I'm the owner of a Octavia 1.8T. The modifications brought to my car as far are :

- computer remapping (DimSport software > theoreticaly 196HP & 258Nm ,no dyno yet)

- Borla Pro-Xs exaust system

- Simoni Racing gear shift knob & frame(ring), handbrake, pedals, footrest, gas cap

- Milotec sports grille & headlamp covers

- Mattig rear wing

- Alpine Cda-9812 HU, Infinity Kappa comps & coax, Alpine Swr-1221 sub(bandpass box), Alpine Mrd-M300 amp

The car has 70k Km and 3.5 years !

Thanx for the welcome guys. I'm sure i still have to work a lot on my english. As with the wider tires, there's no logical explanation since the car is FWD (maybe a little bit more stable on corners). The real problem is that when i bought the wheels, i miscalculated the total diameter of the wheel. Front wheel is very close to the original one but the rear one should have been 235/40/17 instead of 235/45/17 !

fuscobal, your English is excellent! What was the original wheel/tyre size on your car? The UK spec for the vRS Hatch is 6.5J x 17" wheels and 205/50 R17 tyres.

Mine is not vRS but 20VT(150HP). The stock tires were 195/65/15. From what i know, here, the vRS comes with 16'' wheels and not 17'' !

The UK model comes with 17" wheels. Ireland and by the sound of it, most other European countries supply vRSs with 16" ones.

195/65 R15 is the standard size for the Ambiente spec Octavia in the UK. I fed your tyre sizes into the tyre size calculator here, fuscobal. The original circumference was 1993mm. Your new front tyres are 1964mm - meaning the speedo will read faster than it should by 1.45% - and the rear tyres are 2021mm. Had you fitted 235/40 R17s to the rear the figure would have been 1947mm - much nearer to the figure for the new fronts.

Yes, i know. I did the calculs myself few month ago. The weird part is that while i was traveling with 69 Km/h, i was caught by the radar with 71km/h on a 70 limitation area and got a ticket ! I argued with them trying to explain that my speedo was pointing 69 but they said their radar is perfectly calibrated !

I worked on a VW instrument cluster about three years ago and from what I remember, there is a calibratable option that allows the instrument cluster to be configured for different sizes of wheels/tyres - to give correct speed and distance readings. I was not involved with programming that part of the system so I don't know all the details, but it might be something the dealer can change.
