  1. everyone, I present you the reliable 1.6 TDI engine with 126 000 miles. Go figure.
  2. I just used a universal dog guard bought from eBay. Had it since and never had an issue.
  3. you thinking you're having a bad day with your car? I've got a skoda with an engine that it's about to leave the group chat and an SLK with very very big structural holes. Yay me
  4. Not at all, it comes bubbling out from the middle of the tank. Pressure must have been high yet no pipes are leaking and I have had the cap off. But should there be pressure like that in the system?? I bought another head gasket tester and I have negative results again. I waited until everything was up to temperature and did it mani times. I went and placed it near the exhaust after just to humour me and it turned yellow within less than a minute. I'm actually waiting for a friend to spare a weekend and help me pull the engine out. Might take it down to a garage first and ask for their diagnostic.
  5. this is why the coolan has gone. the tank is split in the middle.
  6. The car ran at temperature for 1h or so, drove it around and the coolant stayed the same. I don't know the answer, not sure what chuffing sound you are hearing, I may have got used to it or something.
  7. what other test can I possibly do to diagnose a bad head gasket?
  8. Because of the rattly cluncky noise at high revs? Does a head gasket causes that?
  9. so I had a friend that came over and he pretty much said bottom end in his opinion. We did a compression test 390psi, 390psi, 380psi, 380psi (last two the battery was struggling still on charger). Compression looks good. Then we took the cam cover off to check for cam wear and everything looked smooth and shiny but didn't do anything past spinning it and checking the cams. Img for reference but not sure you can see anything. I'm not sure if it's a head gasket still, I am still taking in consideration what has been said so thanks @sepulchrave it's still on my list. Next step is oil pan off and inspection of the bearings. I have a camshaft position reading of -1.5° at all times not sure if this makes a difference? Side note, there is some oil coming off between engine and gearbox, a mist but noticeable.
  10. I have 2 other cars, this one was for motorways only as it's more confortable to drive long journeys. I think I might park it for a while and have a good think about it.
  11. I was desperate I tried. What's this car worth in this condition? Scrap value?
  12. I've completed a injector adaptation again this morning and the car did it's reving thing for 20min and when I went back to inspect the engine bay, I also topped up the coolan system with some of that steel seal HG liquid which took it bang on in the middle of the tank, and this is what I found. That missing coolant is back, wtf... It was way below the min line and now it's at the top. Also I was peaking under it when it was reving and the knocking sound was definitely louder under near the oil pan. I might pull the pan off and inspect the bearings just for the fun of it at this stage.
  13. I've done something possibly stupid, I've unplugged each Injector at a time and the sound made no difference. I'm leaning towards bearing failure. I'm at the point now where I can't afford to spend anymore money on this car. I will take it to a garage tomorrow for their diagnostic and sell it as it is. It went from a relatively nice car to cruise on motorways to a sack of metal. 😕
  14. I did a test with one of those chemical testers and it came negative, no change in colour. I will see if I can get my hands on a kit. Does that not sound like a bearing rod?
  15. https://youtube.com/shorts/r5_04TQxoxw?feature=share
  16. so I replaced all 4 injectors with reconditioned units, the reading look a lot better but my engine sounds the same 😞 I coded the new injectors too.
  17. so I suspect injector 1 is no good? what about injecor 3?
  18. how can I test the injectors? can I use VCDS?
  19. 1.6tdi 125000milee Turned the key on and it started to knock. Took it in my garage and the knock was getting louder. I noticed some coolant has gone as well. https://youtube.com/shorts/NfXbM7IEJfY?feature=share
  20. I've got AC 🙂. It was low on gas and also the old module was faulty. I got no more errors.
  21. I booked it with another garage for Monday. £60 to regas. Fingers crossed
  22. Yes it's all spinning, I can feel the engine working harder when I press AC. It doesn't have a clutch as some other AC compressors I've seen. Am I right refrigerant shouldn't be lost otherwise there's a leak in the system? Is it worth me replacing anything if the pressure is low? I need to book it at another garage by the looks of it.
  23. I bought a brand new one and fitted it. I bought a used module as well and fitted it. I also bought a new thermoswitch but haven't fitted it just yet just in case. Nothing worked yet. Here is a picture of my fake vagcom reading. Car is at idle.
