  1. My Canton goes up to 11 (c) Spinal Tap. Mine is MY17 - as far as I can remember it's there in all modes. Never got it as high as 88 before though...
  2. Well obviously I was going to have a go at this... I have never used Eco mode for any distance previously. My commute is 34 miles, 90% motorway, all using ACC. In round numbers I tend to get c50mpg in winter and closer to 55mpg in summer according to the maxi-dot. Checking the long-term reading before I set off, it showed 51.1 - I would estimate that in normal circumstances the journey this morning would have returned 52-53mpg. So today I put it in Eco - I even left the start-stop on. Here's what I got. I can draw a number of conclusions from this. 1. It works - I got c5mpg more than I would have expected. So about a 8%-10% improvement. 2. The coast function is much more noticeable than I expected. I'd always thought the engine braking in Normal mode was minimal, but the difference is clear. 3. ACC in sport mode (my usual setting) is great. 4. This morning represents the most miserable, depressing and frustrating hour I've spent in the car since I bought it. 5. I still hate the start-stop function. 6. I won't willingly do this again any time soon. Life is far too short. 7. The car owes me 5mpg of fun - and I intend to collect with interest on the way home.
  3. Damn you @Zenbasses. You do understand I will be sitting at exactly 56mph tomorrow in Eco, trying to eke out just one more mpg. Just one. All because of you. Just you. I hope you are satisfied. B*st*rd.
  4. The file you download will be a zip file. On the PC it needs to be extracted - for PC there is an extraction tool (can't remember what mine is called, but it is something like zip7 on windows10). Then you can transfer the extracted folders to your SD card. Have a look at the thread I linked to or do a search. There are full instructions for windows and mac.
  5. Downloaded files should be c25Gb, so something isn't right. Are you using windows or mac? This thread may help. Don't be deterred if it doesn't work first time. It will eventually. Good luck.
  6. Agreed. And you have evidence that the original fault, which was not repaired satisfactorily, occurred during the warranty period. As such it's their problem to fix.
  7. Lots on here and in the "performance upgrade" section on pedal boxes and re-maps. Or, as I do, just flick the DSG lever into Sport when you want a quicker getaway.
  8. This is the most important point of all. FWIW my driving is 90% motorway and I like the extra mid-range oomph I perceive (subjectively) it gives me. Interestingly I was never even considering a 190 until this particular car came on the market - and I would very happily consider and realistically will almost certainly have a 150 next time. My previous Mk2 was a 140 and I never once felt it to be under-powered. Also FWIW I would not go back to manual having had DSG, regardless of engine size. Again, completely subjective on my part. In short, you have a really nice "problem" with a win-win outcome. Enjoy solving it!
  9. My recommendation is to try both. FWIW my TDI190 blows me away on a daily basis. It's not the quickest away from the line, but from 30-80 it's fabulous. At 50+ mpg. Put simply - you will be delighted by either 150 or 190. DSG on the 190 is a joy, as is the sport setting for the gearbox. It's a cracking car.
  10. Terrific results. Really impressive. Would you mind writing up how you did it for anyone with a similar issue? Thanks .
  11. I have a 190DSG, though mine is MY17. I don't really feel it engage when moving from P to D, and definitely no thud. I also don't get a thud in-gear, however hard I push it. Sounds like you need to speak to your dealer again. Good luck with it.
  12. I wish! Seriously though, enjoy. I've just got home from sampling some fine Welsh back roads on my way to the M4. Big stupid grin still plastered all over my face. Brilliant, brilliant car.
  13. Finally!!! Congratulations Colin. Now get some pics up!
  14. A trip to the bankruptcy court when he has to fill it up twice a week?
  15. The short answer is no. Mine has the Columbus and I have not noticed any increase in ACC braking. I'm interested to see whether others have found this though.
  16. Really like that @Steviedakota and thinking of doing the same on mine (plus the side pockets which ISTR you also did). Did you use a contact adhesive to hold it down?
  17. Sorry @Zenbasses, I missed this one. A couple of alarm bells are ringing. If your car is on variable, the time limit is two years, not one. So you shouldn't be seeing a message. That makes me suspicious that they have put it onto fixed, as @Roottootemoot suggested. Worth checking out when you take it in. Ref DSG, I have a (possibly wrong) memory in my head that the oil should be changed at 40k. I'm sure someone will correct me if I got that wrong.
  18. I had a look at mine this morning. Had to remind myself how I did it, so here's a short guide. Mine is MY17, but I guess it will be the same for all. Press the "Mode" button next to the DSG lever. Then select "Individual" on the screen. Press the "Change" softkey and select ACC to Sport. Select Individual from the mode settings (if it isn't already selected). ACC will now respond more quickly and with stronger acceleration as the car in front pulls away. I find it works quite well, though like @BillyJim I sometimes encourage it with a dab of throttle.
  19. You can set an "individual" setting that increases the rate of acceleration under ACC. Not near the car right now, but happy to look tomorrow and explain how to set it up. It's very effective .
  20. Congratulations on the new car. I'd be interested in a write-up once you have had chance to get used to it.
  21. @Penpusher - my work now requires me to turn left rather than right at the top of the M32, and I have been spending a lot of very enjoyable time in the Principality. I might just investigate some slightly less direct routes home... SWMBO is originally from Prague and she has been pestering me to do the journey by car for a while (we spend about 4 months a year there as we have work there, but it is usually spread into short, regular periods so we fly usually). Having endured rather too many low-cost flights, I'm planning on taking the Superb the next time we are there for more than a couple of weeks. @freelunch - I can certainly empathise with that. I had a wonderful A6 when I lived in West London. I doubt it averaged much more than 20mph when not on the M25 (I was working in Sutton at the time).
  22. Just to add a bit of food for thought to the "thinking of a change" threads... Holibobs meant I didn't get to drive mine for the best part of three weeks. What a joy to get back into it! Wafting down the motorway, comfort and quiet, Canton doing its thing, DSG and all the driver aids making the journey a doddle. I got out of the car fresher than I got into it. On the way home I got the dreaded call. SWMBO. "Get some groceries". Now this isn't my favourite message usually, but a little voice was whispering in my other ear. "She didn't say where to get them. There's a brilliant independent ten miles up that nice twisty road. Take the next junction." Surprised at my sudden enthusiasm for grocery shopping, SWMBO rang off. Sport mode engaged. Not quite full hooligan, but certainly at the top end of "making progress". The road is the absolute sweet-spot for the 190TDI; quick acceleration from 30-70, sure-footed under heavy braking and into corners. Ridiculously good for a car of this size and weight, and certainly well beyond my very average driving skills. Got home with a huge grin on my face. SWMBO - "you forgot the cheese". Me - "Don't worry sweetness - I'll get it tomorrow". Of course I didn't tell her where I would be getting it from. Like I said - I'd forgotten just how much I love this car.
