The next level........

Featured Replies

I'm going off on one again....

Have been thinking lately about taking my car to the next level......

After a lengthy chat with Mike at Jabba I'm now thinking of their new hybrid IHI/Garrett turbo setup. With my engine rebuild taking the capacity up to 1900cc I would be looking at around 430 hp and 400 ibs/ft torque....

Will keep you all posted!

Steve:)

Not selling it anymore then?

Umm, waste of time and money my mad friend. You will never be able to use all that power with the front wheel drive set up. Trust me I know.

What is your engine output Des?

There is another hybrid kit they do which is around 390hp / 375 ibs/ft torque.....

Decisions, decisions.....

I have spent far too much on it, the car is in better condition now than when I picked it up with 4 miles on the clock nearly 6 years ago.......

I'm well past the point of selling it, I will run the thing into the ground!

don't bother, waste of time really.

as said you'll never get the power down and also by going bigger turbo you'll probably be sacrificing mid range so infact making it even worse as you'll have nothing in the midrange compared to now and then all of a sudden you'll have wheel spin.

Buy EddyH's old car, as it's for sale again. See the for sale section.

hell yeah, that would be a far better solution :D

I don't really know but I can't run full boost or anywhere near it. My set up is probably good for 450/500bhp and even with the stripped out car, I can spin the wheels at 1.5 bar with 20% gain on the boost controller.

Mind you you are running the Diesel box so may be a little more forgiving with a lead boot.

?????where!!

Only if you use a cheap manifold. My GT30 is fully spooled at 3.5k rpm with a proper equal length manifold not the rubbish I have seen on here. EGT,s are the lowest I have ever seen with this manifold.

Think about fitting in a 4x4 drive from any other compatible VAG car.

That way you can have summat downright insane!

Do keep us posted

Maurice Reeves is now running 476bhp in his front wheel drive MK1 golf, that weighs just over 900kg!!! on road tyres he doesnt seem to have a problem with traction,

His is mapped so it doesnt come in with a big thump, its a more liniar power curve.

Luke.

p.s. the owens/garrett is fun :D

The plan.......

Gearbox will be coming out in 2 weeks time for stripping, new dogs ****** Sachs clutch and flywheel to go in.

Will be ordering:

  • JE pistons - 83mm bore (1900cc) and a compression ratio of 8.75:1
  • Pauter rods with 20mm wrist pins
  • Inconel/nitrade valves (20)
  • Some fancy inlet manifold
  • Methanol/water snow kit from Jabba

Items to be fitted over the summer.

Trip to Jabba (Autumn time) for:

  • 628cc injectors
  • New turbo inlet pipe work
  • Garratt/IHI hybrid
  • Re-map

Trip to solicitors to update my will.......

With my diesel gearbox I am hoping putting the power down will be a touch easier than with the very short ratios of the petrol 6 speed box.

The plan is at least 450bhp and 400 ibs/ft torque.

I want something ridicules, insane, but completely standard ish looking, a real Ferrari 430 /911 GT2 killer. Something to stick up the exhaust pipes of 100K+ super cars........the quest for the ultimate in reverse snobbery continues.
