  1. No, there is no automatic option. It is fairly straightforward, though: in the date and time submenu of your infotainment system's settings there is a DST option where you just check/uncheck the box.
  2. Apparently the clutch press-depress is not so intuitive with DSG. I found this thread on a VW Golf forum that explains and gives examples as to what DMF failure in a DSG is like: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?t=5948064
  3. It has indeed been covered a while back, many users found it notchy especially when cold. I've recently had my car serviced and asked the mechanic about this (given that my previous mk 2 had an absolutely lovely, smooth gearbox). His reply was that in order to better protect the gearbox from wear they have used not one but two synchros for first and second gear (that are bound to suffer in slow traffic). He claimed that this makes the gearbox better stand the test of time but he did acknowledge it makes all of them notchy. You do get used to it after a while but then, if like me, you go back once in a while to driving a mk 2 you realise how much nicer things could be.
  4. I had a creaking steering wheel in the 9 o'clock position that gradually worsened. I had it checked at 16000 km and the initial thought was that the wires from the steering wheel were loose, hence when rotating they would get caught in between and creak. However it turned out to simply be a bit of foam insulation that was in fact loose and when turning it was causing the sound. It's a small thing but I've seen others that had creaking steering columns so I thouht it might be worth sharing.
  5. As above, must be a tiping error. The French brochure (O3 FL VRS TDI) claims 7,9 s for the hatchback vs 8,0 s for the estate (manual or DSG does not seem to make a difference), whereas the 4x4 version gets 7,6 s in hathcback or 7,7 s in estate. You can check it out at page 9 in the link https://indd.adobe.com/view/d7784aeb-565d-4250-be33-04b3446a08a9. Actually across the range they claim the same difference of 0,1 s in favour of the hatchback. That being said, they may have measured it with a French Bulldog in the boot rather than a Labrador hence the lesser difference.
  6. Mine also does that but it seems to be due to the steering wheel ever so slightly touching the steering column. In my case it is in a 9 o'clock position and every time I do a low speed manoeuver the resulting friction creates a subtle noise. It does not interfere with the manouevrability of the car in any way. If it sits in the sun, the plastics dilate and it sound worse. During the winter season I hardly heard it. It seems to be just one of those annoying rattles, not safety related so minor, but I will mention it when I get it serviced.
  7. Can you upload a picture of it? Is it the same on both sides? I think the dealer might try to blame it on user neglection if both are the same and you have stone chips etc. (even though it may be a poor material choice by the manufacturer), but if only one headlight has is it sounds more like a warranty case.
  8. I am really glad to hear this. I have been thinking about this for some time now but neggative reviews (on different VAG cars) had put me off. However wheel hop is ruining the experience so now you have persuaded me to go ahead and buy one. I will check whether its a type 1 or 2 and give it a try. Thank you very much. Enjoy yours!
  9. Great news, thank you. What insert did you go for? There have been reports about vibration-noise-harshness when idle, reversing or when the A/C is on. Could you please comment on those? I am contemplating getting such an insert but given that I do mostly city driving I'm worried this might ruin my traffic jam experience
  10. I haven't found any data regarding the 2.0 TDI but the ADAC website (sorry, it's in German) has tested: - preFL 1.6 TDI with a braking distance of 34.4 m https://www.adac.de/infotestrat/tests/auto-test/detail.aspx?IDTest=5242 - FL 1.4 TSI with a braking distance of 34.5 https://www.adac.de/infotestrat/tests/auto-test/detail.aspx?IDTest=5613&info=Skoda_Octavia+(III)+Combi I am unsure if the added weight of the 2.0 TDI makes much of a difference. I have a 1.8 TSI that comes with bigger brakes, not sure what the 2.0 TDI has. ADAC has also tested a Superb Estate 1.6 TDI (37 m) and a Superb Hatchback 2.0 TDI (35.5 m). So I guess you should be closer to 35 m rather than 40 m (if you use a proper surface for braking, with correct tyre pressure and just the right temperature; maybe also with a near empty tank :P)
  11. Yes, same here. It is only noticeable if you look from the side. I have had it for a few months now and it sits well in place, no rattles or anything.
  12. I do indeed wear glasses and I admit there are few if any of my friends that notice the same thing. I thought I should share it though...
  13. It might be worth checking a car that has the heated windscreen before your order the car. It is absolutely great on a frosty winter morning or when driving through a snowstorm at speed, but every other day of the year (if you notice it) it will reduce visibility and cause glare. The thing is not everyone notices it, I have had people alongside me in the car who could not be bothered by it. I on the other hand can't help but notice a sort of foggy vision. It is an individual response so worth checking what works best for you.
  14. I have the same problem, every now and then. The dealer could not find a fault or fix it. It happens more often on my Polo than on the Octavia. Common solutions would include: make sure you use an original cable, the one supplied with your phone would be best; reinstall the app on your phone; make sure that when connected the phone is in MTP mode (media transfer; with some carriers or OS versions it may use charge mode by default, not MTP)
  15. Hi! +1 one here for wheel hop driving me nuts. I plan to fit a dog bone bush insert such as Powerflex. I haven't found any threads covering it for the Octavia MkIII. Has anyone tried it? How bad are the negative changes, does it really vibratre that hard? My concern is that it may not be just the comfort that has to suffer but also various body parts that will take more stress than they should. Then again, the prospect of dammaging the transmission is not that great either so I would opt for the modification. Any experiences?
  16. Unless they have made significant changes in the facelifted OS, flac files will play but album art is not displayed if the image file is large. In my case many of the jpgs attached to recently bought music were of good quality (ie big) and the car would not display them. I used a program to reduce their quality and then reassigned album art and it has worked flawlessly ever since.
  17. Could those by any chance be halogen headlights with a lense system? The high beam looks like a halogen one.
  18. What irritates me is that when I am not tired I am quite keen on avoiding potholes, which may require the odd sudden change of direction. It senses the steering input and the message pops up. As I do grow tired, I avoid potholes less and then it shuts up about it
  19. I fully agree that they seem too low. I have the same problem with both my cars; had I had the option of adjusting manually like on the old car I would have set them higher. Yet both work as they are supposed to - I had them tested and this is the road legal beam height; it may be modified by the dealer but that could expose to MOT failure as the lights are considered dangerous and thus strictly regulated (as goes with the mandatory headlight washers on HID/LED vs halogen systems)
  20. I know it sounds old fashioned but have you tried vinegar? You just moist a microfiber towel in it and try to rub off the stains. Pay attention so as not to let any of it touch the paint or other body parts.
  21. Is there any chance you could take side by side pictures for comparison? I have seen a couple of FLs but was less impressed, compared to a Passat with LEDs it seemed the Octavia headlights were no match. I was driving a Polo with LEDs (a more basic system, without any focusing lens) and could not see any advantage in the Octavia when side by side; I would have expected the lens in the Octavia to offer a better beam distribution but could not notice it. This said, the cars were moving in well lit areas so maybe conclusions should not be made. So, could you team up to take any photos?
  22. On the bright side, in the year since I started this post I have clocked 15000 km and so far I never needed to top up the oil. So it may be badly designed but at least doesn't need using all that often.
  23. If you consider buying it new, then you probably won't have a 1.4 any longer, from what I understand it is being replaced by a 1.5 TSI in the facelifted version as well as the new-ish Golf etc. Hence, the engine is brand new and little will be known about its reliability.
