1. Also I wouldn't check email using a POP3 client connection that isn't encrypted, which I think is the majority of them, certainly seems to be the default settings anyway. Interesting that it is possible in theory to connect to the hard drive if the machine is not set up correctly, so short answer to the question is yes... Like the thought about pretending to be an access point, how would you know if it was not?
2. I got asked "Now what, if anything, stops someone being on a free public wireless access point simply accessing the hidden root c$ share on another XP machine using the access point and looking/copying the files off it"? To which I don't know the answer, so over to the Tech Shed...

4. Thanks to the MOT query answers, I'll book it in and see! I didn't see an actual thread on fixing it other than a number saying the rod/mechanism was broken, use a screwdriver to release the seat. I expect you have to peel the grey backing off to get to it, or there's some method of prising out the top plastic catch and cover. That's why I haven't time to faff around fixing it. Any pointers about fixing welcome, although I will try and see if I can get a Skoda service centre to sort it.
5. The release for the rear fold down seat on the passenger side has broken :( - I see from threads on here that this happens - so the seat can't be folded down without fiddling with a screwdriver from within the boot. It is latched securely in the upright position. Haven't got time at the moment to faff around with it to fix it, but the car is due an MOT soon, would this be a failure? Hmm, just thought, guess this still be covered under warranty (got about twenty days to go till the three year mark)... Anyway, will it pass the MOT? Cheers.
6. Browsing the web and a tab in IE7 seemed to get redirected to this http: // www . sg10scanner . com - spaces in URL so no one clicks on it. with an annoying dialogue box with OK or Cancel wittering on about Spyware Guard 2008. Now I hit control alt delete and killed iexplore because I assume that pressing any button would start downloading some rubbish to my computer, but it also seems to work in Firefox 3.0.5 with the dialogue box. Anyway, look out for that URL, anyone dared ventured to see what it actually does? How can you stop it if other sites do this? I've entered the address into my local HOSTS file so it redirects to 127.0.0.1 so won't see it again but of course other sites could do this... Screenshot below:
7. Most likely that a cell has gone in the battery, replace.
8. Now with Windows 7 have Microsoft changed the massive mash of operating system and user data files scattered everywhere that is XP, Vista and everything before? Why do I think not but love to be proved wrong, this is a feature I would dearly love. O/S files on C, Application Files on D, Program Data on E, Scratch/Temp on F, User documents/data on G. Seperate partitions. That is how an operating system should work IMHO. Be SO much easier to support and maintain.
9. Just as no one has mentioned it as it's the fuse in these cases, if the bonnet switch that detects the bonnet is fully closed fails then the wipers won't work. Mine failed on my old 04 plate VRS as it had a crack in the plastic which let the damp in giving intermittent faults. It's located near the bonnet catch.
10. Now this is where it might be worth paying the poor student fellow at Halfords the fiver with penny change to fit it...
11. AFAIK activating rear wiper when selecting reverse with front wipers on is part of EC directive 94/68/EC and so is fitted to all cars with rear wipers manufactured from around 1996 onwards. If so it is cunningly a piece of legislation that is marketed as a feature Bit like 'now available with hand operated parking brake' might have been on very early models of cars last century Back on topic - it tells you about the air circulation and reverse gear in the operating manual Like most people for me the book just lived in the glove box for ages but was very interesting when I actually read it!
12. If you make a 'big' purchase, between £100 and £30,000, make sure you pay either all the amount or a deposit towards the amount on a credit card - but not credit card cheques - because then the credit card company will have equal liability under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974.
13. How did you get to it then?
14. FYI the notices in the Brighton Zavvi store said the 10% didn't apply to 'games hardware'. This could just mean the actual consoles though...
15. You can also get a replacement disc for Gears of War 2 for a tenner via the Microsoft XBox Disc replacement plan, see here: Disc Replacement Plan The order form tells you all you need to know. HTH
16. You might like to browse the 'Gear & Electronics' section of the Runner's World forums, lots of 305 users there: http://www.runnersworld.com/community/forums/index.jsp My fiance has the 405 and has it linked to Google Earth which is very cool... You can also export the plots from the Garmin software as a GPX and upload them to EveryTrail - GPS Travel Community, Share your GPS Tracks, Geotag your photos
17. 10/10 That score didn't impress the missus though for some reason?
18. Does anyone know of a reputable source for preferably an actual Panasonic 'official' battery for my digital camera? I'd like a spare but looking on the internet all I seem to find are copies and clones, not really interested in these as who knows if they are safe but maybe there are some good ones out there if you can't actually get an 'official' one? The battery is a CGA-S007A to fit a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5. Ta for any help
19. I am after a source of port powered (ie no power supply) USB hubs that have a method of mounting them on the wall relatively securely (ie better and more professional than velcro/blu tack etc). Something like a little round keyhole like recess in the back to interface with a screw head that looks something like this (ASCII art alert): __ | | / \ | | \____/ would be great. Also if it had an inbuilt lead to the host PC of around 1 metre in length that would be good too. Anyone seen anything like this? Perhaps have a look on the back of your hub if you have one, which of course they never show on websites that sell them, and see if it could be mounted on a wall, if so put the make/model in the thread Ta.
20. Shame, but when you've finished editing them buy one of these Hard Drives - External Desktop Drives - Ebuyer put them on it and then leave them alone So cheap now...
21. Try Testdisk and Photorec 6.9 from here TestDisk 6.9 Release - CGSecurity HTH
22. Why not just move your O2 number to Orange  Don't tell me when at home no Orange coverage only O2...

24. When I bought my Thule roof bars from the Skoda Dealer over a year ago they were the cheapest - and are official as they have 'Skoda' printed on the plastic covers - but the Thule bike rack from Skoda was way more expensive than the same one with Thule written on it available off online stores. Another hint - buy the thule roof bar first then you can get the keys for this to match the lock on the bike rack (or racks if you want two).
25. Try disconnecting pin 19 on the SCART lead attached to the telly in the back room. SCART pin out here: SCART pinout Just check you get the right pin as diagrams of course can be viewed from the front or rear of the connector. Most SCART lead connectors have at least pin 1 if not all of them numbered in the plastic. HTH (BTW My thinking is that the back room telly is outputting a video signal as it loops back causing trouble to the front room one)
