went out to the superb tonight to go and fill up with some diesel for tomorrow, and noticed the front offside tyre near enough flat, so i went and broke out the spare tyre etc, had some fun trying to get the wheel off as i have never used a locking wheel nut before but i got the hang of it, the spare is now on securely and going to the tyre shop tomorrow to get it looked at, i did notice that mine has no labels saying it is limited to 50 MPH unlike Wayne's? pics follow and i also hate the idea of having one spare steel wheel and all the rest alloys, the spare tyre should match all the rest of the wheels on the car in my opinion

Sorry to hear, Ian.

Wot happened?

Nail?

U know I had trouble too getting my wheel off?

So I got a looooong breaker bar in my boot now! :-)

I agree - space savers look ugly.

But I guess its just to save weight.

U think u can fit in a smaller alloy spare in boot?

Where u gonna buy a new tyre from?

don't know what bust the tyre Wayne? i checked over it but couldn't see anything that could deflate it, maybe a bad seal or valve, will find out tomorrow morning after i come back from my school contract, the nuts came off not to bad, had to stand on the bar to get them off but it did work eventually, heres hoping its an easy fix.

p.s. the name is Denis ;)

Oops!

Sorry Denis!

Fingers crossed its a cheap £15 repair!

no worries, hope the tyre is repairable cause i want to keep all the same tyres on each wheel (currently has continentals all round) and they are quite expensive i belive :peek:, i will be taking to a local tyre repair shop about 2 miles from my house and they are very good and reasonably prices, but the car park is as tight as hell and i have never been in there with the superb before and the place is always mobbed and since i am a taxi driver i get a discount and get my tracking thrown in for free too :)

Park on road, take tyre to them to check.

If repairable, thh drive to them :-)

I know expensive three!

Hence I went for cheaper Falkens - good so far!

Discounts?

Wet other discounts does taxi drivers get?

Try Asda online - I looked at it a day or two ago - put the tyre size in, pick the tyre, put your post code in and book online - at a tyreshop convenient to you.

Darn auto-correct! LOL

Tried Asda before - had nothing i liked.

But their winter tyres seem cheap! :-)

In the end found a local tyre supplier cheaper and had the Falkens i wanted :-)))

Even CamSkill /BlackCircle couldnt beat them!

Tyre fixed yet?

Hi Denis

I suspect the reason you don't have a label on your spare wheel, and Chan does on his, is the fact that his is a space-saver, and yours is a full-size 205 / 55 x16. The speed limit imposed when using the spacesaver relates to its dimensions and pressure - they are quite different to your other wheels and the car therefore cannot be expected to handle in the same way as it would with all wheels and tyres the same.

In your case, It's the same size as your other wheels; the tyre will be a standard speed rating, and therefore you have no speed restriction. Never liked space-savers - had them in our Fords and my son's Fiat

Denis!

That means u can get urself a new alloy spare - that can match ur 4 wheels! :-)

that is really tempting! will look in to that as it will mean when i get a flat you won't need to take the spare off and put it in the boot, just the flat repaired and put it in the boot well, got the tyre fixed turned out to be a loose valve so the guy tightened it and swapped the tyres over and got it for free as well, so hopfully should be a while before the next one

Nice to hear its sorted mate!

Yep and found another seat cover for the backrest of the rear seats, its not the same colour as the base cover, but had someone today who was very wet from the heavy rain we had today and had to take the cover off and dry it and while doing so i came across another cover for the backrest and decided to stick it on, as last week i had a little boy who was sick, luckily it was on the base of the seat so just washed the cover but made me worried about the backrest getting stained so i have now covered all of the seats in the car and it will keep them dry and stain free, i always tell other taxi drivers, make sure you always have seat covers, on as it keeps them clean and saves them from wear and tear, especially the outer bolster on the drivers seat, even just cars used as runabouts seat covers should be used on every car i think and one of the other drivers i know had his octavia s spec 61 plate reupholstered with leather so that any stains could just be washed off, but nearly every car i have owned seat covers have been used on them

Still having trouble with the tyre, checked it this morning and it has lost 10 PSI, there is no visable dents or bukling in the alloy, i'l look at it in the morning and if it has lost anymore it will be back to garage tomorrow.

Hmmm ...did thy dunk the tyre in barrel of water to chk for leaks?

Maybe a teeny weeny leak somewhere?

yes they did, and bubbles came out the valve, so he tightened it and it seemed okay but it is still going down so i will go to the tyre shop tomorrow.

Got to be another leak somewhere when the tyre is on car

(With weight of car its squashing tyre to expose a hidden crack/hole somewhere)
