  1. The clever windscreen clip that secures my Ma in Law's Blue Badge Pass almost did a similar trick by allowing it to slide down into the windscreen crevice when I let it slip on retrieving it - just caught the edge in time !
  2. I have the 1.5 TSi Karoq with DSG ( my 3rd Skoda with DSG albeit the 1st two were Octavia 1.6 diesels) and have done about 7000 miles since last August without a single hiccup during that time. I wouldn't have any other gearbox, and the combination of a petrol engine with DSG is, to my mind, perfect. I'm averaging 40mpg on every journey, even more on longer trips, which although less than the 50-55 I achieved with the diesel Octavia's, is still OK in my book as I'm appearing not to spend any more on my monthly fuel bills due to the price differentials !
  3. I have the "Edition" version with spare wheel & auto headlight assist - I do wish I'd specced the heated steering wheel though ! It's something I'd have never considered in the past, but I'm getting old (er) now and must be getting soft in my old age !!
  4. Had my 1.5 TSi Edition DSG for almost 9 months and 6k miles of excellent trouble free motoring - no regrets whatsoever !

    Wiper motor

Thanks for that - next time I'll definitely do it the way you suggest, I might even have a practice now !

    Wiper motor

My right hand windscreen wiper blade left a smear at top right & bottom left of the 'screen, & despite thorough cleaning with meths, white vinegar etc, it didn't improve. A call to my dealership (Mitchell's, Cheshire Oaks) & they offered to replace with new ones FOC. At the same time they replaced the 12v sockets fuse which I had blown ( a long story !), again FOC. What a refreshing change to get such great service ( my local dealers are cr*p !), & well worth the 130 mile round trip. As a footnote, just WHY is accessibility to the fuse box in the glove compartment so difficult ? I gave up trying fearing I would cause damage !
  7. I too have the 19" Craters & was a bit apprehensive regarding their comfort. However, a test drive convinced me that all was just fine, & now, almost 8 months into ownership, I have never altered that opinion. The wheels and the originally fitted Pirelli Cinturato P7's are proving a great all round combination, so no worries for me !
  8. It takes a little getting used to ( not as easy as some systems I've encountered), but well worth the effort to learn and from thereon, you'll use it as often as possible, flicking the switch on / off approaching bends (which saves braking) , increasing / decreasing your selected speed as needed, and importantly, keeping on the right side of PC Plod in areas he monitors !
  9. I've done both PCP (no charge for private plate registration) & PCH (where VWFS DO charge £50 ). The process is quick & straightforward, just a pain having to pay the £50 when on a PCH deal.
  10. I lusted after changing my 2nd Octavia for a Superb, whereas SWMBO'd wanted a "higher upper" (you'll gather she's not a petrol head !). I arranged back to back test drives of a Superb & Karoq, & surprised myself by wanting the "higher upper" too - the Karoq's merits outweighed the Superb's, and the "Edition" version I went for is brilliant in every respect. The icing on the cake was the PCH deal, and once the "18" plate novelty had worn off (!?!) I put my own cherished number plate on too, despite "Honest John" stating it "cannot be done on a PCH" ! No regrets at my choice whatever, the near 4 month wait was well worthwhile, & incidentally, I have never experienced any DSG problems during my 7 month tenure. My 3rd DSG 'box, & never a moments hesitation in any, Octavia's or Karoq.

    New KESSY Key

I ordered two "faraday" pouches whilst awaiting delivery of my Karoq - unfortunately, for whatever reason, they both at times failed. I could occasionally open / close the door whilst the key fob was inside, meaning they did not fulfil their function in stopping the signal from the fob. I scrapped them & bought the "Defender" pouches after seeing their recommendation in AutoExpress and they have been excellent. They have TWO inner sleeves, & it's vital to put the key fob in the right one ! The outer sleeve/pocket is for a mobile phone, but to avoid slipping the key in there by mistake (easily done !) I stapled that sleeve up. 6 months continual use of the Defender pouches and they're working perfectly, the only (slight) drawback being they are large pouches, too big to keep in a trouser pocket.
  12. Good luck - I hope you don't regret NOT buying my Quartz Grey & beige Octy 3 !!
  13. I had this on a number of occasions, particularly when the car had "sat" for a few days. By switching the ignition off & then back on again this seemed to fix it until the next time. In for service some time later, the Skoda guys found no fault, & to be fair, the orange light never appeared again. I personally suspected damp in the system, & when I traded it in last August ( after a hot dry summer ) all was fine still. I'm wondering if you bought my car, an Octavia Elegance, Quartz Grey Metallic, with a beige interior !?!

    TOMTOM SATNAV

I too prefer my TomTom to the built in satnav - maybe it's because I'm used to it, but I find the setting up much easier. My TT sits on a mat on the lidded compartment atop the dash, never moves during travelling & is easily viewed, but as they say, each to their own !

    Phone Battery Icon

Thanks for that ! In my next life I'm coming back as an IT wizard

    Phone Battery Icon

Eureka !! Thanks to you RichardPB, I now have the battery icon clearly displayed ! It begs two questions though ; 1) What is the rSAP (Business Mode) for, & is it any advantage to select it ?, and 2) How ARE non teccy people like me to know about these thing - is it buried somewhere in the manual ? Hope you can help again......

    Phone Battery Icon

Thanks for the brilliant, so helpful replies. I tried my old Mk 1 Apple iPhone, so old it runs on gas, and the battery icon WAS displayed. I then tried an earlier Samsung Galaxy, which also showed the icon, so even a completely non teccy guy like me deduced it was the new phone at fault and not the car ! So, I now know what "LTE" stands for, and once it stops snowing, I'll be going out to the Karoq & untick the Business Mode box, which I had seen but didn't know what it was for ! Once again, many thanks for the information, I just love this Forum !

    Phone Battery Icon

Yep, my Octavia's had the Amundsen which showed the green icon - the "Edition" has the Columbus set up, but surely should still show the battery state ? I still don't know what "LTE" stands for !!
  19. On my previous Octavia 3's, the mobile phone battery state was indicated on the dash by a battery icon. Although the manual shows this same icon for the Karoq Edition I have, the dash doesn't ! I do get the signal strength shown, with the letters "LTE" - what does that stand for ? My car came without the phone charging facility - I wonder if that's the reason for the icon not being shown. Incidentally, the Bluetooth connection is fine, & the phone itself works perfectly , but I do miss the battery icon !
  20. Believe me, I've been tempted !! I now use skoda1982's technique, a short hard tap to spring it open, the 3rd attempt seems to work !
  21. I've not had the water gathering problem, or freezing of the filler flap, but HAVE noticed the flap is reluctant to open on occasion, irrespective of the weather / temperature. I've tried copious amounts of WD40 at all the relevant points of contact / movement but with little improvement. I notice the small black plastic securing lug inside twists to lock - mine does but seems reluctant to do so at times. Any ideas for a solution ? I had a Mercedes 190e many years ago, which had an emergency fuel filler flap release for such occasions, a very simple but effective solution - I wish the Karoq had one !
  22. I have a much wider mirror fitted - it's the original "Cheetah" Speed Camera detecting one which indicates if a Gatso camera is "live" or not. It gives a great field of view, simply clips onto the existing mirror, & has a special coating to reduce glare. Once installed ( takes just a few seconds) it never needs adjusting & I never have to tilt it to avoid glare. I've now used it in my last 5 cars, swapping it over each time I've changed cars. I'm sure similar wide angle mirrors ( non detecting though) can be bought on Amazon for about £12. I wouldn't be without the wider mirror, really makes for safer rear view vision.
  23. And the Edition has them ! I must admit, I hardly ever use 'em, preferring the DSG to work its magic uninterrupted by me. My advice ? Save your money, the paddles really aren't necessary, because you can change gear manually anyway if you wish.
  24. I went from an Octy 3 with no CD player to a Karoq Edition WITH a CD slot ! Having changed to an SD card with the Octy, I'm now spoiled for choice - CD player, SD Card ( 32 GB), USB stick, Bluetooth music from my phone, and of course, the radio !! My 1st car, a '54 Ford Prefect, had a transistor radio wedged on the floor, which occasionally worked - how times have changed !
  25. Got to disagree with the view of auto dip - I have found it a boon, & as described in my earlier post, the one I have in the Karoq reacts so much quicker than the Octy version I had previously. I have never been flashed whilst driving the Karoq for my headlights being on main, which are so much brighter being LED's, whereas that did happen occasionally with the Octavia's. So, to the doubters on here, try 'em yourself - I wouldn't be without them.
