  1. I have just had a call from my dealer asking if I would book car in for fix. I said I was concerned changes might negatively affect the cars running characteristics. Their response was they have adjusted approx 200 vehicles and they have had no complaints from owners so far. They seemed very keen to get it booked in.
  2. Sounds like a good result :sun: if you don'd mind could you show the power graph as I would be interested to see what the std and re mapped plots look like. I have had a car re mapped in the past and was pleased with the result and am now looking at having the superb done. Thanks.
  3. The plan is to lull the EU into a false sense of security by appearing total disorganised and then the coup de grâce, a plan so cunning even Baldrick could not think of it. :sun:
  4. I remember out dragging one of those up a long hill somewhere between Stratford on Avon and Oxford in my 5 GT turbo I think a Citroen ZX 1.9d has given me the biggest surprise, a friend had one new and we used it to go down to the south coast for a weekend. Nice ride and no rattles good visibility and decent seats. By 70 mph it felt done but if you could gain some speed down hill it would get a second wind and happily maintain that speed up the next gradient.
  5. Yes, I had one about a week ago from DVSA. I filed it with the first one, my car is now out of warranty and I will probably switch to a local independent garage, I have used for years, for the superbs next service and MOT. I am waiting to see how all this pans out before having any work done.
  6. Just a quick reminder, the program about Guy's attempt on a land speed record is on Channel 4 Sun 09 Oct, 8 pm, World's Fastest Motorbike.
  7. I think it goes to show that bodies like OECD, IMF, Ect base forecasts on previous experience just like the met office and when you have a situation which is unlike anything previously seen then the error range on estimates become so wide as to make them pointless. As such these bodies should have provided predictions with a big 'but' when summing up. We appear to have gone from instant death after the vote to 'sentiment data is looking bad' so although the pound has stabilised and stock markets are moving up it will go pear shaped shortly. To this new hard data is better than expected but its early days and we are lucky to have got away with it for the first three months. In the meantime predictions of future trouble are based on a poor negotiation outcome that the EU cannot afford to let happen. So all to play for but what price snowballs now...
  8. You have to worry about bodies like OECD when they were so wide of the mark with their last predictions. ? From OECD on 1 June. The British economy would suffer 'a large negative shock' if voters back Brexit in June's referendum, the OECD said in a grim verdict on Britain's economic future outside the EU published in its latest global economic outlook. Brexit would cost each worker in the UK £3,200 a year by 2030 and send economic shockwaves across the world, an alarming report by a leading international institution warned today. Under a more pessimistic scenario, the cost of leaving would be even higher - rising to the equivalent of £5,000 per household, according to the organisation. The Paris-based organisation also said Britain quitting the EU would spark turmoil in world stock markets. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3619369/Brexit-send-economic-shockwaves-global-economy-substantially-warns-OECD.html
  9. The team seem to think they can continue so hopeful they will get another shot at the record? Guy looks to be unscathed and ready for another go.
  10. Interesting to see that phone use is now officially seen as more dangerous than a typical speeding offence, if not on a par with drink driving. Yet there is still more money and time spent on men and equipment trying to catch speeding motorists. Seems as though a re prioritising of assets is now needed ? What I find hard to understand is why try and use fines to stop phone use when a signal jammer fitted to all new cars would sort the problem, over several years, without the need to fill courts with errant motorists or trying to catch drivers using phones.
  11. I think the question is will we need to independently negotiate controls on free movement or will brexit and other forces in the EU bring this to the table without the UK having to shoulder the burden alone. With French/German elections on the horizon, and pressure from within these country's to adopt changes, It has to be a question of when not if some type of migrant controls are given to EU participants. As the UK is still part of the EU I would assume we will also get a say in these negotiations, it may be that these start before the UK triggers article 50 ?
  12. It’s an unabashed celebration of flat-out wheel-to-wheel racing, around the sweeps and curves of this classic circuit, which remains unchanged since its heyday. Live stream
  13. The new UK trade figures look better - UK trade deficit, which reflects the difference between imports and exports, shrank to £4.5bn in July from £5.6bn the previous month. The ONS points out in its release that the general consensus among economic commentators is that the recent depreciation in the pound should boost export and manufacturing competitiveness. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-37315866
  14. Yes, I agree with your point on BBC bias. I caught the BBC news earlier discussing the Carney comments to MP's. The presenter finished the piece by trying to liken the current UK economic position to the $/£ exchange rate. Complete and utter tosh.
  15. When is a negotiation not a negotiation ? There is no desire by UK gov, or other countries, to cause even more political problems as the UK exits the EU so appropriate language will be used so as not to inflame things unnecessarily. The UK is obviously forbidden from holding 'proper' talks until it is outside the EU. So the EU will be told that these talks are just informal and we are still towing the line. On the day of Brexit I would though expect that there will be trade documents that just need signing and they will be announced, in various choreographed events, at the same time. :sun:
  16. Behind the scenes: Guy Martin meets the Triumph Rocket streamliner
  17. Article says he could come back after two years ? I don't think there's realistically much chance of that. I watched the Button /Walker interview and it had a 'this is the end' feeling about it. We will now get to see what Vandoorne can do :sun:
  18. My seats can also move back to help access when I unlock the car :sun: Will have to see if mine is an AMB, not heard of one of those before.
  19. It sounds like the same spec as mine :sun: an se+ My estate has a fire extinguisher as well.
  20. Not surprised but he will be remembered as one of the better F1 drivers. I don't think he ever got over his accident completely, there were times before that he could go toe to toe with Schumacher.
  21. A quick update, looks like things are going to plan. Guy Martin sets new Triumph speed record Guy Martin has piloted the Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner to a new record during practice for the team's world land speed record attempt in late August, by becoming the world’s fastest ever Triumph – achieving a speed of 274.2 mph. The five-day test is now complete, with the record attempt scheduled to take place in the last week of August, when the team will return to the Bonneville Salt Flats with 400 mph on their minds. http://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/2016/august/guy-martin-triumph-speed-record-bonneville/
  22. Britain’s farmers could benefit from weaker pound after Brexit vote "The exchange rate between the pound and the euro is absolutely vital. It is the single biggest determinant of the profitability of British farming," says Anand Dossa, economist at the National Farmers Union. CAP payments are set in euros, so what British farmers get depends on the exchange rate; last year they got the worst rate in eight years. Since the EU referendum the pound has fallen to 30-year lows against the dollar and has weakened significantly against the euro. This means there could be a 15% increase in farmers' EU subsidies once they're converted into sterling - about an extra £500m. However, the weaker pound can make fuel, fertiliser and food for animals more expensive, but there is some evidence that in some areas it has already given a boost to UK produce, both at home and abroad. Foreign-sourced food has now risen in price compared to home-grown produce, and UK farmers have gained a competitive edge when selling overseas. Head of business research at The Andersons Centre "So that just allows our prices internally to rise. But if you're exporting wheat to Spain, for example, our grain looks cheaper. It is noticeable out there already.
  23. I am no expert but it sounds to me like a change to the pilot injection settings ? this can affect engine noise/clatter. I ran a mk1.5 focus 1.8 tdci which had one of the first CR engines to use pilot injection and it was almost petrol like for smooth running. unfortunately the need to comply with Euro 5 rules meant the unit was modded for the mk2> focus ( I have one) and although the emissions were reduced the engine was not as nice in use.
  24. I would be more impressed if the update took engine specs to 150 bhp from the 140 I have at the minute :sun: This - "we are using advances in diesel combustion technology which were not available at the time your vehicle was manufactured" sounds like a load of wotsit to me. Pure techno babel to persuade people VW have pulled off an engineering miracle. They could have just said we turned off all the cheating/dodgy stuff but it does not sound as good.
  25. They were not the only ones, the dad of a school friend was a chauffeur for GKN in the 60's/70's. He would shuttle top brass to and from Heathrow, from Birmingham. His boast was he could do the 110 ish mile run in an hour door to door. Which was an average speed of around 120 mph.
