Someone will soon come along and tell you to not to even think about a hid kit on a fl. Or I think that's the general consensus, anyway.

Spotify, Netflix etc on aftermarket h/u
Fr0d replied to Nellybobs's topic in Audio, Electronics and Security
I'd thought most Chinese android 4.4.4 and above units would meet your criteria. I don't run either app but I've no issues listening to DAB+ audio (via my usb dongle) whilst simultaneously using the satnav. If you care to take a look on XDA Developers website, they have everything you need to know about these Chinese MTCB/C/D units. -
Do you want to go the genuine or aftermarket route?

As said, how often do you see anyone crawling under their car nowadays to do routine maintenance? Most would rather pay someone else and hence learn nothing about the workings of their car. -
Good Job Skoda didn't make the Octavia 1cm shorter.

Agreed. They are great cars for the dad/handyman. I've had just about half of wickes/b&q and toys'r'us combined in the boot at some stage or another! -

Noise from boot driving me insane
Fr0d replied to zeffania's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I don't mean unscrew them all the way out. Rotate them a fraction of a turn, then go for a test drive. Repeat until the knocking has ceased. Unscrew them too much and they will either drop out, or you will have opening/closing issues with the tailgate. It's all trial and error. All this is providing the noise is emanating from the tailgate, though! -

If it's not been mentioned already, my money is on the tailgate stops needing adjustment. Open the boot and you will see two black rubber stops at either end of the tailgate. Unscrew them half a turn and see if that has any positive effect. -
Annoying rattle coming from above glove box?!

Essential Maintenance on 2nd Hand 2,0 vrs?

Add 4 wheel alignment, primarily to mitigate premature/uneven tyre wear. Somewhere reputable too, which is easier said than done. -
Yes, new lower arms and camber bolts will be required. On top of 4 wheel alignment by someone WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING with a Hunter wheel alignment machine. Please don't confuse my above capitalisation for shouting, I merely can't state enough how important it is to find someone who fully understands/can be bothered to use the machine correctly. In my experience, most don't, or don't bother to keep their setups up to date or calibrated. Best of luck. C

I've had both. Unless they are much cheaper, I can't see any reason why you would want to go with the older tyre.
-
Hmm, I'll get the geo checked elsewhere, then. I don't want to lunch another pair of premium tyres. Cheers.
-
The arms and camber bolts are brand new, as the old ones were seized. I don't quite understand the term "stepping tyres"? What do you mean?
-
On the subject of 4 wheel alignment, is there/can you buy a pair of rear +ve camber shims for the Mk2 vRS? This was a doddle to rectify on my previous rear twist beam car - simply remove the stub axle and bolt in the shim. Yes, I'm aware it's not a fixed beam setup, but after having my alignment done, I've been told the minimum camber my particular vehicle can be set to is about -1.5 degrees - far too much for my liking. It was initially a whopping -2.5 degrees, hence a nicely ruined pair of rear tyres! In my opinion, a pair of +0.25 to +0.50 degree shims would bring the rear to more sensible day-to-day settings, but I don't see any sold in the usual places, and nothing from the Mk5 Golf stable, either. Any suggestions?

in my experience, the car's fuel consumption computer will need recalibration when a dtuk box is fitted. Otherwise, overly optimist figures will be recorded. Somewhere in the region of 12% or so, if memory serves. No such discrepancies with my subsequent Shark remap.

Down to personal taste, I would have thought. I got mine resprayed at a reputable bodyshop. Looks great. -
For me, a high revving V10 beats everything. No voting option, though! I can't bring myself to vote for "mulicylinder complex sounds" as you put it, as I don't like V6's. Second choice would have gone to V8s, but you've included V12's, which to me hold no appeal... Also, i hate the din of Ferrari-esque flatplane V8's. It's crossplane muscle-car V8's for me, only.

Yep, fives have infinitely more character than four pots (I've had two, in both Audi and FIAT guises). Just a shame the fuel economy didn't quite match up to them.

I'm up for this, depending on the venue and date.

Anyone know anything, Fixed price Clutch Change
Fr0d replied to andybristol's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I'm sorry but I've no idea why anyone would want to take an out of warranty car back to the main dealers for any work? I use a trusted VAG independent (run by ex-VAG staff), who charge a fraction of the cost. The last straw, as far as main dealers are concerned, was when after completing a routine (and expensive) fix a good while ago, their "free health check" failed to reveal two of my tyres worn down to the carcasses, along the inner edge. The printout told me they were fine! I won't be coming here again, I said to myself.
