Skoda SIM required for wireless Apple CarPlay?
For what its worth - some images of the various screens after setup. You caan see that the Iphone remains on 5G, there is no WIFI network in use, and seemingly no Bluetooth in use either. I think that Bluetooth is used initially to establish a connection which then switches to a direct or private wireless connection - which is not the same as a WIFI network connection. Menu Screen Telephone Screen, showing Apple Carplay is the 'Phone' choice. selecting the Connect Via Bluetooth swicthes to the Skoda built in Phone feature. Touch the CarPlay Icon on the above takes you to Carplay. This is my Iphone Settings page, no WIFI but Bluetooth is on. This is the Bluetooth page, nothing actually connected via bluetooth. Skoda SIM required for wireless Apple CarPlay?
Something else I’ve just remembered. On the menu screen selecting telephone displays a screen which says the phone is via CarPlay and gives the option for Bluetooth. I leave it on CarPlay but I guess if it’s Bluetooth you d need to select CarPlay.

Skoda Fabia 2016-2017 questions
At that mileage it has to be very cheap to be worth considering. A few thoughts 195000 miles in 7.5 years is 25,000 per year. Not unreasonable I’ve had 3 cars that I’ve taken to 150,000 miles on annual mileages of 25k to 30k. Servicing will maintain normal wear and tear items, but it’s the other things: seat fabrics and support, carpets, wheel bearings, suspension bushes, gearbox oil, clutch, electric windows. At 195,000 the engine and transmission must be close to end of life. If the bodywork is really good and the price is low enough, it could be a bargain if you are prepared for fitting a lower mileage engine and from a crashed car in when something terminal happens to the engine. Good luck. I

Skoda SIM required for wireless Apple CarPlay?
I was trying to find the actual screens and setup whilst sitting outside my house just now. On my Iphone I switched on WIFI connected to 'My Skoda 9345' and no internet access as I expected, then the phone picked up the house WIFI and connected at which point Carplay in the Karoq lost the connection. Spent 10 minutes trying to recover and failed, Decided to go back to square 1, Delete the Iphone from the Karoq, deleted 'My Skoda 9345' from the Bluetooth and WIFI of the Iphone. This is what I did to reconnect without using Skoda inbuilt WIFI. Touch the MENU button, select Mirrorlink/Smartlink, touch Mobile Devices to do a search, which should detect the Iphone, and display a code. On the Iphone select Bluetooth from Settings and the code should be displayed, they should then PAIR. When APP is selected Carplay screen displays the Iphone Icons with 5G not WIFI, as required. On the Iphone Settings/B;luetooth/My Skoda9345 if you click the (i) for Information it should display a button to Launch Carplay automatically make sure this is selected.

Throaty noise on low throttle
It’s a Skoda thing, I do the same in our Fabia, I think it’s because the surface it’s mounted in slopes backwards. I noticed that with the switch set to auto the symbols around the outside light up when the ambient light levels drop, be better if it was in the dash though.

Skoda SIM required for wireless Apple CarPlay?
Just been re-reading this thread and checking my earlier post. I initially setup Carplay connection wirelessly for just Itunes. I was using the Skoda built in Phone functionality. But it only worked when Bluetoothed to my phone using the MY Skoda 9345 connection which meant that my 5g Iphone used the internal Skoda WIFI for internet access. I could see on the Carplay screen and on my phone that it was using wifi. So I switched to using the Phone app on the Iphone via Carplay. Carplay launches and connections automatically, I can see on the Iphone screen and the Carplay screen that 5G is in use by the Iphone., Unfortunately I can't recall out who I did it, I'm guessing that I went through the Menu system.

Buying Skoda Karoq - (noob) questions
I can't fully answer your question. maybe others can, but can provide my experience to date, based on my Sept 23 Sportline. The multi-function steering wheel l (MFSW) does not have a button for answering calls or directly initiating the phone feature., neither does it have buttons to manage the built in sat nav. However it does have the ability to skip tracks back and forth but not as far as I can see navigate a folder structure. On the right hand spoke of the MFSW are buttons to manage the virtual cockpit display. My preferred setting is to have Tacho dial on the left and speedo dial on the right, for this discussion what is displayed in the middle of these two dials is not applicable, but what is displayed in between is. This centre section can display any of the following ; Navigation, Audio, Assist Systems, Statistics, and using the scroll roller select or alter the various features of each one. My default is Navigation and I have the map permanently displayed. At this point what you see and can control will depend on how you choose to set things up. you can choose between supplied functionality for Navigation and Phone, Apple Carplay for Navigation and/or Phone and Android - I don't have Android so can't say how that operates. I use Skoda Navigation and Apple Car play for phone. Why the mix. Skoda Navigation because when following a route it gives the next junction info, road name, distance time etc between the two dials and the full route is displayed on the touch screen, when not following a route the map is displayed between the two dials. When behind the wheel I find this the best option, if I want to mute or unmute spoken directions I have to do it through the touch screen or ask my passenger. Voice commands I find to be pointless, it doesn't work off preset phrases but requires you to 'say something'. When driving you simply don't have the time to say something and then check the effect. I use the Skoda App to input destinations into the Sat Nav. The App uses Google Maps which is easy. and then you transmit the destination to the car. Far simpler than trying to use the GUI on the Touch Screen. So why Carplay for phone, I setup Carplay for Itunes that works fine for me, and initially I was using the Skoda Phone functionality which jas the (dubious) benefit of having the Voice control. and it interfaces to the display between the dials and is controlled by the MFSW buttons. But it only worked when Bluetoothed to my phone using MY9345 connection which created meant that my 5g Iphone used the internal Skoda WIFIi for internet access and it was useless. So I switched to using the Phone app through Carplay which means to answer a call I have to tap the icon on the Touch Screen, A big plus is that it will 'speak' any Whatsapp or SMS messages I receive. Even in the car I use the Skoda Connect App to input directions into the Sat nav and it works much better using the Iphone's 5g SIM. Hope this is of some help.

A lot of the control options are sensors linked to the throttle and for brake. For example S/S can be controlled by brake pedal pressure, reducing brake pedal pressure slightly as you come to a stop will keep the engine running, likewise with the engine off reducing pedal pressure with start the engine provided you don’t have Auto Hold on. Turning the steering wheel will restart the engine, leaving a slightly bigger gap to the next vehicle in a queue allows you start creeping forward when the car ahead of the one in front starts moving, it gives time for the engine to restart and the clutches to engage.

I once, and only once, made the mistake of driving forwards into an on street slightly downhill parking bay at right angle to the street. It was an uphill reverse out into two lanes 30 mph traffic. The view to each side was compromised by the vehicles parked either side. This was when I resorted to creeping using the handbrake to control speed.

Lower back pain
So I’m not the only one who has to remove their wallet when driving a Skoda, my brother is the same in his Yeti. Skoda Seat Wallet ache! Is what we call it.

Reversing up an incline up to an object is perhaps what some might consider the weak point of the dry clutch DSG. Definitely switch off S/S, Auto hold might need to be switched off too, personal experience in the specific situation will determine, I would keep hill hold engaged, to prevent running forward and then having to either brake or try and catch it on the throttle. Have you got pedestrian assist switched on, that should stop you hitting an object in front or behind when creeping. Experiment with an empty card box,I did, if I let the Karoq creep up to the box on tick over in forward or reverse, it would fully apply the brakes to cause an emergency stop. Having said that it’s a leap of faith to rely on it. I have resorted to left foot braking of using the manual handbrake on my previous DSG car, but the electric parking brake has removed that option. Request to Skoda, could a hand controlled brake function be added to the paddles to help in this situation?

On my Sportline there is a Drive mode button, the Individual option allows the selection of sound on/off.

Correct Rear Wiper for Karoq Sportline 2023
The rubbers on the front wiper blades are removable. Mine were juddering and noisy too, I realised it was because they weren’t flipping over on the return sweep. Standing unused in the sun had caused the rubber to “set”. Removed the blades, slide the rubbed out, turn them round - job done. Replacement rubbers are £5 a pair, considerable saving on a pair of new blades.

Buying Skoda Karoq - (noob) questions
The back rest is obviously adjustable gif rake/recline, the seat squab or base its angle varies according to height, due to the way it pivots. At lowest setting it slopes more, as you raise the seat the back comes up more than the front does so the floor is reduced. I do find (don’t laugh) that I have to remove my wallet from the back pocket of trousers in any Skoda that I drive, otherwise it causes a numb buttock!🫢. Fabia, Octavia and Karoq, never had the problem in 11 years with my VW Touran - I think it’s the side bolster width at back of the squab.

Dash Rattle / Vibration / Buzz
Is it temperature related - a plastic part is contracting or expanding slightly and vibrating? Silicon spray along the joint might help. My 1984 Austin Maestro was notorious for doing this - very annoying.

Struggling to locate/contact a specific Skoda Dealer
@AGFalco Thanks for the offer. I'm kicking myself for not looking in the Owners Manual, as I've been using the online manual.

Struggling to locate/contact a specific dealership
The 30 page report included diagrams for each side, top, front and back, showing paint thickness on every panel, to prove that it was per factory spec depth. Then photographs of every location where there was a blemish with a rule to show scale. I don't think I'd have noticed the marks if it was any other colour. I've been reliably informed that there was an issue with a number of vehicles being stored next to railway lines prior to delivery. It doesn't need a respray just cutting back and polished, as I understand exactly what a good detailer would do prior to ceramic coating for example. I assume that it should be possible using build date, PDI date etc to determine if my Karoq could have been affected, if it couldn't then my claim won't be approved. I think it would be impossible otherwise to determine where it got affected. I know it can't be on my drive at home though.

@Rory Brilliant front of the Owners Handbook exactly as you predicted GBA Technical Services stamp is recorded. Why couldn't Skoda Customer Service tell me that!

Struggling to locate/contact a specific dealership
@Rory Thanks for the reply .My Karoq was a DG 23 registration .Yes I did see and drive the car before purchase. The blemishes in the paint are very difficult to spot, see photo below. For various reasons I didn't get round to doing my usual overkill clean and polish until 3 months after getting the car. After a good wash I clay bar the paintwork, apply a coat of Super Resin polish and then a coat of High definition wax polish, I spotted the two marks on the rear bumper as they wouldn't polish out I thought it was a paint defect, they are all over the horizontal surfaces of the paintwork.

Struggling to locate/contact a specific Skoda Dealer
This is a long shot perhaps, but all other options so far have drawn a blank, if anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Briefly I am trying to make a paintwork warranty claim on my Sep 2023 Karoq, and I need to contact the supplying dealer Skoda Bentley ECO Car Scheme, has anyone ever heard of this dealer, know where they are based or have any contact information. I bought my used Karoq in April 2024, a Skoda Approved Used car, from a Skoda dealer in Birmingham. My local Skoda approved bodyshop has produced a 30 page report on the defective paintwork and considers it a valid claim. The local Skoda dealer in Milton Keynes says its not a manufacturing defect and it should have been resolved by the supplying dealer during PDI, they have referred me to Skoda UK Customer Services. The Bodyshop agrees its not a manufacturing defect, and I don't dispute that, but the fact remains the paintwork is not right, it has been affected by environmental pollution while stored prior to original sale, hence why it should have been rectified at PDI by the supplying dealer. Skoda UK Customer Services have provided me with the name Skoda Bentley ECO Car Scheme as the dealer who performed the PDI but are unable to provide anymore information other than it was a Motability Scheme. Having contacted Motability, who have no record of a Karoq with my registration I'm not sure this is correct. From Google searches ECO Scheme would appear to mean Employee Car Ownership Scheme which seems to be a VAG scheme for employees to have a car for 6 months. With a Sept 23 registration and being a used car on a dealers forecourt in April that seems to look like a Skoda employee lease car, especially as the Birmingham dealer told me it was previously a Skoda Management lease car.

Buying Skoda Karoq - (noob) questions
I have driven large Sprinter and Transits regularly over the last 10 years so I have some experience with larger vehicles. I came to the Karoq from a VW Touran, which is practically the same length and width. The bonnet on the Touran dipped down more, and it was a more boxy shape, vertical sides and rear compared to the Karoq where the rear and sides slope in. As others have said make use of the Karoq's highing seating position and have the seats as high as is practical to get you eyeline as high as possible. I'm 6' 4" and have the seat right down but my eyeline is through the ttop 6 inches of the screen - I never need to use the sun visors. The Karoq's door mirrors are superior to the Touran (and the Fabia) because they are deeper (top to bottom) and mounted above the waistline so they don't stick out as far from the body because above the waistline the Karoq comes in by an inch or so. The front and rear parking sensors are good, the display shows the path the car will travel through and which sensor is sounding which is very useful. The rear camera comes in two versions, as standard its the single view (narrow angle) with a fixed guidelines display., there is a twin view Narrow and wide angle) views which has dynamic guidelines which show the path the car will take so you can see immediately whether you will miss an obstacle, compared to the fixed guidelines which you can only tell if the car will hit or miss as you reverse. This is a retro fit option but worth looking out for on a used car. There is also a parking sensor upgrade, again a retro fit option, but was also an option at build time and again worth looking for. This adds 4 more sensors on the side of each bumper looking sideways. Karoqs with the self or auto park option will have these. Area view was another build option which uses cameras to see all around the car. If you regularly have to park close alongside something, this may be worth having. I reverse my Karoq down beside my 2 axle car trailer, you cannot see the trailer at all out of the side windows - i rely on the door mirrors and the camera to line things up, I have to be no more than 3 inches from the side of the trailer and parallel to it. At night the rear camera image is very good, well lit up be the reversing lights. However when the brake lights are on the camera image has a red glow, which blurs or obscures the guidelines and the image. This is a DSG related issue, because to reverse slow enough in tight conditions you need to use the footbrake, whereas in a manual car you'd regulate speed by using the clutch. Finally a word on Auto Park. I don't have this on my Karoq, I had it on my Touran and used it about 6 times in 11 years. Its very clever, and even though you control the speed and it always got the car into the space, it never looked like it would, so I was too nervous to trust it. Having said that what I learnt from watching how it worked with parallel parking was that exceedingly rapid sheering wheel rotation was the key to a successful parallel park.

Buying Skoda Karoq - (noob) questions
Stop/start is a button switch off or on, I leave on don’t have a problem with it. Forward Assist and lane assist are configured on/off through infotainment screen and through steering wheel button and virtual cockpit display. Sportline seats have lumber support and firm side supports done might find them a bit narrow though.
