  1. Does anyone have a space saver wheel they could measure and post the width up? I'm still keen on it. Living in Ireland journeys tend to be shorter than the uk - also if the space saver would free up some boot space then that would be very handy. I was told by the dealer I couldn't have a full variable boot floor when I ordered the car (long story discussed elsewhere) so if I went for the smaller spare this could hopefully be a halfway house for storing rarely used bits and pieces.
  2. So it would appear that the space saver offers only marginal, if any, savings over the standard wheel. I was just keen on it since my old Mondeo spare was approx 2/3 the width of the other wheels and a good bit lighter, so I thought the Skoda would be similar. I'll chat with the dealer again then decide.
  3. Picked up the new car yesterday. I had specced a space saver spare but it came fitted with a full size one. My thinking was:- Have only had to change a wheel a handful of times over the years. Big savings in weight and space with the reduced version. Worst case scenario is if you are on holiday and can't get to a tyre shop for a couple of days. Reckoned I could live with that risk. The dealer says he will change it for me but before I decide does anyone know what the difference in size and most importantly weight is? I know many will prefer to have the full wheel as a spare but does anyone have any firm arguments for it, or is it purely just personal preference?
  4. So....if an SD card can give you exact same as an iPod, then the Mitsumi option is a waste of time? Does the SD card give you access to artists/albums/artwork etc like the iPod? Also I'm a little baffled that the connector is above the sliding compartment - each time you leave the car you'd have to disconnect the iPod and hide it. If the connector was below then you could just slide the door shut and leave it in there forever....or am I missing something here?
  5. Could be an option and bit more theft proof than the ipod  Think I've got a spare 128MB kicking around so will have a play first - I'm presuming the functionality and artwork etc will be similar from the SD?
  6. Yes but the problem is battery life - I thought it would be neat to keep everything inside the compartment, but if the cable isn't an option then I may just have to use a standard cigr lighter charger
  7. Collected the new Octavia today and pleased so far, but one potential issue:- I have an Ipod touch(30 pin connector) with all my music on it I also have to use an Iphone 5s for work(Lightning connector) The supplied Mitsumi connector is 30 pin. Fine for the Ipod but as I can see myself having to connect/disconnect these devices several times per day I'm not too keen on the converters I've seen available (would they be up to this kind of usage?) Can't see any kind of double-ended jobs online - does anyone know if they're available, or is there another solution?
  8. This is fairly concerning. Is there any kind of "checklist" you should go through on receipt of a new Octavia?
  9. Was wondering about this too - so you can't just remove the whole thing for going on holiday etc - and if you fold it down it takes up a lot of space? Doesn't sound too great
  10. Looks interesting - is it hinged 2/3 of the way back? How did you go about making it?
  11. Tried a few of my local branches but they appear to be sold out - anyone know if they're available online?
  12. I'm not overly bothered about voice control - as long as the bluetooth works and the phone contacts etc are easily displayed I'll be happy
  13. My car will have the Bolero only fitted. I've also asked for the Mitsumi option. So the Bluetooth+ option is 180 quid just for the tray? I think I see what the options mean now - the dealer is saying I can't have the Bluetooth+ voice control option. He's not sure why. Does this mean it's already included(I'm speccing the Bolero + Canton) or can it not live alongside the Mitsumi option? Sorry to be asking basic questions here but neither the dealer nor the main Skoda office in Dublin know the answers.
  14. I see on the UK configurator the following is offered:- Bluetooth+ (wireless aerial connection) £180 On the Irish version however the options are:- Bluetooth+ voice control €20 Bluetooth+ voice control & wireless aerial connection €285 Bluetooth+ wireless aerial connection €265 Does anyone know what these different options do exactly? The dealer doesn't seem to know
  15. I know nothing about roof rails but am tempted by these for my new Octovia Estate. Will they be compatible with any other roof box/cylce carrier etc or would you have to buy these to suit?
  16. Interesting - I've been over this multiple times with the dealer. I'm in Ireland and he says with the Irish spec the VBF cant live alongside the sub-woofer. Not having seen one in the flesh I can't really contradict him but I'll be very interested when the car comes in a couple of weeks. Having said that some posts above are saying the VBF isn't that great - maybe I'll go down the home-made route if it turns out not to be possible on mine.
  17. I've been told the VBF can't be factory fitted alongside the Canton sub-woofer. I quite fancy the idea of making my own though - has anyone done it or have an idea how it could be done. Asking because I haven't seen a VBF in the flesh.
  18. Sounds good, so I could tuck in the cylce rim under there no problem? It's 57cm
  19. Does anyone have the exact dimensions of the VBF as fitted in a Combi? Specifically trying to find out if it will accommodate a 22.5 in cycle rim.
  20. I'm in a similar situation, have seen a deal €500 better after placing a deposit. I'll probably stick with existing deal though if nothing goes wrong. Reason I'm posting, slightly off-topic I know, but I placed deposit last week and have heard nothing back from dealer. This guy never gets back to you anyway so maybe normal but what is the normal process; do they only contact you again when they have a delivery date?
  21. Mmmm yes it makes sense - so bit of a mystery why it doesn't seem to be available here in Ireland...
  22. The UK website says it is....the Irish one seems to grey out the option when you try to select both together. Anyone know for sure?
  23. Little clearer on this (I think) - if you select the VBF + Canton as options for an SE on the UK site, it's fine. However I'm in Ireland, and when you select these same options for an "Ambition" model (slightly lower than the SE I believe) it says you can't have them both together. Anyone know why?
  24. I'm based in Ireland and looking to buy a new Skoda. The finance options are PCP or standard HP at 3.89% I'm more keen on the HP, and heard they were doing 0% finance a year or two ago here. I also heard that they may offer it again in the near future - does this match up with what is on offer in the UK, or does anyone know more? Obviously if it was imminent again I'd wait a few months before ordering the new car.
