Service Costs - Confused or Naive
there's nothing wrong with diy servicing, if you have the ability to do it, you save a few quid and you know the works been done right. which is more than can be said when you leave your pride and joy in there supposively capaable hands 😂 skoda want cars to be serviced for warranty claims, so the cars been serviced and it's been done properly, so what's the problem ?

Personalised Plates... Cool, or Sad?
no, but if you buy a 10 year old car with original plate, then change plate to a private plate which gives no indication of cars age, ie SAD 999 or JC 5564 etc

Personalised Plates... Cool, or Sad?
a lot of people who buy a private plate, do it to try to hide the age of the car , ie buy a 10 year + old car and then make sure the plate goes on it before they drive it home, just in case the neighbours see it's real age sad sad sad

no, thought over £40k tax applied to all cars 😀

Service Costs - Confused or Naive
i think garages probably get away with more with company/fleet cars, although it happens with private owners as well if you let them away with it. it's just easier for them with fleet stuff as question rarely get asked, almost like a blank chequebook.

Service Costs - Confused or Naive
whats the biggest fraud though someone knocking up a fake invoice/ receipt or a garage that charges a customer for work/parts they never used or done sometimes ya gotta just play them at there own game 😎

yes there's lots of unknowns, i think electric cars will probably gets cheaper, whether that is with manufacturers reducing prices or government discounts, who knows. maybe the government will slap an extra tax on new petrol and diesel cars, to effectively force buyers into electric as you say it's all a bit of a mess, new car buyers are being given over optimistic delivery dates and if you are not prepared to wait , you have to pay way over the odds for a second hand car and the value of that 2nd hand car will drop like a stone when things get back to normal. i was thinking about this scenario the other day, you sign up for a new car which has a list price with extras of say £39k, your told 8 or 9 months delivery time, during this time, manufacturers increase prices [ which is probably gonna happen ] , taking the car above £40k list, you would probably still get the car for the original agreed price [ maybe] but you'd get hit with the extra road tax cost which over 5 or 6 years ownership would cost near enough another £2k and you'd be unable to get out of the contract as extra road tax cost nothing to do with the manufacturer 😂

Service Costs - Confused or Naive
you could do a diy service, then you'd would know it was done right, plus you'd save a few quid, but more importantly you'd know it was done right then knock up an invoice/receipt from A&A autos with vat registered no etc , in the event of a warranty claim do you think they'd check ?, for a big warranty claim maybe they would, but smaller warranty claims, dealers probably would just repair, they're getting paid off skoda anyway. just a thought, if you could find a garage that recently stopped trading, knock up an invoice for a service from them, how could skoda prove the service was'nt done, if garage no longer in business, just make sure you do the service correctly and use genuine parts .

Delivery Delays
great news, it seems like most superbs are taking 6/7 months from ordering to delivery [ at the moment 😂 ] i've heard it said that skoda might be prioritising ev/iv over ice cars to meet emission targets, but i'm not sure if any truth in that. i read recently that a petrol/ diesel ford focus uses 300 or so chips but an electric version has up to 3000 chips so if its true that they are prioritising ev's , no wonder there's a shortage of microchips 😂. surely it's better to get up to 10 cars finished than just 1
-
1 in 5 EV buyers change back to ICE because of hassle.
https://techxplore.com/news/2021-04-electric-car-owners-revert-gasoline-powered.html a bit concerning giving that electric vehicles work better in a hot climate ie better range etc if 20% off buyers in california giving up on electric cars , maybe even higher in the uk?

Delivery Delays
yes it must be costing them a few quid, i think it makes sense for them to finish the cars that are sitting waiting for parts first though [ if they can get the parts ] as it will bring in some £££ and the cars that are half finished will probably be for the buyers who have waited the longest.
-
Delivery Delays
To be fair to skoda and skoda dealers, it's difficult to give delivery dates when your short of parts and dont know when the parts will arrive. they must be getting a certain amount of microchips because production has continued, all be it on a reduced capacity. there comes a time though when a lot of buyers will be thinking f00k it, i'm waiting no more, cancel my order, i want my deposit back 😂 The bosses at skoda know that most people will not wait forever, so maybe they are trying to prioritise any one who has waited 6 months or so, and at least give them some news that they want to hear, like your cars just about to be built, hang in there it will be with you soon 😃 even if it's false hope i believe the factories are closed for new builds at the moment, and giving that they normally build 1000+ or so cars per day, i cant see anyway delivery dates will be accurate, 1000+ cars per day = 7000+ cars per week, so around 30.000 would have been built cars lost every month, if factory closed till christmas, that's alot of backlog. however things might change with increased deliveries of chips 😎

Full Sized Tyre as Spare
i would'nt worry to much about the offset, its only for temporary use and does'nt need to be exact, and most vw/ skoda offsets are around 40 - 46 mm anyway

Servicing - Franchise Dealer or Independent (North West Location)
obd 11 is cheap and will do everything and more any diyer will every need to do, including winding motors for rear brake pad changing
-
Servicing - Franchise Dealer or Independent (North West Location)
Giving that the car is out of warranty, and if you intend on keeping it for a good length of time, i'd recommend diy, not only will you save a few quid, but more importantly you'll know that it has been done right 😃 buy a generic service book from ebay for a couple of ££ and stamp it yourself, and keep all the receipts for oil, filters etc when the time comes to sell the car, you'll be able to show all receipts etc, remember buyers can also easily check mot history online as well, which proves mileage and any work done to get through an mot. if i was buying your car, i'd be much happier with a diy service history plus previous mot history checks, than a full main dealer or independent garage fully stamped service book.

Extending Superb iV's electric range
theres no real saving with a phev that only does 20 mile per charge, even if you only do short trips, you have the cost of the electricity to charge, plus the car costs more to buy than a ice, so you have to break even first before theres any gain. you might as well put the car into sport mode and have some fun 😀 if you use sport mode, surely though there must be a difference in battery range against battery only mode, so you've gained something
-
Extending Superb iV's electric range
i dont know much about the iv, but from what i've read, if you use the sport mode, does it not run on battery and engine and does this not extend the range of the battery ? if you only get 20 or so miles running on battery only, does the battery not last longer when it's getting some help from the engine, plus you get the benefit of extra power

Delivery Delays
i'd imagine the superb is a totally different car to drive than the focus st, should be a lot more comfortable and no engine noise probably seems strange till you get used to it. Good to hear your happy with the dealer, i've just ordered a superb from them and will probably collect but it's a 400 mile or so trip for me 😂 and great yarmouth is a bit awkward to get to as well i could get them to drive the car to stansted airport, as flights from glasgow can be had for under £30 , just not keen on an unknown driving my brand new car for 100 miles or so 😂

New owner of a FL Superb Sportline iV
nice car, looks really good in race blue i dont believe you can do any coding on 2020 cars, i could be wrong though
-
Delivery Delays
it seems to be an all to common problem, scratches and swirl marks on new cars after dealer prep. some buyers tell the dealer to keep the protective wrappings on the car and dont wash it, then you can remove the wrapping yourself for inspection before paying them. Hope the long wait was worth it though, just been quoted today 7 1/2 months wait for a new superb sportline diesel, Think i'll still order the car though, as did'nt want it till march anyway, so only an extra couple of months, but it would.nt surprise me if 7 1/2 months is a bit optimistic 😂

Superb IV - L&K 1 year on
i've never seen the point of an iv, if i was going electric, it would be fully electric as better range with an iv the car is always on a charge and if you dont charge it, you might as well have a diesel or petrol as it costs you more to run as car is heavier. iv cars are dearer to buy as well, so not for me

stop/start button on 2021 models
yea, the unnecessary wear on engine etc is a concern, at least the superb has a proper stop/start button so you have something to alter. the latest octavia does'nt have a button for stop/start, it's buried deep in the menus, so no chance of doing anything, the next superb in 2023 will almost certainly be button less stop/start 😂

stop/start button on 2021 models
i've had a few vag cars and i always coded it off, my caddy van with dsg is also turned off, i just cant get used to it. sometimes you stop for a second and the engine cuts out, a second later its time to go, so engine starts, but you've saved nothing in fuel and put unnecessary wear on the starter/ battery etc

stop/start button on 2021 models
i've had another look at interior photos and i think i must have been looking at the iv models as they dont seem to have an A off button, but when i look at petrol or diesel models the button is on the right hand side of the console.
