Question about Approved Used buying

Recommended Posts

I bought a 64 plate approved used Superb estate 17th Sep from Ridgeway Skoda in Berks, and had it delivered to me in Sunderland 290 miles away.

I really like it, but it's showing the service interval as 2500 miles past due. Surely a car this far past its service date should have been serviced as part of the multi-point inspection pre-sale?

Also, there is no service booklet in the glove compartment - do these still exist?!

Any experiences regarding the approved used service would be gratefully received!

Welcome to the forum.

Enjoy the car.

The 'Service Books' were discontinued, now VWG Official Dealers have it on the computer.

so ask a Skoda Dealer to print off the Service Record if there is no Folder of Invoices and Receipts.

OR JUST ASK SKODA UK TO GET A HANDLER/ Customer Service Manager to call you and Email the SErvice and Warranty record. 08457 745 745

?

Did you get a 'Workshop Condition & check report' with your car?

As to 'Skoda Approved used cars'.

They do the 'Work Shop Checks'  & you have a 12 month Used Car Warranty.

Many never service if the service is not due,  but then it was on your car,

So best call Skoda UK Customers Services and ask why a Skoda Franchised Dealer has allowed a car to go to a Buyer

if the Service Schedule / Guidelines were not followed possibly invalidating the Warranty by the terms SKODA impose.

Skoda UK can cover the cost of you getting the car correctly serviced and get it back from the Dealership,

unless the Dealership want to pay for you directly to get the Service done.

Ask the Dealership in writing, and raise a case with Skoda UK and forward both the communications.

Yes it should. Was it Reading or Newbury that sold you the car?

Thanks for the replies, blue, numskull and george. The dealer was Newbury.

I think the next course of action is writing to Skoda UK as the dealer has not been back in touch. Got to say - not impressed with the service from Skoda yet!

Love the car though, and this forum is a good resource.

The supplying dealer should have serviced the car in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations before delivering it to you.

This should be a simple one to sort. The supplying dealer will need to cover the costs for you having the car serviced locally, and offer some form of goodwill too I'd hope.

Don't bother writing or emailing, get on the phone to the supplying dealer and speak to someone direct. If this isn't possible then go straight to Skoda UK customer services...

Thanks silver. Have emailed Skoda UK customer services today as the dealer hasn't returned my calls.

Let's guess that the supplying dealer (when ever they do respond) will say that the car was indeed serviced but the indicator was not reset. Watch this space. Got to say my own Skoda service experience is not of the highest order. I think they're slipping.

There was a thread very similar to this a few weeks ago.

The new owner got all the way to Scotland only to discover the car needed a service. Luckily the supplying dealer paid for it to be carried out locally.

Still shoddy though.

Glad (sort of) to hear Im not the only one. Well, no response from anyone at the dealer yet, or indeed from Skoda. Very disappointing. Phone call to Skoda tomorrow I think.

When you first called or contacted via the contact part of the Skoda UK Website a Customer Services Manager should have been back in touch and you should have a Case Number and a Handler.

Skoda UK Customer Services saying they can not do anything with a 'Rogue Dealer' is not true in any way.

Their Official Dealership, and they allow the term 'Approved Used Skoda REtailer', 'Skoda Approved Used Cars',

and the Warranty covering the Used Cars.

A Warranty that requires the Service Schedule / Guidelines to be followed.

Eventually - after 8 days - got a response (standard) from Skoda. It didnt in any way answer my question, so I asked the customer service agent again. No response, so after two days asked for a service, and got an automated reply prmising a response within 48 hrs. Still hopeful.

Hi Kevin

Yes it is sorted finally. The supplying dealer eventually (after nearly three weeks) got in touch and asked if everything was OK. I think this was just a courtesy call, not prompted by my emails/calls, as he seemed surprised when I told him about the service interval indicator being so far overdue. At first he even said that it was impossible for the display to read what I was claiming it did! I took a photo of the display and emailed it to him and then they arranged for my nearest dealer - Newcastle - to service the car. The Newcastle dealer provided a courtesy car, and was very helpful. I still have no idea how a car so far past its service due date was allowed to go to a customer, or even if it was a fault. However, touch wood, the car has been excellent since day 1.

Would recommend the car, dealers less so, but at least they can be prodded into action!

That' really good news Mark.  Glad to hear a dealer doing their job and getting things fixed as problems do happen as we all know, but its how people act which is key.  Glad you're back on the road and all is well.  I have to admit as well i've only had my Superb a few months but couldn't be more happier too.  This forum is such a great resource.
