  1. The thing is my experience with the DSG (I've had the 6 speed and now the 7 speed) is that when accelerating slowing like this that there is an element of clutch slip used to smooth it out. Hence why premature where of the clutches can occur if you do lots of city, traffic and start stop driving (just like a manual gearbox). I'dbe interested to know how it drives if you actually just set off and drive off up to the speed limit.
  2. It's technically "sealed for life". But im going to be changing mine at some point. I don't believe in sealed for life. Even in manual gearboxes (which is what the 7 speed is in reality). The gearboxes also has 2 oils in it. The actual gearbox oil and then the mechatronics. They are sealed from eachother and completely different types of oil. You need 2 litres for the gearbox (G052171A2) and 1 litre for the mechatronics (G004000M2). Just a case of draining and refilling.
  3. It was a 1 mile 3 minute journey. So not a real indication of fuel economy.
  4. Welcome. I used to live in York. I still have family in the Dewsbury/Leeds area. I've always found it silly that the Columbus never had integrated Bluetooth. In order to add factory Bluetooth you need a harness, microphone (that fits in the interior light) and a Bluetooth module.
  5. Holland hast introduced a 100km/h limit between 6am and 7pm. The main goal is to reduced co2 emissions in the country. If you think of all the cars driving on the motorways all saving several MPG (or fewer l/100km as it's measured there).
  6. It's sometimes nice to have a digital readout of the exact speed. The needle can look like 30mph for instance but the actual speed is 28 or 32 for example.
  7. Really you should be driving the car the same as the DSG shifts since this is programmed to both achieve maximum fuel economy but also with mechanical sympathy in mind. So on the flat and with low load/very gradual acceleration it's perfectly fine it get into as higher gear as possible. But as soon as you're going up hill and/or wanting to accelerate past tickling the throttle then you should be shifting down a gear or two.
  8. My Speedo is in km/h and the digital is also in km/h. Then I have the ability to add a 2nd speed display in the Maxidot setting which appears above the ambient temp display at the bottom as mph. They should have done it the same for the UK model too.
  9. And by the way. I've just been out in my car. Although a different car and engine I also have the 7 speed DSG. I drove up a long slight hill at one point. Where the car would normally be in 6th gear at 50km/h it stayed in 4th for the entire time until it leveled off again.
  10. With stricter diesel emissions, higher taxes, higher purchase prices and diesels not being suited to short journeys, petrols, hybrids and electric cars are becoming more popular here in Germany too. Obviously the whole VW diesel scandal has also put many people off. And all the old diesels are bought cheap and shipped off to Poland etc.
  11. Yeah. Probably just needed some time to realise that everything was ok again.
  12. VCDS is by far the best. But comes down to your budget.
  13. It's strange to hear of a 2019 diesel car with no DPF and a Euro 4 engine! But I suppose the rules aren't as strict over there Vs Europe. In Europe even petrol cars are getting particle filters now!
  14. And as for the shift points of the gearbox there is more taken into account than just throttle position: Throttle position, engine load, hill gradient, engine revs, vehicle speed, engine temperature, DPF soot level (regen currently occuring etc), battery voltage, AC load etc etc.
  15. I really don't think this is a problem. There are more factors involved than just how much power is required to climb a hill. Yes the car probably could climb the hill in the next gear up, but they're not tuned that way (from a software point). The whole point is that keeping it in a higher gear can labour the engine, increase soot into the DPF, Put extra Stress on gearbox and clutches etc etc. It's just like driving a manual where you would change down a gear to go up a hill or should do). The gearbox does in fact also use the inclination sensor. When driving down hills it's will also downshift to increase engine braking and reduced the need to use the brakes. I believed the coasting function that some DSGs have is also disabled while going down hill.
  16. I once checked my oil on my previous Octavia 1.9 TDI before setting off to Germany from York. Drove down via Dover, did 100mph+ on the Autobahn, and drove around a couple of days (total of about 800 miles later) and checked the oil again to discover I'd left the cap off! Was a bit of oil splatter but it was fine. Bought a new cap from a local car place, topped up by a tiny bit and all was well. The warning light and judder is due to the engine sucking in air where it shouldn't. So there is suddenl more air entering that hasn't come via the air flow sensor so the ECU is confused and puts a warning up.
  17. Oh and currently averaging 6.9l/100km (41mpg). I'm more than happy with this since the Saab was always awful on fuel (very heavy and all to tempting to use the power paired with the fairly inneficient torque converter box). The Saab was averaging 8.9l/100km (31mpg!). I've also been using E10 petrol since that's available here. Have noticed zero difference in fuel economy or power. I've even seen as low as 5.3l/100km on a steady 70km run (53mpg).
  18. Footwell lighting fitted and wired into the factory pin on the CECM: IMG_20200728_192509 by Philip Embleton, auf Flickr I've taken the decision to have a go at fitting the Pioneer F77DAB I have. Ive ordered the new dash tirm from China. Going to replace the roof aerial with a passive version and then use a DAB/FM splitter. I just need a canbus adapter to save the hassle of using a switched live and trying to find the wires for dash lighting etc. Ive already installed a Phoscon microfone in the interior light (since this has a standard 3.5mm plug on it) and ordered a 3.5 to 2.5mm adapter to go into the back of the stereo.
  19. I must admit that looks really nice. Very interested to hear of your experience with.
  20. Ah yes. They have some sort of mechanism called Easy Fuel. It's also a capless design so no fuel cap to screw on and off. Depending of the nozzle inserted it either opens or doesn't. So it's no possible to fill with the wrong fuel.
  21. Ignore your friend. That will have a 6 speed DQ250. Oil and filter required every 4 years or 40k Miles whichever comes sooner.
  22. Which engine and gearbox is it?
  23. DQ200 is the gearbox number. Referring to the 7 speed dry clutch DSG.

  25. So I ordered this kit. https://www.ebay.de/itm/153496859670 I obviously didn't read properly as they have integrated LEDs. All fitted and working 😁👍
