Rely on self control, not lack of control - Octy vRS dsg build.

Well I test drove a 1.4 Roomster, whilst it's good I really doubt I'll enjoy it, less so 4 up each with 20kg packs. AS such I think control will have to come by way of self control and not reliant on the lack of control as offered by less focused vehicles.

So I noticed the new offer and what the hell, I'll get back on the finance band wagon.

Here's what I'm thinking, anything missing from this, I thought cruise was odd as it's the dsg, but I'll check up.

Octavia Estate vRS 2.0 CR 170bhp DSG -Candy White

optional equipmet

Cruise control (£180)

Heated front seats (£250)

Xenon headlights with integrated headlight washers (£550)

With the free 18's, jumbo box etc I think that completes it. I've picked dsg as I kind of want auto easy drive, although that might change to a manual. But as I'm hitting 25k a year has to be the diesel unit.

So now all I have to do is find a buyer for my cars :)

Don't forget the mandatory maxidot Colin - and probably rear parking sensors too :)

Would be a lovely car for sure...

I'd save the £250 on the heated seats. I've never once missed them on mine.

Yes agreed, Maxidot and rear parking are good features.

I also went for rain sensing wipers/autolights/auto dimming mirror - cheap option and nice to have

What happened to the mx5 ?

Isn't maxidot just an animated screenwash empty thing tough?

I've yet to find out what it gives me in real world benefit. On an A6 I took out it had animated stuff, linked to the nav system. Dam nice motor though A6 s-line on a 56 plate, just a stupidly useless boot for me, need to carry a boot boy to get to the back of it :) But I realised that I need comforts sitting at the lights in the roomster.

Mx5 is cleaned and serviced on the drive, but it can only just hold two bags of climbing gear and makes roundabouts f'ing scary with 40kgs in the boot.

Heated seats, arh but I truly love mine; although did do without for a few months. But totally needed for me coming of a cold hill side.

Wies civic has the autolight/wipers thing, I like it, but not enough to part cash for, besides gives me something to do whilst driving.

Deffo wouldn't be without parking sensors. Used to think they were for wimps, but you can't see a thing out the back - saved me several scrapes already.

The maxidot opens up a wealth of menus and customisable settings :) It is an upgraded information centre, and adds a bit of class to the dashpod.

If nothing else, it will certainly increase the desireability come resale time :)

the DSG box is great on SWMBO's golf... although thats with TFSI not derv... but i suspect it will work with derv just as well...

get the options you want... im also surprised cruise is not std with the dsg.

would suggest privacy glass so that prying eyes dont take a shine to whats in the back.

will of course make it into the ghost of tavia4x4 if you add a 9 inch suspension lift....

Yes, it will need some heavy tints on the rear, graduated up to the fronts...but thats' about the only mod for three years ;)

But that's going to have to be done after delivery as the stock sunset tint's are not that dark.

If I'd not seen the dsg option on the rs, it would be a clone as I was back to thinking about a 4x4 estate, for the dsg diesel... :D

Maxidot integrates very nicely with the MFD2 or MFD3, either of which would be an upgrade over the standard audio in my opinion.

I'd take the DSG over the manual shift I think as the DMF issues with the manual box are fecking annoying.

Sounds like a good car, but are cruise and parking sensors really optional on the VRS

White is going to be so common, You really want yellow boss :D

DSG on my dad's 140 is nice but I find it revs too high before it changes gear. Don't really like the manual side of it (unless it comes with button on the wheel?) The Maxidot is a nice touch. Never took a liking to parking sensors but thats only because renault ones let you hit thngs before they warn you  They seem much better on the octy as my dad uses front and back all the time.

Heated seats is a must :D

How much is your old octy worth now?

Do you think they aren't having problems with the DSG then .

Pretty much covered above but I would add -

Sunset Glass

Maxidot

Cruise

Rear Sensors

Light Assist/Auto Wipers

If you can afford it and think you'll be doing lots of miles then I think you'd find the Columbus invaluable, not just for SatNav but also the audio capabilities.

Cruise is still an option on the Golf with DSG so I'd expect it to be the same for the Octy.

That will look the dogs danglies. Would it be worth your while to take a trip across the water for one (you could visit the relatives aswell :D). Some of the options in the UK are standard Equipment here.

If you send me the full final spec I could get you a rough price to see if its worth your while ;)

now that would have made me **** myself laughing.... :)

drove the old "thursday" night route on sunday evening with the ambulances former keeper... was interesting to note how poor his current estate is over that route - makes you realise how good the mk1 was... although nothing scares ants with its wing mirrors under hard cornering like a 4x4 elegance over rivington..

I guess it will be an import then though. Not sure how that stacks up over here, now and in the future.

But it's a thought if I did the deal with a suitcase of cash, but I'm thinking about finance as I could do with a small cash back injection to get a new roof on the house; hence chop both cars in.

Priceless!

Sadly the bump I took falling to earth means I'm looking at sub 5k and that's with 9 wheels and rubber!

It's not in a concourse condition and tipped over 100k last week. Still goes round corners well though, which is why I'm still confused as to why I'm selling it, but I am :D

For marginally more (£21,526.21) I'd get the Passat PD170 DSG $Motion with the options listed above.

Just my opinion.

Although an L200 looks tempting ;)

Once you cross that 20k threshold a whole raft of things become possible.

Including Transporter vans with installable crew seats, 6 up and double mattress in the back! Result for the 5 female passenger scenario of course. Mindful I'd have space for my bivi bag in the door pocket/dash for any other scenario :P

Clare's been hitting 60+ out of her civic, and as she's onto a lease car in a week or so, I'm marginally tempted unless I strike soon to take that off her and open my own dam garage :D Anybody want to buy one of the following:

52 Octy MkI - 97/100 - 100k White - Modified

04 Mx-5 Euphonic 13k - Silver - Std

56 Civic 2.2 ES 33k - Silver - Std

S Xantia 1.9 oodles of miles Blue - Std

Getting there I reckon.

I guess it will be an import then though. Not sure how that stacks up over here, now and in the future.
Surely if the spec is right then it shouldn't be an issue :)

And especially if you are going to be doing 25K a year. I'd go the Irish route.

Off topic but isnt the new tax prices a pain. Makes car choosing and finding even harder.

Do you think they aren't having problems with the DSG then .

Speaking to a dealer they hadn't seen many problems with the DMF on DSG equipped cars compared to the manual boxes. I assumed it was something to do with the multiple clutch design within the box.

All I do know is that the DMF is a piece of brain dead (IMHO) over complicated design and whoever thought it was a good idea should be shot.

I'm now actively hunting down SMF replacement for next time it goes.:thumbdwn:
