  1. I have a nearly 4 year old Scout with 50k miles. When going up hill at low revs (Its also DSG) I've noticed a grumble from the back end. I'm guessing Halex or diff issue, or possibly propshaft. I had the Haldex oil changed at 40k at the main dealer. I hope they didn't drain the diff and top up the Haldex which I hear can happen. If I take it back to them and this is the case I bet they won't tell me the truth. Anything I should check for leaks? What should I do next to get to the bottom of this one?
  2. No problems in mine, had a HID kit in an FL for 3 years absolutely perfect.
  3. Earlier in this thread I posted my Proteus wheels were not corroding, now at at 3 years and 8 months old my Proteus alloys have started to corrode, I knew it was just a matter of time as I'd read all the reports on here of the same. Shame at this time its now out of warranty, of course. I guess there would be no come back from a claim to Skoda uk. :-(
  4. The annoying thing about forums is the people that cloud the issue with comments that are unhelpful because they haven't read and understood the thread from the beginning. He isn't connecting the HID ballast to the BCM that's the whole point of the thread, he's connecting to the battery via a relay that will be triggered by the BCM. The supplied 'Canbus error fixers' that come with HID kits are capacitors not resistors. Not the same at all, they fool the BCM that the load is a normal filament bulb by having a similar high initial load which tails off to become flat like a filament bulb. That's completely different and will cause BCM damage in the medium to long term in many VAG cars with BCMs. This relay method may not work because the relay coil may cause a voltage spike on switching just like a HID ballast may do. A ballast may put A.C. ripple on the BCM output in addition. I think the safest solution to protect the BCM is a schottky diode in series and diode in parallel to kill any back emf spikes (reverse polarised). This should isolate the BCM. Most relays should be internally protected, but better to be safe than sorry. You'd still need to code for HIDs.
  5. I tried 3 different makes of micro SD adapters, minimise the risk and buy the right size card for the slot.
  6. My 2013 Bolero does not like micro to standard SD adapters at all, give random card errors. buy the correct size for the slot. A cheap Lexar 32GB from ebuyer has never given me any problems.
  7. I think in addition to a flyback diode I'd put another diode in series with the lights or relay, one of the schottky diodes would be a good choice due to low voltage drop across the diode. This will stop any spikes or A.C. ripple on the BCMs pins. My FL has been fine with HIDs for three years so I'm now not worried but I was thinking of doing this as an insurance policy, can't hurt probably don't need a relay if one of these was in series with the HIDs to protect the BCM. http://cpc.farnell.com/on-semiconductor/mbr1045g/diode-schottky-10a-45v/dp/SC07390
  8. My 2013 FL has also done 50k miles in 3 years with a coded in HID kit, lights always on auto with no problems, a big improvement to the car.
  9. I don't unfortunately. They were coded by Gizmo68 and I don't have VCDS. I'm not sure if Carista can tell that?
  10. My FL has had HIDs in for about 3 years now 4300k coded in from, 35w from Londoncolor on ebay. They have been perfect, there is no light scatter, perfect cut off and they pass the MOT fine. I leave the lights in 'auto' so they are on and off all the time, no problems at all, and a big improvement over the standard bulbs. There was a few reports of FL owners with fried BCMs a while back but it must come down to which type of BCM is in the car.
  11. Sorry to go back to the Ford but, Blackbart, (or anyone else) do you know the manufacturing dates of the Ford 1.0 ecoboost engines affected by the recall/failure? My elderly father has one and I'd like to check it for him, but its only a year old so maybe the cooling part which fails has been already upgraded. I've tried searching but couldn't find the answer?
  12. I bought a great set of Audi A4 alloys on ebay in excellent condition for £70. I used them for winter tyres, no need to spend £1000. Spend the saved £930 on a pinball machine, I have five!
  13. I had similar problems with a decent SanDisk class 10 32 GB. Changed it for a cheap Lexar 32GB class 6 and never had another problem.
  14. Thanks for this Cornish_lad, I'll give it a whirl. When you say '' In Carista, select headlights only '' Do you mean you select DRLs to headlights first, then after change to Fogs?
  15. Aparently you can try resetting the vent flaps by turning ign on to position 2 and pressing and holding the Econ and Recirc buttons at the same time. I've not done it myself.
  16. How easy was it to set fogs as DRL with Carista I'd like to do the same. Can you tell me which bluetooth device worked ?
  17. I've been looking at warranties myself recently. They don't get good reviews, when it comes to claiming they invariably wriggle out of paying. Especially 100k miles plus, reading the small print the car has to drastically fail and actually break down to get any chance of a pay out. I've decided to leave it. So many horror stories of great sales pitch, then when you actually claim useless. The pd engine is notoriously reliable, its the cabbies favourite after all! Second hand parts are plentiful, available.
  18. Thanks for the replies so far. I'm thinking of taking the skoda one now!
  19. I don't think I've got the energy to try to get them to put in writing all the parts they will cover. Reading the reviews they wriggle out of just about anything. I expect the warranty companies are all the same.
  20. Warranty Wise - anyone had a claim? I've been getting quotes for extending the warranty on my car. I've got DSG and Haldex so want to cover these for at least another year. I've had the Skoda quote and a Warranty Wise Quote. Warranty Wise have matched Skodas quote and on paper provide a much better comprehensive cover, including wear and tear. However I'm struggling to find a good review about Warranty Wise, all I can find is reviews stating 'they wriggled out of paying'. Have you any experience of a claim from this company? When you speak to them to take out a policy they are very convincing and really pile it on about how good their cover is, so what the experience here?
  21. If your battery is reading 2v and that's not a typo then its completely shot, it won't charge up if so.
  22. Heard nothing here since the second letter a few months ago.
  23. My old car had this problem, no matter what I used, the tank had algae growing in it. In the end I filled it up with water with a big slug of bleach mixed in. Then disconnected the hose at the jets and ran it through the system by holding the wiper stalk in, into a bucket. Leave the bleach in the washer tank for 30 mins. It didn't smell at all after that.
  24. He's just a troll, best completely ignored. Never writes any useful replies.
