  1. Road noise is common. My son's Fiesta is as noisy and also my brother-in-laws Yeti.
  2. I have noticed that other Roomsters have this feature so I suspect that a dodgy batch of pressings were used
  3. Do continental prices work out cheaper for the buyer in France than the UK? I have always felt that the equivalent model in the UK is more expensive compared to our continental counterparts. Of course manufacturers may change specification levels to make a comparison more difficult.
  4. I am surprised that the rear pads lack meat when new.
  5. It is tempting to use the power on tap. I graduated from a Nissan Micra to a Triumph Dolomite 1850HL. The increased torque and power output and 0-60 times around 10secs (good in the 70s) made me squirt the throttle to get the push in the back which I found intoxicating. In Australia I hired a Mitsibushi 380 auto and that had muscle. Today I have matured and quite content to poodle around with 86bhp. My glory days are over.
  6. The threads are dry so they look good.
  7. Clive Sinclair and his C5 was not so stupid after all!
  8. Advisory is an old chestnut. I was advised my tyres only had 4mm of tread left and the brake pads only had 40% linings left. Us old uns who owned agricultural 60s Vivas and Anglias are not taken in by these selling techniques. My keyfob batteries are coming up to 7 years old although the range is shorter.
  9. You are right. I only took up the offer because it was a freebie and curious if I would notice any difference. It proves this 'about time to have this done' should be 'don't fix it if not broke'. My son's 5 year-old- Fiesta was re-gassed yesterday as it was not blowing cold but my brother-in-laws Galaxy never was re-gassed in the 11 years he owned it.
  10. A friend bought a new Seat Arona through CarWow. I don't know the discount or price
  11. To tell if mine is cold enough if the side of my face aches and goes numb then it is OK. I had Bells Palsey 4 years ago so I know the feeling of paralysis down one side of my face. Apologies if anyone is suffering from the complaint. It does go eventually
  12. PS. You don't need the breathalyzer kit either. When I mentioned it to our french Friends they laughed. It was proposed but not put into law. The proposal has now been dropped.
  13. Personally I don't bother. We have been going to France for the last 10 years to see French friends and my lights on dip are about central in the road. There does not seem to be the bias on headlamps as there used to be. I set the headlights on the lower setting and in the years I have been going I have not been flashed by French or German drivers. The French friends don't bother either when they visit England. I know that on some models there is a lever to move across the re-aim the lights but I don't know where it is. The stick on thingys are a guess as to where to stick them on the lens. I have a pair on the travel kit but have not used them.
  14. The technician at the main dealer did not provide my service at a satisfactory standard so the dealer offered a free aircon service as recompense. As the system had never been regassed after 5 years from new I believed it would be colder and better but there was no improvement.
  15. No-one would have taken notice only for the girl with the squeaky earring. The campaign must have worked because we remember it
  16. No. I have the manual. I took advantage of a great deal in 2013 when Skoda were offering new Roomsters at £9600 instead of the £14400 list price as long it was Brilliant Silver or that pale blue and with the 86bhp 1.2 tsi engine and with panny roof, rear parking sensors, rear disk brakes, air con and SE spec. The ads in the 80s stated: 'If everything was as reliable as a Volkswagen.'
  17. I am starting to feel guilty driving a petrol engine car. Rather like smoking in a restaurant or drink driving. I would rather keep the environment clean with an electric vehicle even though they are a source of worry for charging on a long drive. I was standing outside a shop waiting for wifey when an elderly gentleman got into his Auris Hybrid and glided away cleanly and quietly.
  18. So interesting. I want one.
  19. How far do you go with auto transmission. Roll-Royce have a GPS tracked gearbox which knows the terrain before the car does so changes down before the car feels the uphill drag. Amazing.
  20. On a technical note a few years ago Toyota commented that: Why design an engine for maximum efficiency and strict emissions but marry it to a human who will undo their good work? Yes, the human is the weak link. It would be more sensible to design the engine and drivetrain to work in perfect harmony with 'on the go' decisions taken by the car and not the driver. The downside is that driver satisfaction may be taken away. As far as the car is concerned why rag it around and drive on the red line where emissions and economy fly out of the window? Yes automatic control is here to stay and i am surprised it has taken so long and ironic that the internal combustion engine is on the wane and not in the mindset of future propellant considerations.
  21. Reading other posts of other models was the Roomster the last marque with the least hangups and the most sane buy? I am now petrified to buy a new Skoda with the problems of DSG gearboxes filled with the wrong oil, software and hardwire glitches, electronic nightmares of reading VCD codes and general frustration of understanding bluetooth connection, updating gps maps, and angry that I cannot play something basic as a CD. After 7 years, I have had no problems with running issues breaking gearboxes, software bugs and emission controversy. I count my blessings!! Amen.
  22. I have to do mine on my Roomster as speed 1 has packed up. I have not done it because of the airbag light problem. Is it difficult?
  23. A similar to problem to a post a couple of month ago when the battery and airbag were unplugged to replace the fan speed control thyristor pack which is situated under the airbag on the passenger side.
  24. There were leaves and some bodies of flies and other debris in the folds. Replaced it with a Mahle filter similar to the filter I took out.
