  1. May I ask a question to 'Yety' please. I am about to replace my Haldex 4 pump as it is giving an 'open circuit' error code, but runs ok after tapping the pump. I understand what you are saying re. the wiring harness being tight and would like to do as you have and create a connector to make the job easier. Do you have the part number(s) for the plug and socket you used, and where you obtained them from please? Thanks in advance. Trevor M.
  2. I think wheel bearing noise would not be so dependent on throttle position; it sounds similar to diff. whines which used to be heard frequently in the 'old' days when there were many rear wheel drive cars around. If that is the case, it may be an expensive fix, and the previous advice to go back to the seller (if possible) looks sensible. Hope you find a solution. TrevorM
  3. Thanks for the replies so far. In response to '137699,' yes, I do wear the seatbelt, so that is not the problem, although the mute function you mention could be incorrectly activated I suppose. James, I do not think I would pay for a dash panel as it is something I can live with, although a sounder repair may be viable if that is the fault. Thanks again for the replies; any further suggestions also welcomed. Trevor M
  4. Hi all. I have recently noticed there is no audible 'tick' when my direction indicators are operating. I am not 100% sure they ever did, but as I have forgotten to cancel them a couple of times recently, I assume they once did, and this was a contributing factor in my failure to turn the indicators off (old age could be another factor!) I have been through the Maxidot menus and found nothing helpful (could have missed it,) and wondered if it is something which can be set using VCDS. If anyone out there has had a similar problem and found a resolution, I would be grateful if you could let me know; also, other suggested remedies would be welcome. Thanks in advance, Trevor M
  5. Hi; just thought I would update this thread with my experience of the 'fix' so far. Fix was applied to my 2013 TDI 170 4X4 yesterday by Simpsons Skoda of Great Yarmouth - goodie bag containing a pen, notebook and mini thermos included, plus an umbrella! Barely noticed any difference driving home, but if anything I thought the car may have been a bit 'smoother' when idling along in traffic with no throttle. I have seen on another thread (I think,) a graph showing power delivery arrives around 200 rpm higher in the rev range following the fix; I did not notice this, but will update this once I have had the caravan hitched up, when I would expect the effects of this to be more apparent. Just for information the Yeti has done around 30K miles and has been run almost entirely on Shell VPower with some BP ultimate, and only very few fills with standard diesel. Obviously there is some debate as to whether the extra expense is worth it, but my take is that the cost per fill up is small compared to the potential failures further down the line that may otherwise occur; of course it may not help at all (who is to know?) but it gives me some peace of mind. As I said, I will update later after further use and towing with the fix applied. Trevor M
  6. I believe it is quite common to remove the oil via the dipstick tube. Not sure how difficult the filter is without looking. Trevor M
  7. Glad you are pleased with your new Yeti. I also purchased mine from Simpsons at Great Yarmouth, who I found to be very helpful (perhaps they all are when emptying ones bank account!) I must have missed you at the Harbour cafe by about two days as I cycled there from near Bungay the day before yesterday; never mind, if I spot a new Jungle Green Yeti there on one of my regular visits I may have a word. All the best, and I hope you continue to be happy with the car. Mine is a 170 Elegance, coming up to three years old and 29,000 miles with no notable problems so far (touch wood, as they say!) 8. The OP's initial query seems to be mainly to do with his parent's concerns about how well the Yeti performs when towing close to the 85% guideline. I do not believe any Yetis are heavy enough to meet the 85% guideline when towing a 1,500 Kg caravan (my Elegance 4X4 170 has a kerbweight of 1,565Kg with driver if I remember correctly;) this gives a 96% match. Recommendations also state that for experienced 'towers' it should be acceptable to tow a caravan weighing up to the kerbweight of the towing vehicle. From the above it seems my Yeti would meet the guideline for a 1,500Kg caravan, provided the driver is experienced in towing, but would be questionable for beginners. I have no doubts it has sufficient power to do so. As for the towing ability generally, I tow a 1,150Kg (relatively lightweight) 'van,' with no problems whatsoever. The short rear overhang contributing to a very stable outfit, with fuel consumption between 30 and 35mpg when towing at around a leisurely 55mph where possible. Any faster than this has a seriously detrimental effect on consumption. Hope this is useful to the OP and his parents. Trevor M PS: Many of the responses seem to relate to towing 'normal' trailers, which is not really relevant to how well, or otherwise, the vehicle can handle a caravan.
  9. Hi. The symptoms described exactly match those I experienced with my Golf 1.9 TDI 130 a number of years ago at about 100,000 miles. My daughter has 'inherited' that car and it has now completed around 160,000 miles; the same clutch is still noisy at tick-over, but has not given any other problems at all. I would only be concerned if there is a history of catastrophic failures with these DMF units - I am not aware this is the case UNLESS YOU KNOW DIFFERENT! Hope this helps. Trevor.
  10. Two things: firstly, in response to the OP, I tow an 1150 MTPLM Elddis with a TDI 170 Elegance with no problems whatsoever. Average towing consumption is around 32 mpg driving sensibly, ie. cruising about 55mph. Secondly, Llanigraham's resonse suggests to me that he believes French motorway speed limits are higher than our own; I believe this is only the case where the Gross Train Weight the towing vehicle is capable of handling is less than 3,500Kg - not the case with most? Yetis I suspect. This is somewhat perverse, as it means a 'small' tow vehicle may be permitted to tow some trailers faster than would be the case for a larger vehicle towing the same trailer. There has been a considerable debate on this subject on the Practical Caravan website forum, and interpretations seem to vary, but last time I looked I believe the French authorities were said to have accepted they have made an error, and may re-address the issue. Edit: I am not sure if it is the maximum permissible weight of the towing vehicle plus the MTPLM of the trailer which counts, but the same situation could occur regarding a small vehicle being allowed to tow faster than a larger one. 11. Hi again. Thanks to all for reassuring me that in general (except perhaps Citroens) screen mounted sat-navs do appear to work with heated windscreens. I guess next time I will still check the sat-nav in the vehicle to confirm before ordering. Also, my reason for using this type of unit is that it can easily be transferred between vehicles rather than paying manufacturers' extortionate prices for these in each car. On the point of the braking effect and alternator load, isn't this the basis of VW/Audi Group's recuperation technology, where alternator output is increased under deceleration and braking (and reduced slightly during normal driving)? I think they claim something like a 2% decrease in fuel consumption as a result. As something can not be 'had' for nothing, this suggests there is indeed increased engine braking via the alternator belt to me. All the best. Trevor M
  12. Hi all; I can not, I am afraid, offer any useful information on the heated screen debate as I do not have one fitted. The reason I did not 'spec' one was that I use a screen mounted sat-nav and had heard the wires in the heated screen can prevent these from working. I wondered if anyone could please confirm from experience if this is true, or if it is an 'old wives tale' (or should that be 'old spouses tale' in these PC times)? Thanks in advance for any info, and apologies if this is seen as hi-jacking the thread. May I also take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy and prosperous new year. Regards, Trevor M
  13. Like several others, I was concerned there was not enough clearance to fit Milenco Aeros to my Yeti and therefore opted for the 'Suck It and See' variety. However, having used these only once towing from Suffolk to the New Forest area I decided these restricted vision from the normal mirrors too much. Also the nearside mirror seemed to be much too convex for my liking. I therefore tried a set of Aeros from a local accessory shop and found these to be satisfactory, although the fixing clearance is quite small. I opted for the flat variety for both sides, having previously used convex for the nearside and am very pleased with them. Hope this helps a little. Regards, Trevor M
  14. Went for Regency Green with ours and are really pleased with it. I guess it is just a matter of individual taste though. By the way it arrived stating it was Malachite Green - presumably different markets use different names for the colours. Oh no! The forum spellchecker has just red underlined 'colours' for me. I refuse to modify it though; can we have an English spellchecker please?
  15. Picked up the Yeti on Saturday 25th May, and did not receive free oil until I mentioned it to the salesman. I think he implied this was not normally provided now, but it was quickly produced when mentioned.
  16. Hi all; Trevor M signing in as a new Yeti owner as of yesterday. Elegance 170 CR 4x4 Regency Green With a few extras and towbar to be fitted next week. I first looked in on the forum in mid April before ordering, and would like to say I have found it extremely informative, not to mention entertaining in many cases - keep up the good work please people!
  17. Hi Marie, it can not be very nice seeing all the people on here taking delivery of their cars when yours has been on order so long. Is there any explanation why yours is taking longer than others? Anyway hopefully it will be worth the wait - you may appreciate it all the more when it does eventually arrive.
  18. Collected 170 Elegance today (see post #710 above.) Pleased so far, with 49.5 mpg shown for the 20 mile trip - extremely light right foot this time, and there may have been a tail wind - which is promising for the future when 'loosened up.' One thing which confused me was the 'Deadlock! Check user manual' message when turning off the key, but thanks to the forum search facility it seems I am not the only person to be 'thrown' by this. Anyway, the excellent forum has proven its worth already. Onwards to knock up a few more miles! Trevor M
  19. Hi all; I spoke to my dealer yesterday and confirmed the handover for the Elegance 170 will be Saturday 25th May - hooray!! Unfortunately the Witter detachable flange towbar was 'out of stock,' so this will need to be fitted at a later date.Never mind, towing is not recommended for the first 600 miles or so anyway. I think I did very well as my order was dated 20th April (although I was negotiating with the dealer for a while before that,) - will this be a 'World Record?' The dealer originally said he had managed to find a correctly specified car in the build queue which he could divert for me, so this would have reduced the timescales. Roll on Saturday! All the best, Trevor M.
  20. Hi all, I have just signed up to the site as I shall (hopefully) take delivery of my first Skoda next week (I have already taken the liberty of including its details in my signature.) I browsed the forum a bit to help make the decision to go for the Yeti, and found it really helpful. Guess most of my posts from now on will be in the Yeti area. Cheers, Trevor.
