That's it really folks - just trying to get a feeling for what the going rate is at a main dealer. Anyone had the treatment recently?

I'm on 46k/4 years but being reminded that SUK recommend 60k OR 4 years....

I'm minded to leave it to 60k and/or do it myself - has anyone with a BLT engine done a belt kit DIY? (and, if so, does the procedure differ much from MoggyTech's (excellent) tech guide?)

Also is an '06 BLT unit likely to have the metal impeller water pump fitted?

Yes, I had this done by a main dealer in September although only 33k miles on the clock it was 4 years so due. It was not cheap, listed on invoice as £249 (labour plus parts) + VAT. With the service itself, and other bits they needed, the final bill was a mind numbing £578. Basically whatever price they quote for the service, add about £300 to it for the cambelt.

It's worth using search here and also shopping around. I have seen this done much cheaper, if I'd had the time I might have seen if I could get a better price even if it meant travelling to a different dealer or maybe a Briskoda sponsor. I have no mechanical skills at all so DIY was not an option.

This thread has depressed me because it has reminded me I spent over £500 on my car and what did I get at the end of it? A bit of paper and a rubber stamp :giggle: Still the way I drive and with a remap I have peace of mind the belt is not going to snap.

Try this place http://www.thevwaudispecialists.co.uk/ in Coventry (its not that far from derbysire - about an hour tops) I have used then for servicing since my 'warranty' expired and will be using them for my cambelt in 6k miles.
Not sure on price but my 40K service was £175 approx and they give 10% discount the first time you use them.
Give them my name and I get 20 quid off my next service (they run an incentive scheme for recommendations)
Worth a look if you can spare the time to visit them.

Thanks for these replies, my dealer is quoting around £320 but currently minus a £50 special offer, so £270 until end of this month.

I guess that will go up another £100-ish if I ask them to replace the water pump as a precaution?

I saved a pretty packet by sticking with a trusted independent who was happy for me to supply parts. Doesn't help if you want the best history possible in your book but I still get stamps for the work.

Although I had a new damper and something else I bought:
-Fuel filter
-Oil filter
-Air filter
-Pollen filter
-5L PD oil
-Timing belt kit
-Water pump

(roughly £160-£165)

+ around £240 labour (maybe a little more). Saved a decent amount that way..

I've just had my 40k service done by Unit18, very good value at £425 all in including labour, VAT and genuine VAG parts. This included the cambelt & waterpump, coolant and oil change and air, fuel, oil and pollen filter change. I might also have accidently had fitted some 312mm brakes, Jabbasport ARB, Eibach springs and cupra console bushes for a little extra too  Much better than the main dealer who wanted £800+ just for the belt change!

My vRS is booked in next week at the local dealers for it's 4 year/40k service. Also needs brake fluid change too price quoted was £290ish for the cambelt but i have a 15% off voucher so that knocks it down to around £245ish and about £200 for the rest of the service. Water pump will be checked but they reckon should be ok as only done 36k.

Cheers

Dave.
