  1. At 30 miles per week the difference between 30 and 60 mpg is about £2.80 per week. Honestly, it's not worth worrying about. You can't even buy a pint for that. My dad does similar mileage. I've been trying to convince him to stop buying city cars and get something with a v8 He still can't drop the mpg thing though.
  2. There is a setting in the infotainment to have it auto retract (a bit) when the boot is opened. It doesn't close automatically.
  3. No I think you'll find referendums are the tool of populism. It's completely naive to believe that by letting people vote on things directly, you end up with a fair society. If you believe it to be true, lets have a referendum on how much tax we should pay next week. Don't get ill the week after as the NHS will be gone.
  4. Is it possible to have the car inspected by VWFS early and get an idea of the charges?
  5. I can't remember the last time I actually used the horn in a car. If you are finding yourself needing it often enough, that you felt the need to upgrade it, perhaps it's time to make a note of the events that cause you to need it and then review these. You might be putting yourself in a position that surprises other road users more often than your realise. BTW - Those teenagers, staring at mobile phones and crossing side roads without looking. This is risky behavior but they do have the right of way. If they step out - you need to stop for them, not blast them with the horn. Drivers in cities like New York, Cairo and Delhi seem to use the horn a lot. Fat lot of good it does them too.
  6. Oh yes, I'm sure there will be both genuine and fake copy cat stories. Never a shortage of idiots out there. I saw this one a while back and it did make me laugh: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/12/14/undercover-police-lorry-used-catch-careless-drivers/
  7. I don't see a problem. Prat does something dangerous and illegal. Prat is caught and punished appropriately for said something. This was never an issue with tech. It's hard to fix stupid. It's also not new: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/cruise-uncontrol/
  8. Anyone know how much automatic raising and dropping bollards for the drive are?
  9. it only auto retracts a bit - it doesn't close again on it's own. It's the roller blind style one that does it.
  10. If all else fails: https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/174083/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=skoda+superb+light+switch
  11. I wonder if this can happen if the switch is turned against it's stop and tries to rotate the whole assembly in the recess? So it's dragged the backing decal and split it? If it's still in warranty (I guess all mk3's are), it's worth trying the dealer first before pulling things apart.
  12. It almost looks like a crack? Could you pop it out and use some black paint on the reverse to stop light coming through?
  13. I'm frankly stunned that they opened the gearbox. Most real garages don't bother and get a specialist to do gearbox work. Did they provide a video of them working on the gearbox?

    Whiteboards

Is the board damaged or just covered in something? I use Durable Whiteboard Fluid on my home whiteboard and in work too.
  15. I think it would take some serious effort to leave yourself worse off trying to polish it out. Worse case it looks dull and still visibly scratched afterwards. You'll need a smart repair to fix that. The same smart repair needed for the scratch....
  16. Yeah mine didn't but it could have been due to impatience on my behalf when coming off the train (tunnel crossing). I'm sure I've heard some people say that you need to stop and turn the ignition off and then back on to pick it up? I found the ability to switch the units to km and then put current speed on the maxidot very handy.
  17. Folk wisdom economics of "don't spend it, if you haven't got it" is all very well but, if the entire nation actually suddenly listened, we would be very quickly plummeting down a black hole into an abyss. One where we are begging Germany to restructure our debts and Greece is laughing at us. Any change back to the "The Good Old Daystm" would need to be done over decades so that the economy can adjust itself to the new model.
  18. Agree with all of the above, get it on VCDS whilst recreating the issue.
  19. How old is the battery? Could it be sagging a bit low turning over and causing weirdness on startup? Then when you turn it off and back on again with the effective bump - there is no starter sag and the alternator is producing plenty of juice to keep everything happy so it starts without limp home mode. *utter shot in the dark.
  20. Really hard to understand the audio alone. I think it would mean more to the experts on here if they could see the wheel turning and the corresponding noises? Is the noise continuous at a given angle of lock? I.e when you turn the wheel to the point at which the noise is made, does the sound continue whilst the steering wheel is kept at the same position?
  21. I think the noise rating is based on a measurement outside the car as it passes. Obviously, this will be related to the amount of noise that enters the cabin but is not the whole story. Things like vibration that travel through the suspension, drivetrain etc. that cause noise wouldn't be included. Some of the car magazines include a measurement inside the car as part of their tests which would be more accurate but still flawed unless you can find a review of the exact size of tyre using a superb as the test vehicle. I'd go with the opinions of people on here first
  22. Does turning ACC off by pushing the stalk forward help? (this frees up space on the display to display mileage)
  23. I see a lot of them on the road. However, I live near Ellesmere Port and the staff and their family get crazy deals so can't justify driving anything else.
