  1. Hmm, wasnt aware there were any straight 5 powered skodas?
  2. ...Hmm, seen alot of that lately. I think sometimes people forget this is a Skoda enthusiasts forum, not a forum for selling thier beliefs on other marques.
  3. Maybe alot of young, dumb british males are buying vRSs (not just Fabias) thinking they are the ultimate handling machines, chipping them, then crashing them spectacularly! ...long live testosterone!, let it decide insurance premiums for many years to come! :thumbdwn: This is not a new phenomenon. It has happened with nearly all popular performance badged cars that the common person buys, XR, RS, GTi, GTE, GSi etc etc
  4. Fonzi, have a look at Cobra bucket seats, their factory is in Telford and they have special sale days, normally on a saturday where you can pick up the seats cheap, also they can trim the rest of your interior to whatever you want. The subframes can be got from them and fitted too, either they have a felicia spec frame already (because they will have fitted them before due to the felicia being used as a rally car) or they will make them up.
  5. Pinkskud, I may have to ask Tom about this setup and see if it will go on the Fav. Do you think the discs will fit inside 14'' rims though?
  6. Looks like we wont be having a meet as theres not enough interest.
  7. Has anyone thought of photoshopping stripes on a kitted Fabia 2?
  8. ...There are quite a few manufacturers who do uprated discs; cross drilled/grooved and because the Felicia shares the same brake pads as the Ford Sierra there are a number of companies offering uprated pads. Also, fr better pedal feel and responsivness A goodridge front 4 piece brake hose kit will make a bit of difference. To be honest though, if you want the ultimate stopping power you will want a larger diameter/vented disc setup. There are currently no easy ways of achieving this as the VW parts bin is not compatible with Skoda Favorit/Felicia derived brakes, so its not as simple as bolting on better calipers/discs etc but Teflon Tom and Pinkskud are working on these. Im sure they can tell you alot more about this subject than I can. Cheers, Al
  9. Spot on ...but why make it handle even worse just to make it look...erm..."cool" was my reasoning. Yes, Bigger rims fill the arches, give the car an aggressive, bigger appearence, but from a handling/track day/racing perspective is a negative. Still think its an alright looking car though, just like the Fabia 1.
  10. Arguement Against Larger wheels: 1. Poor performance in the wet 2. Poor performance on un even roads 3. The effects of tramlinging or more severe 4. Increase the weight of the car 5. Produce a harsher ride 6. Increases the moving unsprung weight 7. Larger wheels may increase the spring rate, and make the car more sensitive to suspension geometry changes 8. Slower acceleration 9. Accelerated wear on suspension components 10. Gyrscope effect is amplified- bigger wheels will resist the change in direction more than smaller ones.
  11. Also very interested about the engine tuning guides. Worth a few pints at a meet mate.
  12. I went from 14s to 17s on a Volvo 360, 14s to 16s on another 360, 14s to 16s to 17s on a Sierra XR4x4, 15s to 16s on a Saab 9000 turbo, 13s to 15s on a Skoda Rapid, 14s to 15s on a Corolla GTi-16 and 15s to 16s on a Rover 216GTi ...So yes, I can say in nearly all circumstances the handling was worsened with the addition of bigger wheels. Ever heard of the "gyroscope effect" and "tramlining" when fitting bigger wheels?
  13. We are talking about looks here not how they drive and yes both cars look pretentious because the styling is that stupid they are trying to imitate the look of a space shuttle. The Fabia 2 styling still maintains a relativley normal approach. ...On most cars if you fit larger diameter rims you ruin the handling. I cant see any side skirts on that Fabia also. Doesnt anyone know if there are any available with the bumpers?
  14. If you go to an indepenadant garage that specialises in alloy refurbishment they normally charge £25-£30 per wheel.
  15. Ive just recieved a set of goodridge braided hoses, but they have set me only a 3 line kit but ive heard there are 2 types, 3 and 4. Does anyone know if I have I got the right ones? My Fav is a 1995 model.
  16. The Getz looks far worse, just another annonymous south korean econobox. It shares similar lines with the new Suzuki Swift and thats about it. Skodas are not meant to catch the eye of the common person, they leave that job to the mainstream marques. They are more subtle and discerning. The styling is understated, not bold and pretending to be a something it isnt; A la Corsa VXR/New Civic. They appeal to people with common sense, on a budget who dont need to make some sort of stupid statement and use thier car as a fashion symbol - so the styling is well rounded and safe, just like the previous Fabia.
  17. Certainly on the Skoda owners club forum most members "just like Skodas" not because they are a new car and want the latest electric crap and to look cool in a new car but because they generally respect the marque. Thier parents might have worked for the old skoda in the 70s/80s or their mum/dad/relative might have owned one which brought them to buying a Skoda today. This probably exists with all manufacturers but its special in Skoda's case as they are not the popularist's choice.
  18. Yes, trully shocking isnt it? I think they are getting a cult following with the retro VeeDub scene, outdoor types, surfers and the like. This is good news as it will broaden the appeal of other Skoda models to different segments of the public. Maybe Skoda should do something similar with the new Fabia?
  19. We are talking about this chap's Felicia and Felicia/tuning related topics here. We should be welcoming this guy, he is new to the forum after all. Granted the grammar/spelling is not strictly the Queen's but this isnt an English literature forum and the only reason he put up a thread was to post about his Skodas which is what people on the Felicia section like to chat about and to be honest I dont think there is a single grammaticly correct post on this forum! Enough has been said on the whole grammar issue. No more posts about grammar please in this thread. Before people get offended if they are not already. Lets get back on topic. Skoda owners are not normal, if they were they would be driving Fords and Vauxhalls or whatever the latest "cool" car is these days )
  20. The kit looks subtle and understated in true Skoda fashion. 16s look purposefull. They might handle pants with anything bigger as most cars do. Also those brake calipers and discs look small inside the 16inch rims, would look silly with the larger gap from bigger wheels. Bigger rims would make the car pretentious and just like all the other cars on the road. Everything rides on 17s-18s now. A set of smaller, but wider rims maintains some character and will actually improve handling, but each to thier own. The rear bumper seems to have a diffuser built in, on high performance cars such as evos and M3s the diffuser helps stop the rear end from lifting at very high speeds, maybe its just a cosmetic feature of the kit, but again it looks purposfull and brakes up the shape of the smooth surfaced and body colour coded rear end.
  21. Definatley! At least its *** end lives and rolls on so to speak and remains an individual fairly unique machine!
  22. Maybe, but doing cheap with style and confidence ...unlike Daewoo Nexia owners lol.
  23. Indeed, but they crop up on trader and ebay quite often and in my town I see 3 about on a weekly basis, 2 of them are "works" vehicles with the owners small business livery splashed all over the body. Was it 650 made all together for the UK? From the numbers that pop up for sale id say most were still on the road.
  24. ...Not being funny, but does it really matter how many sets are left? Its impossible to know, and I dont think its something thats going to be possible to find out. They keep tabs on how many models of cars are manufactured etc and you can find out from the dvla how many are on our roads, but finding out how many sets of 1 type of wheel were made isnt going to be possible. Yes, they are rare rims, but not that rare - and thats all anyone will confirm. Id imagine they would have been made in series production, meaning there will be several thousand sets of them about.
