and fans want to see the full match, so for most, skipping work early is the only way."

Following these startling results, Hyundai has installed a number of big screens in its High Wycombe head office for staff to watch the game, so it will be business as usual for customers.

Interesting way of wording it - I like: I doubt Hyundai will have many customers in the showrooms during the game ;)

err..it's a 5pm kick-off. Most of the dealers will be getting ready to close

My MD has permitted us all to bunk off early to see the game!

Good luck England :)

Wish ours would, looks like radio will be the order of the day here.

Whats Football ?

Whats Football ?

It's apparently a game where 22 grown up lads ,(alledegly) kick a bladder of air around. These 'men' spit and swear a lot,and also get paid obscene amounts of money because of all those people that watch them, who also have to pay obscene amounts of money for that privelage

After the game is over, the players moan a lot about what might have been if only etc., and the 'fans' go on the rampage and smash peoples things up and then have a jolly good fight.

Lovely game.
