''Glitters'' inside my coolant expansion tank
D.FYLAKTOS replied to D.FYLAKTOS's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda FormanI t was a difficult task, one hand holding the plastic tank and the other hand the Dremel, small pieces like filings everywhere even towards my face. This is the lower part, from there the hose goes to the radiator. I said the mechanic to remove the old coolant, fill it with water, rinse, fill it again rinse and then add distilled water and new antifreeze. No glitters or sludge was found in hoses, i personally check it even the coolant sensors was clean, no residues at all. According to the theory that when something boils the bubbles-lathe goes to the top and stays in the side of the utensil? Examples: https://www.argiro.gr/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/kameno-gala.jpg https://www.newsitamea.gr/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/med_gallery_447_8_96432.jpg The new coolant has about 450 Km on it, many times checked at night with flash light in purpose to the any glitters ''shining", nothing yet. The sides of the expansion tank are 95% ,only a small mark on one side but nothing serious. Except waiting and if necessary changing again the whole coolant and install a new expansion tank i don't know what else can i do. 🙄 No radiator cap on Skoda, there is only one on the expansion tank and the old and the new were clear. No residues (muck or glitters) on them at all.

Ignition problems: disappearing spark on throttle blip or flooring
D.FYLAKTOS replied to SaltySkoda's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda FormanIn the past (no internet, no forum, no pdf manual) we had major problem, only some old mechanics which knew Favorit wanted to work in a Felicia and we didn't knew anything except what the magazines wrote-stories by other drivers. Now he have Haynes, service manual, forum to ask for help there is a lot of knowledge from the owner. Fancy, famous repair shops (even young ECU programmers) don't want to work with it because they don't want to get their hands dirty and will have no big profit, they prefer newer models with ''come-i install-you pay a lot-go'' procedure.

''Glitters'' inside my coolant expansion tank
D.FYLAKTOS replied to D.FYLAKTOS's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda FormanI have removed that expansion tank and i decide to cut it through to see how was inside and the result was shocking ! The most disgusting water expansion tank view that i have ever seen.

Ignition problems: disappearing spark on throttle blip or flooring
D.FYLAKTOS replied to SaltySkoda's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda FormanSame here in Greece but with he (Local) young ones, they have that ''wise guy'' attitude with OBD scanner-laptop in their hands, a robe like doctors and disagree with everything you say to them. In case they don't know they reject you ''it's an old car, i don't have the programme for this car, no bulletin, my supplier does not have original parts for this, not worth the cost" and other excuses. Thankfully we have some old mechanics and some non Locals (young, non-Greeks) with smaller not fancy repairs shops which accept to work with an old car. By the way have you ever take measures for fuel consumption in City-Highway?

Ignition problems: disappearing spark on throttle blip or flooring
D.FYLAKTOS replied to SaltySkoda's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda FormanFew years back i bought a new radiator fan, i learn by the hard way that the cables on the plug were posisioned wrong and the 2 scales of fan speed were in reverse. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/485671-bosch-radiator-fan-for-felicia-help-wanted/?do=findComment&comment=5454358 No one made a test before they put it in a box for distribution to the parts shop (so also to customer).

Engine cover, do we really need it?
D.FYLAKTOS replied to D.FYLAKTOS's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda FormanJust before installation. Finally i have access to the throttle cable any time. I have already done 30 Km in City Traffic, the rest of the test will be in Highway to see the Fuel Consumption difference.

Engine cover, do we really need it?
D.FYLAKTOS replied to D.FYLAKTOS's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda FormanCount the rpm drop in gear change, make the change in 5000 rpm and make the same change again in 6000 rpm, then see where you are in the 1st change and where at the 2nd. The top performane for my car is above 5100 rpm.

D.FYLAKTOS replied to SaltySkoda's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda FormanVelocity Stacks with foram filter, very interesting but i am sure @Thefeliciahacker will disagree with them. Here in GR we call them 4 throttles mainly for ''street racers".

Engine cover, do we really need it?
D.FYLAKTOS replied to D.FYLAKTOS's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda FormanI never liked the engine cover, always causing me troubles so now it's time to modify it. I also made a repair on a crack. Next step is put back the two parts on engine and a 100Km road test in different conditions.

Let's wait for your new insurance contract for FIVA Felicia and it's terms.

Why, how much you think will get from Allianz is someone broke your mirror? Keep in mind that there is no original part anymore so only an aftermarket can be accepted from the insurance.

Engine cover, do we really need it?
D.FYLAKTOS replied to D.FYLAKTOS's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda FormanI had the cone removed for about 15 years, thus i could reach the 6100 rpm (5500 is the red zone) very easy with 2rd-3rd gear in Mountain Roads. You couldn't and still you can't.

So if someone scratches heavily your door at night you wont get nothing from the insurance because the cost for a Felicia door (painting job) is about 180-200€ and that is beyond the exemption limit.

Engine cover, do we really need it?
D.FYLAKTOS replied to D.FYLAKTOS's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda FormanExcept all these notches (B) i will make smoother the left side (A), thus i believe more air will come inside smoother without turbulence. The same with the left side. I have finished the Dremel work and almsot finished with the sandpapers, then painting, cleaning and what's next? The cover, i will cut a part of it.

Engine cover, do we really need it?
D.FYLAKTOS replied to D.FYLAKTOS's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda FormanThose notches would be present no matter the filter brand, are restrictions to the air flow and i have removed them via Dremel bit and sandpaper (photos tomorrow). After the refinishing work, cleaning, painting, install to the car and 100km test in variable conditions to measure the results.

Felicia Combi 1.3 - what oil?
Update: Since this disastrous, crappy, useless oil removed and since the Felicia isn't a vehicle like this to use 20W-50 i return to the 10W-40 Synthtetic, ENEOS now. I have it only for 1500 Km, mainly hard City Traffic plus 2 trips with Mountain Roads and Highway and of course the results are FAR more better that the previous miserable oil but i haven't tested it yes in hard summer conditions with high temperatures that we have here. The Fuel Consumption is FAR better compared to the 15W-50 (although the Synthetic 5W-40 beat it a little bit in City Traffic) so things are Ideal? Not so, i have faced something in Winter (had to do with the smoke from the exhaust) and i will explain it to you in the next post.

Engine cover, do we really need it?
D.FYLAKTOS replied to D.FYLAKTOS's topic in Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda FormanI start searching for "Bell Mouth" and "Velocity Stacks", i have found these: My thought was to install a tube like this to make more air come inside the tube to the throttle like this https://www.briskoda.net/forums/uploads/monthly_2024_05/ScreenShot_20240507205715.thumb.png.421728bb6f43890beaaeca5a7e30a265.png but first of all i had to work inside that cylinder, to remove any notches and make it smoother.
