Black Badging
As stated above, I just do not like chrome, so I have now painted the exhaust tips gloss black. Even replaced the chrome wheel centre caps with black ones.

Octavia VRS TSI clutch compared with a Golf R one.
Oh well guys, it looks like a performance clutch in the near future. I will probably get used to the heavier pedal in time. Hell, I used to drive HGV's in the late 70s and all through the eighties and the pedals were heavy and I got used to those. Thanks for posting back on this guys. When I eventually get the new clutch fitted, I will put some feedback about it on here.

Octavia VRS TSI clutch compared with a Golf R one.
Hi JR. No, I don't actually race the clutch up at all. It momentarily slips if you use the torque of the engine to gain speed in a higher gear with the clutch already up, so I try to avoid doing that of course and I drop it down a gear or two to accelerate instead. If you really floor the gas pedal in a lower gear, there is the odd time when you can just hear the clutch slip a fraction, again with the clutch already up. Most of the time though in lower gears under power, no slip at all. But of course, it will only get worse in the future, that is why I wondered about the Golf R clutch.

Octavia VRS TSI clutch compared with a Golf R one.
My standard clutch on 28k miles can't quite handle the power of my stage one remap anymore, as there are times when there is a momentary slip. How does the standard clutch of my VRS compare with a Golf R one? I know I may need to go Helix or Sachs performance clutch to handle the torque, but I am trying to resist that if possible. As the Golf R has a similar engine, but comes out of the box with around 300bhp, I just wondered whether the clutch from the golf would fit in my Octavia? If so, I would have thought it could handle the torque my mapped engine and then I would not have the problem of a stiffer clutch pedal a performance clutch gives you. I have a feeling I will have no choice but to go with a performance clutch, but maybe the more knowledgeable of you out there might know the answer.

Polystyrene spare wheel insert - worth it?
If you fit a space saver spare wheel and want to save the foam insert without cutting it up to fill in the space, do what I did. I took out the insert and stored it away. I do at times carry heavy gear in the boot, so the space between space saver wheel and removable floor creates a big weakness. So I bought a sheet of plywood, "5 ply" and cut it to the size of the boot floor. That now sits on the metal floor over the wheel cavity with the removable carpet flooring over the top.

New member race blue RS Octavia 2010
Hello and welcome. My last car was a 2011 Race Blue Octavia VRS TSI. Great car and enjoyed it so much, I bought another one.

Wheel centre caps
If you are replacing the caps with new ones, Gissin has a good point. Just drill a hole in each of the old ones and pull them off as they will come off easily.

OEM vs. aftermarket mud flaps
Ordered some replacement rear mud flaps for my Octavia, based on the part number you guys have been telling me. Got them from Kopacek and they arrived in 2 weeks. Stuck them on today and they are a perfect fit.

VRS MK3 Exhuast
I have recently had fitted the Scorpion cat back resonated exhaust. I hate any drone, so initially I thought I had made a mistake with this exhaust. It tended to drone quite a lot when accelerating. With steady revs it was okay and it also sounded nice when putting your foot right to the floor when really getting a move on. It was just the drone when accelerating at a reasonable pace that annoyed me. I know exhausts tend to settle down over a few miles, so I kept my patience. Done around 700 miles now since it was fitted and I am very glad to say, the annoying drone that bled my ears has all but gone. I can now enjoy the sound of my motor without ear plugs. Lol. It's all down to my age, as you youngsters would probably have loved it when it was first fitted!

Vrs sound generator obd availability to turn it on?
I guess you have to try it first before making your own decision.

Vrs sound generator obd availability to turn it on?
Boy that actuator is a marmite thing. Personally I hate that false engine sound. Always had my engine setting in comfort to virtually cut it out. Each to their own though. Mind you, when I was a very young kid in my pedal car, I was the actuator, as I pedalled along saying out loud, brrmm brrmm.

OEM vs. aftermarket mud flaps
The remap was done before the Scorpion exhaust. If I fit an induction system, I guess I could now go to a stage two map. Happy with the power as is though.

OEM vs. aftermarket mud flaps
After looking at langers2k photos and numerous posts about the flap part number, I have just ordered another set of rear mud flaps, 5E0075101. I can only think the ones Kopacek showed for my model of car originally were wrong. Maybe that is why they are no longer shown on their parts list for the Octavia MK 3. When the new ones arrive, I will take the original ones I fitted off my car and dump them in the bin.

OEM vs. aftermarket mud flaps
I picked the worse part number then, dam. Can you still get bits from Kopacek now? If so, might get the other rear flaps.
-
OEM vs. aftermarket mud flaps
Can't of course remember the part number now. Although I have just looked on Kopacek website and can't find the ones I ordered anymore. I see the ones with your part number state, "Fits Octavia 111 before facelift models". As my car is a facelift model, I remember reading that and ordering flaps shown further down their list of parts. These ones stated they fitted my facelift Octavia. Very strange they no longer show my flaps for sale! That small gap you have shown at the bottom of the flap, is like mine, but I think my gap is at least a couple of mm bigger.

OEM vs. aftermarket mud flaps
I bought mine from Kopacek also. Strangely the fronts fitted perfect, but the rears needed some adjustment to fit reasonably. Had to pull them down hard around the bodywork and clamp the bottom of the mud flap to the edge of the plastic bumper and use a bolt with 2 large washers either side of the bumper to keep them in place. There is still a small gap between the mud flap and the bodywork though. Before you say it, I did choose carefully the correct mud flaps for the model of my car. Maybe somehow Kopacek got their part numbers mixed up on Octavia models.

Tyre noise
I completely agree with the hater statement. I have bought a car with P Zeros already fitted and found the wet weather grip actually dangerous. Changed them when they still had 5mm of tread left, rather than keep them any longer. I now have Michelin PS4s all round and they provide excellent grip, although they are a bit expensive. Have also read great reports on the Goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric 5, so as they are a little cheaper than the Michelins, might try these next time. Would avoid the P Zeros like the plague though.

Air Filter change interval
You may have started something here Warrior193. I would also love a tool to make changing the cabin filter easier. I would not mind paying extra for your time, materials and of course postage. You could make a bit of money here mate. No pressure though if you don't want to make an extra one, as I am being a bit cheeky asking.

Michelin PS4s
I can certainly vouch for them as I have a full set on my car. I find they give good grip in the dry as well as the wet. I am running 329bhp and they stand up to the power very well without too much wheel spin. In fact, you do have to really boot it before any hint of wheel spin in the lower gears occurs. Well impressed to be honest with them. Looks like you got a pair of PS4S tyres for a good price there. I actually have my tyres in a width now of 235 instead of the standard 225. Helps protect the 19 inch alloys, as well as put a bit more rubber on the road.

Not happy
I had a similar problem a few years ago with my previous MK2 FL Octavia VRS TSI. Bought it 160 miles away and drove it home. 2 weeks later the engine warning light came on, intake manifold flaps fault. Thanks goodness I had the warranty from the garage I bought it from. Had a new manifold fitted locally under warranty. A bill of around £600, thank goodness I did not have to pay it. The garage that fitted the new intake manifold said somebody had taken the old one off recently and botched it so that it lasted a bit longer. Maybe the previous owner did the deed and then sold it on. Anyway, the manifold was replaced at no charge for me at 30k miles and gave me no other problems till I part exchanged the car on 104k miles for my present VRS.

Drivers door buzzing when listening to music with some Bass.
Can't help you with your problem, but you may have helped me. For a few months I have had a slight rattle coming from around the drivers door area. Happens when going over slightly rough roads. Could not pin it down, but after your post I must try the window buttons. Hope we both solve the problem soon, as rattles are bloomin annoying.

Clutch
Further to my earlier post, the clutch on my present car has just started to slip in the high gears. Now I bought the car from Skoda when it was 9 months old with 3k miles on the clock. Had it mapped last year to 329 bhp stage one and the car is now on 26k miles. Over the last 1k miles it does slip when you accelerate in a high gear using the torque of the engine, which I hardly ever do by the way. I use the lower gears to gain speed and then there is no clutch slip at all. Might need the Sachs performance clutch myself if it gets any worse and then suffer the heavy clutch pedal. I have had many cars over the years, Civic Type R, where I bought the car on 40k miles and the clutch lasted 122k miles before it was replaced. A mapped Accord where the clutch was fine when I sold it on 107k miles. My last VRS Octavia which was mapped on 60k miles and it was fine when I sold it on 104k miles. It does seem by a few posts on the MK3 VRS Octavia, that the clutches are a bit weak. Especially when you hear from owners that even an unmapped Octavia's clutch does not last long.

Has anyone fitted a "resonated" Scorpion exhaust to their VRS?
Hi Ads230. I certainly think you are correct about it bedding in. Must have done at least 400miles since it was fitted and it does sound a lot better. Like you, it is also not me just getting used to it either. In fact I am starting to like the sound now, although it would be good to have it bed in just a fraction more. At first I thought I had made a mistake buying this exhaust, but my mind is changing of that opinion now. Can't wait for as you say, 1000-1500 miles bed in. Cheers for all the info mate.

Has anyone fitted a "resonated" Scorpion exhaust to their VRS?
Leeds is nearly a 400 mile trip for me, so I thought I would give a Scorpion exhaust another try. I say another try, as I had one years ago on my Civic Type R and was extremely happy with it. I might have made that long drive to Tony Banks and the exhaust he makes up might not be quite as good as the other one he made for me. On Tony's first attempt, when I had asked for a non boomy exhaust with just a better tone, the one he made was awful, with mid range booming that blew your ears out. Even my young daughter thought it was bad. So a few weeks later as I had to pass Leeds to get to Newcastle, I dropped in for him to cure that really bad mid range booming. The car then came out of his workshop perfect.
