  1. Unlock car wind drivers window down enough to enable you to put your arm through, lock car wait for led on door to stop flashing, alarm is now armed. put arm through open window and alarm should activate. unlock with key fob and alarm will stop. You now know everything works as it should.
  2. 08 petrol 4x4 Octavia bought last year, sure footed under most conditions and well worth purchasing for towing our Dandy Destiny Camper.
  3. I have just looked on ebay they have one second hand for £18 free delivery within 3 days. item # 282865730463.
  4. Without knowing what you are driving diesel or petrol it is difficult to answer.
  5. 5 Octavia's and never needed to have any holes drilled as all the fixing holes are already in the chassis. Look for witter tow bar and download the fitting PDF.
  6. I have owned a 55 plate1.6 FSI for 5 years from 33,000 now 62,000 no problems and run it o shell with redex every fill, no running problems.
  7. Could just be minor, mine shows up if idling at traffic lights or junction for a while after driving for a while, I have had it checked and always the same code indicating a discrepancy between the lambda sensors, the independent I go to says the car does not like me achieving readings of 45+ mpg so when it idles it thinks there is a problem. I have owned it for 5 years in November, it has passed the emissions on the MOT with flying colours, and performs well. A previous MK1 estate did the same and sensors and catalyst were changed but it still threw up the same code, so every so often read code when notified, same old erased code and carried on, The estate is still running around somewhere near Huddersfield 3 years on. BTW 1.6 FSI hatch on 55 plate.
  8. Pay your money and take your choice, there are plenty to consider. I have a cheap £10 HD DVR 2.5" TFT LCD Screen type fitted front and rear on both my Octavia's and have put small signs warning that they are recording. Just plugged into the accessory socket when in need using a multi adaptor. Footage has been forwarded to the Police following an incident and resulted in prosecution for the offender. A second occasion it showed who had caused a collision and helped the Insurance company prove fault.
  9. MK1 & 2 be it 1.6 or 2 litre Hatch Estate or 4 x 4 have all been petrol, never an issue.
  10. Its what I did on my old MK1, however it is easy enough to run a cable to the fuse box on the console end and piggy back a fuse to a live feed on a MK 2, plenty of info on how to do same.
  11. For what it's worth my wife owned a 1990 MK1 2 Liter Octavia estate that used 1 liter per 1000 miles, the hand book stated that 1 liter per 600 miles was acceptable, no problems other than checking the oil level for 5 years, before trading it in having achieved over 100000 miles.
  12. +1 for MicMac's suggestion, then +1 from Octavist.
  13. Drive less aggressively for a while and see if it makes a difference.
  14. My wife and I have owned 5 MK1 and MK2 Octavia's for many years, all of which have not required replacement exhausts in the time we have owned them. The standard exhaust appears to last in excess of 10 years, surface rust there may be but they are still sound. Who sees the surface rust usually ? If you have surplus money in these financial challenging times and wish to change a perfectly serviceable exhaust due to surface rust then go ahead. Personally I would wait until it shows positive signs of failing then change it.
  15. car cam front and rear have caught offenders of this nuisance and when info and visual proof handed to insurer damage repaired and recompense sought from offender.
  16. We acquired a 2008 2 litre FSI Octavia 4x4 fairly recently and we are very pleased with every aspect of it. Having owned a previous 2 litre FSI Octavia it is good for mid 30 mpg even when towing.
  17. Should be smooth acceleration through the rev's, I had similar when a coil pack started to fail , a scan showed up which coil and it was once replaced no problems. If your mechanic pulled the coil packs off one at a time to identify the faulty one this could have caused a spike which led to the beginning of another to fail. I now carry a spare coil pack and spark plug just as a precaution. It has been 4 years so far and all is well.
  18. Why ? a 4X4 needs ground clearance if it is to be used to its full potential.
  19. being part of the aircon unit it is not a DIY job due to the gasses involved.
