Sump plug ,socket or star key ?

VWD

Recommended Posts

As said- I'm about ( or rather SIL is, ) about to help me change the oil in Furby, or rather get under whilst I watch, as if I got down there. he'd need an engine crane to get me back up.

Till this one, I've always done this myself, but up till now, it's been easier to have it done. So question is- is sump plug nut type or star key, and ( if possible, off the top of one person who does their own) - the size, so I can get an adapter .

Somewhere, yes.

I remember having to crawl under the car and take a few pictures in order to identify the tool needed as nothing I had (Allen, torx, etc.) actually fitted properly.

With a bit of searching I've found this, which gives pictures.

A new sump plug should be used as you cannot remove the crushable washer seal from it. According to Haynes the new one should be tightened to 30 Nm (22 lbft).

Thanks, Jim. I've found that my motor factor keeps these as standard. However, you Might like to see this
