  1. I think you are very observant and very polite. I own another German engineered product, an Eriba caravan produced by parent group Hymer. They are also living on past reputation turning out poor quality caravans at a high purchase cost. Colin
  2. I would imagine owners are avoiding doing so whilst these new cars are still under warranty. Colin
  3. That's just reminded me. You will not reduce the general spray much as it's the turbulence created by the back end of the car. One year driving back through northern France the rain was "heavy" and the spray so bad I lost site of the caravan attached to the car. Colin
  4. I have front and rear flaps fitted, the standard Skoda small ones. In 4 years of towing, probably in excess of 10K miles, I have not had any stone damage to front of my caravan. Colin
  5. Despite my moans in open forums and private conversations the VAG group to me offers the best choice of vehicles. As much as I like diesels I would kill the dpf around town and so have to go petrol. The 1.0 does not meet my needs and the 2.0 would be overkill. I'm not into speed or high insurance and running costs. Therefore it is the 1.5tsi and hopefully the correct software for it to pull away smoothly. Colin
  6. I did say about £2K less as a result of £4K discount and pcp deal. The spec is as follows:- A3 Sportback Sport - 35tsi 6 speed manual - 150bhp petrol Monsoon Grey Metallic, Black twin leather, factory towbar, aluminium roof rails, heated front seats, parking system plus, front and rear flaps, boot liner. List £27,600, actual price £23,100 Colin
  7. Just had an update from the dealer and it stands out a mile where VAG has Skoda in the pecking order for the supply of 1.5tsi engines. I placed order on 24th Nov for the Audi and have been given a confirmed build week 3, week commencing 14th Jan with delivery for new reg in March. When I approached my local Skoda dealer before placing the Audi order he shrugged his shoulders on when a built to order 1.5tsi Karoq would be available. Colin
  8. EA189 fix - You might be able to tell quite easily. Mine has a sticker in the boot attached to the polystyrene packing around the spare wheel. Colin
  9. Not as bad as the stunts VW tried on me. First referred to stating front brake pads needed replacing. With about 7mm on them they went on for another 50K. Second was even worse. One of the engine bay fans would not turn off as the control unit had gone. They tried to tell me I needed two fan kits at £700 each. I said no, check with parts department I need I fan kit comprising two fans. I never went back there for a service. Colin
  10. I've usually managed to use the other car, a petrol VW Up for short runs. The Skoda diesel is used if the engine has a chance to get warm. Having said that I used to commute 5 miles each way to work which was not long enough to get warm in the winter. Regens have successfully gone on in the background, the fans running on once I've stopped. I believe my light on was not a result of the fix but as you say possibly a few to many short runs. Colin
  11. I had the fix done on my Yeti. It has know done only 35,500 miles [8K per year] and the dpf light came on for the first time a few weeks ago. I went for a run and before I hade driven 5 miles it was out. Colin
  12. I've been looking around at a replacement for my 2014 Yeti, that this time around will be a petrol. I had thought of a Karoq as I had seen one in the flesh a while ago and was initially impressed, so I have searched the car broker websites and been into my local dealer. What a shock. The Yeti has character and as nice as the Karoq is it is lacking in this area so I looked further afield. I can go a little smaller so long as I can still tow my 1200kg caravan so looked at Golf and Audi A3. To get to the point, I can get a factory built A3 Sportback with a similar or higher spec with same engine than the Karoq for about £2K less and have it through 6/10 weeks sooner. The inside is smaller but the interior is a very nice place to sit in. This means a £4K discount if PCP deal is taken out. What am I missing? Colin
  13. The attached should help. Colin FL yeti 2014_June brochure.pdf
  14. It does look like a factory job to me. Whilst the edges may be "frayed" the cut-out is true and straight, the angled corners at right angles. I don't like it though, but I am a bit ocd. Colin
  15. My apologies Offski I was not very clear. It was oil temp as I had scrolled through the Maxidot to oil temp and was hoping something would happen once I got past 90c which in summer takes about 3 miles but in winter is usually double that. I was holding the gears longer to keep the revs up and raise running temperature. I kept out of fifth gear and for the 2nd and 3rd mile was doing about 55/60 in 4th. Colin
  16. Update? 14 1/2 months later I have had the dpf filter warning light come on for the first time at about 35K. I went to go out for a run as directed but it went off before I was even 3 miles down the road and engine temp was only at 80c. I went for the run anyway. Is this the start of the end? Is it a good excuse to persuade my lovely other half that a new car is needed. I'm already selling the winter wheels, so I could try my luck. Colin
  17. Marc, I have owned my 110bhp 2.0L Yeti for four years know. I have a couple of times thought about a remap to 140bhp, but never got around to it, as it does a decent job. I can get 60mpg plus on a run if I keep the speed down, or low to mid 50's if pushing it at the legal limit. The only time I would really benefit from more oomph, torque, is occasionally when towing. Having said that it will pull my 1200kg Eriba caravan happily at 60mph fully laden, only slowing down on very long steep inclines as found when driving through France. I don't think you will need the 140bhp, but you would like it. Colin
  18. Partly, but the warranty will only be 2yrs as a dealer fit and not 3yrs as a factory fit/original equipment. Colin
  19. Rick, to clarify above. Skoda and many other manufacturers say first change should be at 3yrs with subsequent changes at 2yrs. The change is required because the fluid absorbs water. The difference between first and subsequent changes is due to the time the fluid may have been "on the shelf" and absorbing water. When the vehicle is new the manufacturer is using fresh fluid and as such expects it to last longer than something that may have been standing at a motor factors for some time. In times gone by you may have tested the specific gravity of your fluid with a hydrometer, but now with abs etc I am lead to believe we need to be more stringent. Colin
  20. I recently had some very early signs of zinc inclusions done under paint warranty. Take the car to any Skoda dealer and they should have it inspected by an approved paint shop. they will take photos and paint thickness measurements before producing a report that gets forwarded to Skoda. Out of interest I believe "Sale of Goods Act" and "Fitness for Purpose" has no time limitation, although 7 years is often stated as a guide. This outweighs any warranty/guarantee that has been specified/given. Colin
  21. This happened on two successive yearly main dealer services on my 2014 Yeti. On each occasion after about 30 days the warning came up. I returned it and on the first occasion the problem came back a month later. Very annoying when you get a bong and warning every time you turned the ignition on, 800 miles from home and away for a month. Second year they managed to correct it after a month using a "hot fix", which I believe is an alternative way of resetting the log. I seem to recall Skoda UK saying a glitch sometimes happened but unless the dealer reported it then the software for resetting would not be updated and could reoccur. I have since had a non main dealer service and all has gone well. Colin
  22. Two options. Don't leave the dog in the car, or on page 40? of the owners manual it explains how to deactivate the internal sensor of the alarm system via a switch on the B pillar next to the driver. Colin
  23. I have found cruise control to be useful on the increasing number of A road and motorway sections where average speed cameras are becoming more frequently found. Colin
  24. Such models are usually available from the dealer "Norfolk and Chance". Don't just read it, say it and you'll get the message. Colin
