3000 miles ago I bought a front pair of Hankook tyres with AI marks around the tyre in a series of indents on the outer and inner tread. The purpose is that they should show equal amount of wear and to see if your tracking is out, or I suppose camber. I have attached a picture of the driver's side outer tread as an example. As anyone else experienced this feature and how accurate is it in practice? I have found their is minimal extra wear on the passenger's tyre with the small indentation with less depth but does road camber have to be considered?

Not at all daft. I have found driving lightly loading the engine at higher revs gives a better mpg. For example a flat stretch of road with a 30mph speed limit shows better mpg keeping in 3rd gear than changing into 4th.

I have just accepted it as the design. Funnily enough my neighbour has bought a second-hand Octavia (07 reg) and he finds the same on his when cold.

I normally drive between 50 and 60 on dual carriageways locally and the consumption gets in to the mid 50s and even higher on a run. I am old enough to remember the oil crisis in the 70s when we all drove at 50mph to save money and fuel. Today I am passed by faster drivers who hammer along without any care about the cost and I wonder how they spend the five minutes they save after reaching their destination.

Don't know if you have an 'Inspection' message also. To cancel this do the above but with the hazards flashing. It works on my 63 reg 1.2tsi

On two occasions I have had the constant beep when selecting reverse. The first time last summer it rectified itself. The second time it happened after I had washed the car. I went around the sensors and pressed in the discs back into the bumper. One sensor felt squishy and water came out of the disc surround. That seemed to rectify the situation and has not happened since even after the wetting we have had in the past few days.

Is it random or a constant problem when hot or warming up? Although I have the 1.2tsi, since new it occasionally 'hiccups' during warm up on idle.

I find the pull strap difficult to use as I find it too short because the tailgate hits your forearm before you reach the point when the tailgate closes under its own weight

A mate took his fuel filter apart after it had been 20 years in a petrol 1.8T Passat. He found it clean with slight residue and debris.

My Varta died last month after coming up to 9 years of sterling service. I had warning though a week prior of death when the starter motor was lethargic in turning over on cold starts. On the fateful morning it slumped so after a 3A trickle charge for 4 hours it started and I visited the local car spares to buy a new one. Fitted it and back to normal.

I have read that a new battery has to be coded to the battery management system. Is this correct or mumbo jumbo for getting the replacement done professionally?

My water pumps have always lasted the life of me owning the vehicle. In 55 years of motoring I have never had one go and never replaced one. My Roomster is 8 years old and no problems.

I have only used cruise control on automatic models which change gear to maintain speed, for example, going up an incline. How does a manual gearbox deal with changing inclines as it is fixed in same gear until changed by the driver. Presumably the cruise control disengages when a gear change is executed, but if left would it not labour and grind to a halt? Please enlighten me.

My daughter's partner changed it 15 mins max. Yes so easy the myriad of connections on the positive terminal unclips and lifts off in one piece. Original battery was a Varta, 50Ah 480 'whats its for cold start ouput'. Thanks for everyone's advice.

Just noticed that the new battery does not have the metal studs the negative fits over. Is just the clamp enough to keep the terminal tight?

Bought a NAPA battery from my local Car Spares for £69. 50AH and 400 cold cranking output and same dimensions as the original. Seems the business! Thank you everyone for your advice

If I get another battery will that fuse pack fit correctly over battery top.? Looking at the cut out in the plastics to miss the 'viewing eye' looks as thought battery is tailor-made

It is difficult to see any info as it has a tightly fitted felt belt around it I need to dig deeper
