  1. So now the exhaust is fitted, which by the way the mechanic said it was a pain in the ar-- to get the numerous parts put together without touching anything. My opinion is- with a steady touch on the gas pedal, not much difference to the standard exhaust. Put a bit of pressure on the gas and there is a bit of a booming effect, but I guess I will get used to it. Floor the gas and that is when it sounds the best, bit of a roar actually. On tick over, you can tell the exhaust is not standard, as it does have a slight low burble to it. On my last MK2 Octavia VRS TSI, I had a custom exhaust made up by Tony Banks in Leeds. That was perfect with just the sound I was after. This one comes in at second place to the custom one, in my own opinion of perfection.
  2. I will soon know what the Scorpion exhaust will sound like, just ordered one. Will bore you all with a later update on what I think of the new sound of my motor once it's fitted.
  3. Thanks for your reply Ads230, as usual you are very informative. I am not after a major difference in sound, just something that sounds like it should have done out of the factory, seeing as though it is a GTI engine. Don't think I should get too much noise from the boot area inside the cabin with the Scorpion exhaust, as I reinforced the boot floor space when I stuck a space saver wheel in there, rather than the gunge and foam insert. So I have on the boot floor, 5 ply wood cut to match the boot floor area, the usual carpet and then a thick rubber mat. I just hope after spending a fair amount of money on the exhaust, it will be worth it when I hear it's new sound effect.
  4. As per the title, anyone out there who can give me an idea of the sound of a resonated Scorpion exhaust. As I am "getting on a bit" I certainly do not want a non resonated one, as too much sound and possible booming in the cabin would drive me mad. However, as numerous members here have stated, the Octavia VRS original sound is just too muted. I did in the distant past have a 2002 Civic Type R EP3 which I fitted a Scorpion resonated exhaust to and it sounded just right. With my last MK2 FL Octavia VRS TSI, I had a custom exhaust made up and that sounded great. Before I spend £740 on a Scorpion exhaust though, I need to know whether there is any improvement to the sound to make it worth it.
  5. I would also love to just buy the drivers rubber mat, as the others are in perfect condition. It just seems another way a company can make more money, by selling the mats in full sets only.
  6. There does not look like there is enough bolt on the surface to get a set of mole grips on there. On watching Wheeler Dealers on TV, they had the same problem with some bolts. So they put some Tig weld on the end to create more metal to get mole grips on there to unscrew it. That of course means going to a garage for help.
  7. As I said in my post, it's 5 ply. When you buy plywood you get it in a thickness not described in cm or inches. So with plywood you can buy 2 ply, 3 ply, etc. 5 ply just means 5 pieces of thin wood glued together, therefore 5 ply. Plywood is stronger than you would expect if you have never used it before. Without going out and measuring it, 5 ply is around half an inch thickness, or in modern language, around 12mm. Certainly strong enough for your needs. Just go into a builders merchant and ask for a large sheet of 5 ply and cut it to shape.
  8. When I bought my Octavia, it had the foam insert in the wheel well, along with that rubbish gunge you use if you have a puncture. So I took out the foam insert and replaced it with a space saver wheel. The space saver is of course, quite thin, so there is a space between the wheel and boot floor. If I then did load something heavy in the boot, it would bow down into the space between the wheel and boot floor covering. I carry heavy loads regularly on dive trips, 4 full cylinders and dive gear in the boot, so I also need a strong floor. My easy remedy, I bought a large sheet of 5 ply plywood. Cut it to the shape of the boot floor and laid it down covering the whole floor, with the carpet and a rubber boot liner over the top. It is now very strong and certainly would be strong enough for a few bags of gravel. Below is a photo of the plywood inside the boot. The light part of the photo is only a reflection of the sun, that shiny thing we sometimes see in this country.
  9. Although my Octavia came with the Black Pack, for me it still had too much chrome for a modern car. In fact, any chrome on a modern motor I just do not like. Chrome only looks good on some classic motors. So over the last few months I have either taken the chrome badges off for good, or replaced them with colour matched and black ones. I have also taken the chrome exhaust tips off, rubbed the chrome dull and sprayed them gloss black. Today I have at last got rid of the last chrome badges, the centre wheel caps. Bought some off ebay, rubbed them down and sprayed them gloss black. Keeping the old original chrome and black centre caps, just in case I think I have gone too far and want to put them back on again. A mate of mine suggested painting the brake calipers black as well, but that I think, might actually be a step too far.

  11. That's the problem, I don't need any more bits at the moment. Might just have to wait till I do, as that price for delivery seems to be a bit of a rip off. They never used to be that bad, even after Brexit.
  12. Just looked at a footrest with a 40% discount price of 29.99 euros. Okay price I suppose, until I saw at checkout the added price of postage of 19.99euros. Think I will leave the item with them.
  13. The rear black badge comes with it's own self stick backing. Item number-- 5EO853687SNTA-F9R. Fairly certain the front grill badge, where you have to use your own glue, was number-- 5EO853679CNTA-F9R. There is no backing plate separate to the front grill badge. Once the old badge comes off, all you see on the part of the grill where it came from, is that the grill has a very small piece of it that is flat. Here is a photo of the rear of my motor with all black badges and black exhaust tips. It is fun getting those tips off to paint them, NOT!
  14. That is correct. Just mark where you want to put it and slightly roughen up the grill fin surface to give the glue a key to stick to. A glue like Araldite is perfect for the job. As I said earlier though, make sure you get it straight before the glue goes off. Araldite usually holds it in place within 10 mins and is hard soon after, depending on the outside temperature of course.
  15. You just have to glue it to the fins of the grill. Enlarge my photo to see where to place it.
  16. Are you replacing the one already on there? I replaced my grill VRS badge with an all black one. They are glued on there quite securely, so I had to get a firm grip and pull it off hard. I then scrapped the old bits of glue off the grill with a sharp blade. The new one I fixed on with Araldite glue, making dead sure it was straight before the glue hardened. That badge is meant to be glued on, according to the info that came with it. All my chrome badges have now either gone for good, or been replaced with black or colour matched to the cars paint ones.
  17. As with the other posts, spare wheel every time. With my previous Octavia VRS I bought a full size spare wheel. Dam good job I did. Hit a pothole and that caused a bulge in the tyre side wall. The tyre with the bulge got me home though. Bought a brand new tyre and a month later going round a roundabout, that new tyre hit a pothole and burst. The rubbish gunge you get with the car would not have helped there. So on went the spare wheel and continued my journey. With my present VRS, I have bought a space saver wheel and again dumped that plastic tub of gunge. Moral of the story is, you might not ever burst a tyre, but if you ever do, you will be so glad you bought a spare wheel so that you are not left stranded.
  18. Do you have any garages that make up custom exhausts over there. On my last MK2 FL Octavia VRS TSI I had a custom stainless steel exhaust made up with the sound I was after. In fact, just the sound you seem to be after as well.
  19. Hi rumberake. It does not look like there is any cover missing, as here is the underside of my dash.
  20. I bought epoxy primer online, as I saw a video showing it is the best primer to stick to chrome, as long as you take the shine off first. I used sanding blocks and an electric sander. You don't really need heat resistant paint, as the exhaust tips don't really get hot. Feel them after a drive and you will see they are barely warm to the touch. You may have read already when taking the exhaust tips off. You need a lot of patience and a small ratchet and socket. The 4 small hex bolts on each tip are a sod to get to, but although I have quite large hands, it only took me around 30 mins per side to get them undone. I did however, spray them with release fluid the day before.

  22. They have only been on the car around 8 months, but so far they are perfect. I just thought, I have a decent car so it deserves decent badges. LOL. The other badges I took off were not replaced, so the only bit of chrome still on the car are the wheel centre badges. I have also just taken off the chrome exhaust tips, rubbed the shine off, epoxy primer and then sprayed them gloss black. I prefer the look of them now compared to to the original chrome shine. I hate chrome on modern cars!
  23. I bought 4 badges from Kopacek. 2 x black VRS badges for front and rear and 2 bonnet and boot colour matched ones. Lovely badges but what a cost!! I seem to remember they were around £140.
  24. Have you tried the online part finders, such as "Find a Part" or "247 Spares". They scour breakers far and wide and ring you if they find the parts.
