  1. I find not having 'old style coverage' makes it difficult knowing what's going on. I noticed there was a change a few years ago, before the bbc bailed out of their full live coverage deal ? To start with I put it down to the TV director having a bad day but as more races were shown it became obvious there was a new method to the madness ? which I assumed was spreading air time more equally across the whole field. The only way to see how the front runners are doing now, relative to each other, is watch the timings on the screen. With cricket coverage the TV cameras do not spend all the time watching random fielders. Football matches do not show half an hour of the linesman walking up and down. But as far as I am concerned this is what's going on with F1. :sun:
  2. The full extent of Mercedes' television blackout in Sunday’s Japanese Grand Prix can be laid bare, with at least five times less coverage than in similar races, but Bernie Ecclestone has denied it was a deliberate act of revenge. Ecclestone’s FOM (Formula One Management), which controls the international television feed, showed very few shots of race-winner Lewis Hamilton and his team-mate Nico Rosberg in Suzuka, even critical pit stops. It prompted suspicions that the 84-year-old had ordered the cutback in retaliation for Mercedes' failure to supply engines to Red Bull for next season. Niki Lauda, the Mercedes chairman, met Ecclestone in his Kensington offices on Tuesday morning and said F1’s supremo had admitted going “over the top”. But Ecclestone denied any “manipulation”. Broadcasters were also angry with the skewed coverage and are likely to raise their concerns with Ecclestone. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/motorsport/formulaone/mercedes/11900119/Revealed-Mercedes-on-TV-for-just-six-minutes-in-Japan-but-Bernie-Ecclestone-denies-blackout-claim.html
  3. Yes but when the USA does this it is just a b***s up, the Russians will do this intentionally.
  4. Putin is a cleaver guy. Plan A ?, turn up in Syria, create havoc and then negotiate the lifting of sanctions if he redeploys troops back to Russia. He then keeps part of Ukraine without further penalty..... :sun: OK I have probably been reading too much Follett.
  5. I don't really see you have any option but to replace the oil pump, you were told the engine is OK otherwise, so not throwing good money after bad. So this should sort the problem ? Good luck with the outcome.
  6. Not off the top of my head, it will be lower when it's warm than when cold. Pity they don't fit oil pressure gauges, I think the last car I had with one was a 309 gti in the 80's. With regard to the turbo, if it is the original, it could well have been tired at 120k. So a refurb is not necessarily a waste of money if you intend to keep the car even if it had not been damaged by this problem.
  7. This is just another Putin smoke screen to distract Russians from the domestic mess he is presiding over, the bigger the mess the bigger the smoke screen has to be. What with assassinating opposition leaders and shooting down commercial airliners the bloke is on a roll.
  8. How many miles has the car done ? Did you check the oil level when the light came on ? I would not expect damage from driving half a mile with the oil light on. The oil pressure sensor check would be a good next move I think .
  9. Looks like the obvious/marked camera sites and vehicles are no longer cost elective enough. Unfortunately for this ploy it would not work for me as I would assume the tractor driver was blind and about to pull out, so I would be on the brakes even if moving below speed limit. :sun:
  10. A deeper sidewall will allow the car to roll a little more and be a bit more compliant over bumps and pot holes. You may need to check clearances on full lock just to make sure there is no fouling of the wheel-arch area. Although I would think there is enough space in the Superb's arches not to cause a problem ? I have also thought about doing this at the next tyre change so would be interested in the results :sun:
  11. Oops, didn't realise I had walked into a climate change thread :sun: It is an interesting subject, I have no problem accepting there has been a global temp increase associated with CO2, the thing is are we better or worse off than letting the climate do it's own thing ? Were we not heading previously for another ice age, apparently the Dinosaurs lived with CO2 levels about five times higher than today and they would likely still have been here if not for a meteor impact. So I don't need to be convinced of global warming but what the long term affects will have on the planet, compared to a cool down, over say the next 5000/10,000 yrs.
  12. I wonder how many complaints they have received and how many they would get in a typical year, why decide to do something now. To the casual observer it looks as though there has been war declared in Scotland on any type of movement other than walking. Reduced drink drive limit, no tolerance on speeding and now this. Expect to see 'complaints' about granny's on mobility scooters next and a crack down by police using the full weight of the law. :sun:
  13. I think I would have abandoned the camera and run for the hills, I wonder how high the recording team were above the bay ?
  14. I can see him drawing back the old labour voters, would think he'd get a good response from those ex labour who recently voted snp ? if he lasts the next twelve months ?
  15. I must have missed that, did think it was odd they had got away with it. Seems as though it's Ferrari engines or nothing for red bull next year ?
  16. To be fair, as both Merc's started with non valid tyre pressures, Rosberg would have to be penalised as well as Lewis. If they strip Lewis of win will they ban Rosberg from next race ?
  17. Williams had completely different types of tyre on recently and were not penalised.
  18. I am thinking Merc knew about investigation before end of race and tried to get Lewis as far up the road as possible, It would help if time penalty given now.
  19. Not surprisingly other teams are pushing for a disqualification. Lewis had one tyre 0.3 psi under required pressure.
  20. Would explain Merc wanting Lewis to push at the end, if they expect a time penalty.
  21. All to play for :sun: If one of the Ferrari's get a good start it could be a close race. Will Lewis's new engine last the distance ? I only have bbc so might be looking for a better option tomorrow to watch race live.
  22. No chance of rain tomorrow and probably only one tyre stop. Ferrari were competitive in qualifying so it's down to the start and then their race pace. Lewis usefully quicker than Rosberg.
  23. I think the idea is to stop filling land fill sites with plastic bags ? I did use any free shopping bags as rubbish bags to save buying peddle bin liners Ect but now I do use special bin bags and the land fill sites are still getting the same number of plastic bags form me. :peek: Can't see the difference myself ?
  24. Yes, Alonso would have to give up on F1 and find something else, go and play with Webber ?
