  1. I wasn't referring to the garage cleaning my car at service time, it was like that when they supposedly valeted it before I bought it! I got lifeshine too, but doubt it was applied particularly carefully. I refused a wash at the service and will again next service (which has been booked more easily this time) as id rather do it myself. Swansea Sinclair did try and help as much as possible when I was quizzing then over my girlfriend's "fixed" rapid, and it doesn't seem to be suffering from the horror stories I've heard about, fingers crossed.
  2. There were flies in the cabin lights, moss in the rubber around the windows, tar spots... first thing I did was give them a proper clean!
  3. I couldn't get a service for 2 months at Sinclair. So went to Fred Rees and got one the following week, they were very helpful too. I've bought mine and my girlfriends cars from Sinclair and they can't clean a car to save their lives! The team the were really helpful though.
  4. They're unlikely to sell below what it cost to build the car, dealer contributions are a sweetner, you paid 6.5k less than book price, but depreciation will still nock several thousand off that again when you drive off, although less than if you paid full whack obviously. It's the same as the scrappage scheme con, nick 3k off a cars inflated price back to what you wanted for it anyway!
  5. I wanted to buy my Octavia cash, but the dealer suggested finance for the minimum possible and pay it off after a month in order to get 2 free services. So I did and it's worked a treat. The funny thing is that you did this to save £1600 but the car probably depreciated by £3000 when you drove it out of the garage.
  6. Willtheyfit suggests they'll poke out 29mm more, which is quite a bit, especially if you consider the tyres are a size bigger too. Lots of people on here have put spacers on their vRS's, but only 10mm up front and 15mm rear. Before shelling out a decent chunk of cash I'd park with one wheel up a kerb (brings tyre closer to arch), and get the tape measure out and make sure you can get 15mm extra radius and 29mm wider.
  7. Hi all, I've had a good look on here, and while there is a passing mention of wheel offset it was largely ignored in the discussion. Older fabia use 5x100 6Jx15 ET43 wheels Rapid takes 5x100 6Jx15 ET38 wheels Would it be ok to use the fabia wheels on a rapid, I'm specifically thinking of using for winter wheels. They would sit 5mm further in towards the suspension, are there 5mm spacers available which would then correct the offset? Used Fabia wheels can be picked up easy so makes sense to use them! Cheers in advance
  8. It looks like there is a small gap or nick in the rubber seal on the second photo, that's where the trail of grime seems to lead from under the bonnet anyway.
  9. You might want to include things like: Manufacture date (code stamped on tyre) Tread depths for each tyre Photos of each tyre You might get a bit more interest when people start putting summer tyres back on. Good luck!
  10. Usually takes about 4-5 miles normally, but took about 7 miles at -3'C I have been contemplating an electric pre heater, but not brave enough to go for it! Would like a webasto but a bit too expensive really. As for dpf regen, the oil doesn't need to reach running temp, although as it takes 10mins or so for exhaust to get up to temperature the water is also up to temperature in this time too. I've been watching dpf using the VAG dpf app.
  11. I'm trying to persuade my work to use all season tyres, Michelin cross climate are same rolling resistance as Michelin energy which is one of their main considerations, and they're not much more expensive either. But it's like banging your head against a brick wall to be honest. Even if the tyre depot has cross climates in stock we're forced to wait for them to order in Michelin energy.
  12. Yes all these are normal. The service book is now electronic. Although there should be a handbook. If there isn't one then it's in the Skoda app.
  13. Well done for only loosing $675 million dollars, not delivering on the model 3, and firing a car off course into an asteroid belt. Forgive me for thinking Elon Musk is something of a media tart chancer while Bill Gates is eradicating Polio.
  14. Has anyone tried the cheap electric parking heaters you can get off eBay and the likes? Like the one in the photo
  15. Warm cold warm cold with an unused car inevitably leads to condensation. I wouldn't take that as a sign for the overall car. The AC works as a dehumidifier, make sure the blowers get air into the back too. My old car after some wet dog walks I put a mains dehumidifier in the back footwell for a couple of days which worked well.
  16. Get it nice and warm with the air con on to dry things out as much as you can. Shouldn't be anything to worry about
  17. Millers power ecomax stuff is great, I used it regularly in my diesel megane, combined with an occasional blast, it did 203,000 miles and was still going good and giving 55+mpg!
  18. No worries David, I decided to get it anyway as the saving over the stealers price was significant. I ended up over £100 better off even after the cancellation fee from my old policy, and taking out your 4yr cover rather than 3. My Octavia MK3 is the most expensive car I've ever bought so the gap insurance does give peace of mind, I organised it for my girlfriends skoda rapid too, and recommended you to some other friends who have purchased cars recently. The dealer gap cover prices are corrupt! I would say on a par with the ppi scandals!
  19. Similar thing happened to me where going into reverse seemed to freeze the radio unit. Fixed it by stopping and putting it into reverse again after switching the car off. A few others on here have had similar and found nothing, and the dealers found nothing. One person had it reoccur after replacing the radio unit too. So it might be a random glitch. Will be interesting to see if your dealers find anything
  20. I thought about the 4x4 version for a little extra ground clearance, but the decrease in fuel economy and the extra buying price put me off slightly. I'm sure you are fully aware, but remember that winter tyres in snow are worth a million times more grip than 4 wheel drive and summer tyres! I've not had any problems in the snow with my 2wd, and I chose to drive the back roads to keep away from the idiots on the main roads in the snow! Worked a treat too as the main roads were blocked with jackknifed lorries and sliding soft roaders!
  21. That looks great and is something that I have occasionally wondered about doing. Incidentally, saying you haven't used the front fogs, don't fronts come on with the first click of the light switch being pulled out, then rears the second click?
  22. Best thing about the new nissan leaf (apart from not looking like a squashed frog) is that if you want to do a long journey nissan will lend you an ICE car for free! But, only in the first 3yrs new ownership. It's a great idea though.
  23. Yes, if you look at the latest "real world" tests the cr150 TDI engine fitted to a golf sv comes out as one of the cleanest, and why when the same engine is fitted to different models are the results are quite different I do not know.
  24. I've got a 2014 2.0tdi cr150 and that's not affected by the scandal, if your car has had the fix then the website checker tool brings up a message saying that you have had it done. That's what happens with my girlfriend's Rapid when checking her VIN (and the have been no issues with it either).
  25. Superb shmuperb. When will Skoda realise that their best selling model is the Octavia. It's pretty much the ideal car for most people, that's where they should be looking at phev and electrification. Golf GTE in an Octavia shell would be great, seems like the best current use of resources until battery power density per tonne takes a bit more of a step from where it is now.
