stop/start button on 2021 models
Thinking on ordering a new superb from drivethedeal, can someone with a 2021 model superb tell me if there's an A off button for deactivating the stop /start or is it buried deep in the menu's 😂 Had a look at interior photos but cant see any A off button on the console, i've always just coded stop /start out, but i know coding cant be done on the latest models, however if there's a proper stop /start button , i could use one of those modules from ebay that remembers the last setting. if i cant get s/s permanently off, i might have to look elsewhere for a car 😂

Electric tailgate opens fully, then lowers a bit?
can you not replace struts with manual struts, should be a lot cheaper

Delivery Delays
5 months is ok in the current climate , normally 3 months for factory orders anyway i've noticed that the online discounts have been reduced a bit for new cars, you could get 24% off a superb a few months ago, but thats now down to around 19% i suppose thats still a lot less than the increases we've seen on 2nd hand car prices . Not sure though, , if you order a new car now with say 20% off, will they honour that price in 5 or 6 months time when the car finally arrives, most brokers have small print that says something like, car must arrive by a certain time ie 3 months etc

Thinking of changing car.
if you can do without a car for a bit, it's a good time to sell right now, 2nd hand car prices are higher than they have ever been. the price crash will come at some point and anyone buying right now is gonna lose a small fortune 😂 As an example, over the last 6 months, a £20k car is now selling for £24k+, with the usual depreciation that same car would normally have falling in valve to around £18k or less, so anyone buying a £20k 2nd hand right now, is paying £6k - £7k over the top 😂 😂 😂

SEL-Exec Combi tdi 4x4 … not happy with 19” wheels!!!
yes 17" wheels better for comfort, i dont understand why manufacturers keep going bigger & bigger every year with wheels/tyres on family cars, might be alright on a smooth race track but not ideal for the potholed roads thats the norm nowadays. i can remember when 13" & 14" wheels was the normal on most new cars tyres will obviously be cheaper and if your diy minded, you can even change 55 series tyres yourself, no chance of doing that with 35 series

Delivery Delays
i'd be more concerned that VAG / skoda might start sourcing inferior chips from china. they'll be desperate to get cars moving to free up space and bring in the £££, so maybe likely to buy from anyone who can supply

EGR & DPF Failure (3rd Time)
diesel engines are ok for low mileage short distance users, but you need to get used to the routine required and stick to it. i've a diesel caddy van 2 years old, 10.000 miles on the clock, so only doing 5,000 miles a year and all town driving ie short journeys . regens are every 180 miles or so, so after a regen, i set the trip to 0, i now know roughly when the next regen will be due. i use the vag dpf app on my phone, so i can watch the regen taking place before and after. The thing is with regens, you cant force it to happen, it wont happen until the dpf is 99 - 100& full, a lot of people think you can just take the car for a run every now and then and all will be fine, but it does'nt work like that, all you would be doing is wasting time and money by going for a run when it's not ready to regen. it can be a pain in the @rse at times, but you do get used to it. in my 2 years of driving the van , i've never had a warning light come on

Delivery Delays
yea, you dont see many 21 plate cars on the road or at dealers, and 2nd hand car prices are at an all time high, some 2nd hand car prices have risen 2-3 grand in the last month or so. it's a good time to sell if you have 2 cars and can sit & wait for the inevitable crash the strange thing is, you can still get 23% off the list price of a new superb, l wonder how long that will last

EGR & DPF Failure (3rd Time)
are you saying you've had 3 egr valves and 3 dpf in 75.000 miles, so a new dpf & egr valve every 25,000 miles ? a lot of people would delete and remap after the 1st failure costly business if having to fork out ££££ every 25k miles

DM Keith - Importance of air con service vs brake fluid change
i dont buy this brake fluid needs to be changed at 3 years old, my car was 3 year old a couple of days ago, i took a sample out the master cylinder and tested with a £4 tester from ebay, there was not a drop of water in it, so i thought i'll test the pen, i put 1 tiny drop of water in the sample and the tester pen registers 1% water. i then put another drop of water in it and the reading jumped to danger zone 3%, so tester pen working ok. needless to say, i wont be changing any brake fluid

Silikat bag in coolant resorvoir (diesel engines)
you could also remove the bag and had a couple of cartridges, as in the photo above, this should mean the anti freeze wont need change after 5 years. but remember the timing belt and water pump will probably need done before then, so anti freeze will be drained anyway
-
Silikat bag in coolant resorvoir (diesel engines)
if you have the single walled tank then just remove the bag, you only need a new tank if you have a twin walled tank, as bag cant be removed. if you remove the bag on a 3 1/2 year old car, the silica stops doing it's job as it's no longer there, but the anti freeze lasts for 5 years without silica, so you should get 5 years the same as new anti freeze, others may think differently though

Bag in coolant.
1ko 121 407 A is the tank number done a bit of googling and the part no for the cylinders is 4eo 121 176 they call them silicate cartridges, about £12 - £14 at the stealers.
-
Bag in coolant.
a bit strange , the cylinders being replaced by a teabag, seems like a backward step to me ,bags are more likely to burst, like we are seeing
-
Bag in coolant.
has the silicate bag been replaced with the 2 cylinders like in the photo i posted above, if so, maybe vag will sell you the cylinders. coolant would then still be for life and not every 5 years.

Silikat bag in coolant resorvoir (diesel engines)
yes very interesting, and a possible concern, just posted a reply to the link you provided. maybe vag have changed things, my caddy van has 2 cylinders in the tank instead of the teabag
-
Bag in coolant.
just wondering if vag have changed things, photos below of the coolant tank in my caddy van 2019, there's no tea bag but there's 2 cylinders in there.

nearly new or new
bought my caddy van through them 2 years ago, got 6.5k off the list price , had to pick up from london but the saving made it worthwhile. they where good to deal with, no money paid to them at all, paid a small deposit to dealer when ordering and payed balance when collecting van. i believe the prices they quote include free delivery but imo better to collect yourself

nearly new or new
what i'm saying though, is there's no need to take a chance on a demo car, and you always take a chance when you buy a 2nd hand car. you can get £10k of a new superb through a broker at the moment and you can choose any colour you want https://www.autoebid.com/new-cars/Skoda/Superb/SportLine-Plus-uk-deals
-
nearly new or new
pre-reg cars with no miles can be good buys, usually heavily discounted and with the added bonus of being available without having to wait 3 months or so for a factory build. personally i would'nt touch a dealer demo car, i believe they have to keep them for 3 months min before they can sell them on, by that time they usually have at least 6k miles and have been driven by every tom, d1ck and harry on test drives, plus the salesmen/women who take the car home every night and dont give a $hit because the cars not there's and will be sold onto some unsuspecting fool who thinks he's got a good deal, but in reality, he could have got a pre-reg with no miles or a new car discount from a broker even cheaper.

Skoda Superb DSG vs VW Passat DSG
you can easily remove the lag when pulling away with a dsg, and no need to use sport mode. vcds or obd 11 - steering assist - adaptations - driving profile switchover - change incremental to direct pulls away like a manual box now
-
New car battery time
there's been lots of battery failures across the vag range, all moll batteries around 2018, had mine replaced at less than 2 years old with no quibbles

diesel fuel filter replacement - Skoda superb mk3 2.0
as you say, the filter doesnt need to be replaced until 60k miles, so warranty not effected if not done. the warranty could be effected though if you diy, unless you use the same make of filter as the factory use. i believe vag use mann or bosch filters, cost at eurocarparts is £30 - £35, so not a great saving. when i replace i just fill the canister with diesel before tightening the lid back on, prevents any airlocks. personally i think about 30k miles is about the right time to change the fuel filter
