  1. I live in the middle of the old city (BS1). I'm delighted by our mayor's environmentally-friendly and far-reaching eco-warrior stance. If it gets implemented (it won't BTW) I already have approval from SWMBO to replace my 190TDI with a 272TSI!
  2. My experience in the 190TDI also. My summer consumption is 55mpg pretty much without fail. Same route every day, 90% motorway. Now I'm seeing 50. As well as winter diesel, the convenience consumers will be using more fuel than in summer. Same thing last year. Around town it reduces to less than 40. So I could believe that kind of drop. I doubt it is anything sinister, though I am sorry to hear about the other problems the OP has had.
  3. Glad I am not planning to change my car for a while as I don't like the look of any of the new wheel choices for the new L&K. If they haven't improved the choice by the time I do change it, I will ask to have my current Pegasus 18s swapped onto the new one.
  4. Oh no! Having updated mine to 2020 I now have map envy just two weeks later .
  5. Interesting. Mine feels similar, though 190 TDI DSG rather than manual. I've put it down to one or a combination of the following: - winter diesel (it isn't so good on MPG so I assume also not so good for performance, though I have absolutely no evidence to back this up). - non-premium diesel (last tank was non-premium due to lack of availability where I filled up). - cold weather (counter-intuitive to me since my ICE studies suggest I should get better performance in the cold due to denser air, but apparently not so for modern turbo cars) - impatience on my part. I really don't like driving in the dark and find myself pushing it to get where I am going. My fault and I force myself to take a deep breath and calm down. All of the above may be complete nonsense, but you aren't the only one who feels their car is not performing as well as it did six months ago.
  6. I too had a Mk1 MR2 for a while. Great fun, but winter commutes on untreated rural roads were "interesting" to say the least! I wish I knew as much about driving now as I did when I was 20...
  7. The spec has definitely changed over time. There isn't an "L&K plus" as per the Sportline, but the recent facelift has introduced things like virtual cockpit for example. AFAIK the pano roof has never been standard on the L&K - my 2017 model certainly doesn't have it. But things like the heated wheel etc have been added as standard to newer models. If you are looking at a second hand one from a dealer they should be able to send you a spec sheet which will tell you exactly what is on the car you are looking at. If buying new, the configurator will show you all available options, while the owners manual, available online, will tell you everything there is on the car - badly explained via a game of international Chinese whispers between the Czech Republic, Germany and the UK.
  8. So you are saying that all the money I spent on the "genuine Tim Peake astronaut suit, one careful owner" on Ebay was wasted? And that I could have driven with the window open an inch and not had to worry about explosive decompression? This weekend just keeps getting worse... To the OP, the Rest function might come in handy if the car is warm. It will re-circulate the warm air for 30 minutes after you switch off the engine.
  9. Something is definitely wrong. I tested mine when I got it and 1.5 metres is the absolute maximum distance where I could get it to open. Just a thought (and not meaning to sound disrespectful) but is it possible you've left one of the spare keys in the car? It would also be worth checking if it starts as well as unlocking. On mine, if I stand outside the car and try to start it with my left foot on the brake, it gives a "key out of range" warning and will not start.
  10. Updated the maps database to 2020 version. Worked fine after a false start on downloading to the PC. I'll find out on Monday if it now knows that the toll gates on the M4 in Wales have been removed . Edit to add: it still thinks the toll gates are there...
  11. I'm a huge fan of the ACC / Lane Assist / Active Lane Guidance combo, for all the reasons above. Another one I'd throw in the mix is the Blind Spot Monitor. Put them all together and it's a massive help in maintaining awareness of everything that is going on around you. I have subtly changed my driving style as a result of having these features (I put up a thread about it a while back) and I can't see myself ever going back to a car without them. And ACC in "Sport" is great .
  12. There are three types of infotainment system for the Superb, as I understand it, and that might be more relevant to your decision. Bolero is the basic unit and (someone please correct if I am wrong) doesn't have satnav. I believe it is only installed on the "S" model. Columbus is the highest spec and is the one installed in my L&K. There is also an Amundsen version which sits somewhere between the two. I had it on my 2013 Mk2 Superb with satnav. The main practical difference I found was that on the Mk2 Amundsen I couldn't update the maps database myself, whereas I can with the Columbus (not sure if that is also true for the Mk3 Amundsen though). I think there are also differences in the hardware attached to them. My Columbus unit, in the glove compartment) has facility for two SD cards but no SIM slot (came in later - MY2019?). I'm not sure what you get with the Bolero or Amundsen. I also have the upgraded Canton stereo and I think this is only available with the Columbus unit. My Columbus display has two physical knobs and eight physical buttons (June 2017). It's physically bigger than the one on my Mk2, and I think it's great (pic below). The newer ones are all soft buttons, but I've never tried it so can't comment. Good luck with the search.
  13. What's your journey profile @Awed? One of the biggest advantages of the Superb for me is that if anything goes wrong at 70mph on the motorway (due to my mistake or anyone elses) I will have two tonnes of protection wrapped around me. SWMBO will be needing a town car soon and a Fabia is high on the shortlist as it looks like a really decent car. But - whether it is good sense or just paranoia - I wouldn't want her mixing it with juggernauts in one.
  14. Sorry to hear that. I would try using a show glaze then a good wax to try to give the colour some depth. My car is quartz grey so I can't make any recommendations based on experience - hopefully someone will be able to. On mine I use Poorboys World Black Hole Show Glaze, which is recommended for dark cars and I love the effect. The thread below gives quite a few that you might want to try. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/414213-glazes/ You could then put a really deep shine wax over the top. The thread below gives some examples. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/432158-really-deep-gloss-shine-required/ Hope it helps
  15. The last two posts take me back. I lived in west London and worked in central London / City for 15 years. Never once even thought about using the car to commute, despite the smelly, overcrowded and stupidly expensive Met line. Reckon my mileage in those days was c5k per annum. I just couldn't face the thought of crawling in that traffic (no TJA then). In other news, our Mayor has proposed as his latest wizard wheeze to save the world that all diesel cars including Euro6 should be banned from the city centre (where I live). So what I did to my Superb today was to plan the argument that I have no choice but to sell it and buy a 280 TSI version. Mr Mayor said so!
  16. Do you slide your way out of the car? There was a thread on here back along where this was the cause. Check out the car care section of the site. Lots of tips on caring for the seats.
  17. While I have a bit of minor creasing to the right hand side of the seat pan, there is little to no wear and definitely no cracking. I give mine a going over with Auto Glym leather cleaner and leather balm twice a year. Mine has done similar mileage to yours.
  18. Almost everyone Mickey. Usually an unnoticed push of the (slightly raised) boot button on the key fob, often while it is in your pocket. Managed to open mine once while jetwashing it. Not a mistake I will make again in a hurry...
  19. Don't forget to swap it out when you get your third facelift!
  20. I did a DIY job, as shown in this thread below. Works a treat and cost c£25.00.
