Warning about Audi S3 Jacking Pad on A5 Octavia

Featured Replies

Please be aware of this warning about your vehicle warranty if you fit the Audi S3 jacking pads. This is part of the response I received from Skoda UK,

Thank you for your email dated 10 June 2013 to ŠKODA Customer Care, regarding parts and warranty for your ŠKODA Octavia.

I have spoken to ŠKODA parts and they have confirmed that following parts numbers

8P0 802 845 LF jack pad x 1

8P0 802 846 RF jack pad x 1

8P0 802 847 plastic jack pad x 2

8N0 804 583 rubber buffer x 4

are for an Audi and if these where fitted to your ŠKODA Octavia it would affect the vehicle's warranty.

I suspect that they have the same view about the TT pads.

I think its more a case of blindly following the process: Part says Audi, not Skoda = Warranty Void.

Did you ask them for the Skoda equivalent part number?

Edit: I got similar warnings of doom when I got a starter motor for the Polo we had. It was the SEAT part number, the VW man said it absolutely would not work and terrible things would happen to the car if I fitted it. He gave me the VW part number. Checking both parts online gave exactly the same VALEO part number...

Any thing to get out of honouring any warranty claims I guess.

The warranty can only be voided on those components the jacking points affect.

I can't recall too many warranty claims on the Octavia's chassis so I reckon you'll be OK!

Thank you for the comments and they are all valid. However, looking at various forums for vehicles using the same floorpan shows that some have suffered distortion when using the S3 or TT jacking pads, but I have not seen anyone mention a warranty claim on this. The body has a 12 year corrosion warranty and the suggestion is that any claim would be affected by the jacking pads.

Skoda UK have further stated that the only autorised means of jacking is via a four point lift. How many owners have a four point lift? There is the potential for some disturbing implications to this.

Going by the book of skoda warranty, they can give you the same letter about warrantys for fitting after market alloys.

Irrespective of Skoda's response i wouldn't fit them based on the pics I've seen of cars that appear to have distorted floor pans after owners have fitted these pads. It's quite feasible that the s3 has additional strengthening to support these which the Octavia does not.

I'm guessing this doesn't include using the scissor jack supplied with the spare wheel?

I am on my second one :o good God it is not very strong is it? Bloody thing twists and flexes so much when lifting it's scary, mine fell off it and had the luckiest save of all time. Should have been serious damage as a wheel was off. Gutted to hear the S3 pad things can cause damage I was intending to get around to putting these on, perhaps not now, will just use the trolley jack instead, with an insert.

How did save the car mate?
