  1. My rear wiper has recently been groaning and giving up after a couple of sweeps but always seemed to come back to life later. I had seen a thread with photos of where the cover was removed and the gears etc greased but cant find it now. Mine was a bit dry but after an initial greasing and refit then a more thorough strip down and lube the motor was still labouring when the blade was in contact with the screen. I bit the bullet and removed the motor assembly and worm drive then removed the rear cap and lubricated both ends of the motor shaft, reassembled, bench tested with 12v direct to motor and its as good as new now. In hindsight the motor probably does not need to be removed, the shaft behind the worm drive can be lubricated from inside the gear case leaving just the motor end cap to be removed, unusually the brushes are at the output end so its safe to remove the end cover and nothing will go flying about, the bushing was dry and causing the seizing, another possibility is grease getting onto the circular tracks for the self park mecahnism creating resistance so its worth cleaning them up and the 2 contacts. The circuit board can be removed allowing direct access to the motor terminals for bench testing. Had I not wasted time on the first 2 removals & refits then the whole job would only have taken 20-30 minutes, definitely worth doing before shelling out £80 or so for a new or second hand motor.
  2. If you are reading this post do not despair! The horrible burning smell coming from your new diesel car is OK. When you stop and turn the engine off and the fan stays on and the engine seems to be super hot, the car is OK. The above are clear signs of an active DPF regeneration and is normal for your new diesel Skoda car. To comply with the latest emission levels diesels have to capture the large soot particles and burn them up into smaller particles which are kept in the DPF, this process is called regeneration. A lot of regenerations take place during normal driving where the exhaust is hot enough to burn the soot in the DPF and are unnoticed and are known as passive regeneration. When the temperature in the DPF is not hot enough for an passive regeneration, the ECU injects diesel into the DPF which burns up the soot and is known as an active regeneration. When you stop the car part way through an active regeneration, often the car smells like it's burning and the engine fan will stay on to cool the car. Mods could you please edit this thread (if needed) and make it a sticky or just delete, thanks
  3. Hello all! This is my very first post on here and also my first ever Skoda I have bagged an amazing 2011 Mk2 Fabia vRS which only had 1 previous owner (an old boy that only covered 36k miles!) Now I have a 1 year VW warranty so will be doing a stage 2 when this expires, in the meantime I will be addressing the... shall we say... interesting choice of wheel and roof colour? I will be wrapping the roof black and respraying the wheels gun metal. For my shopping list of stage 2 performance modifications, this is how far I have got (appreciate any input or advice): Induction kit - undecided on whether to go for Forge, ITG or go custom with a BMC CDA filter and link up the pipes to the cold feed myself. Exhaust - looking to do a custom system and have the muffler mounted in the middle of the diffuser (rather than the left). Have been provided with 3 options from Longlife, again not sure which option to go for (all 2.75" bore and utilising the existing mandrel bends): Cat-back system (£629) Downpipe, flexi & 200 cell sports cat (£599) Cat-back with no centre box (£529) Intercooler - bit stuck here, have seen the forge intercooler has been discontinued and the only other one I can find is the Airtec which is in the £400s! Remap - will be going to Avon Tuning for them to do a custom stage 2 remap (after the above mods are fitted) along with a DSG remap. They are bloody good at what they do! After all this I will look into finishing off the exterior looks: Lights - have found a few smoked LED taillights about for the Mk2, however struggling to find some decent LED headlights? Badges - going for the classic matt black badge look Front splitter - https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/233494941976 Side skirts - https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/233497916423 Front grill - any advice on something that looks a bit nicer?
