vRS 245 Performance Gauges In Infotainment
Kenai replied to SmokinJoeFrazier's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
ODIS (Offline Diagnosis Information System I believe) is generally considered to be 'dealership level' software and while it's available outside of the dealership network it's not considered a DIY thing, it's much more specialist. FeC is a Feature Enable Code, which is (as I understand it) what is applied via ODIS to enable the sports dials. Having them in my car as standard I can safely say they're absolutely not worth going to any hassle or expenditure to add them. -
vRS 245 Performance Gauges In Infotainment
Kenai replied to SmokinJoeFrazier's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
When the two most popular tools in VCDS and OBDeleven both refer to the process as 'long coding' (as distinct from setting adaptation channels) I think it's safe to say everyone knows what is meant by coding when referring to making modifications on VAG group cars. I've never seen anyone else ever refer to the process as unlocking rather than coding or long coding. Nor do people frequently actually delve into raw software code to modify that, so there's no potential for confusion about what is being asked for or what is being carried out. It's an entirely unnecessary 'correction'. -
For me, the fact the 245 can return 40mpg+ when I need it to be a dependable mile muncher but also turn it's hand to being a fairly fun 'performance car' (as far as a family car with a bigger engine and stiff suspension can be) is its real party piece. It is very difficult to beat as an all rounder for the money.

I'm at 39mpg over 30,000 ish in my ownership, so close but not quite 40.

Current VW maps will display as 2020/21 now I believe (1430 in the filename). (Edit - this just prompted me to go and download them and they are indeed 20/21 on the VW site now) I had the 2020 maps (1310 filename) in June from VW. As @bigade1 suggested earlier, the Skoda portal generally seems to offer up maps 5 or 6 months after they're available from VW.
-
Unfortunately, not correct. The FL 230 (and even the 184 2.0TDI I think) got those too, as it was facelift change, rather than a 245 change.

All silver exhaust tips tell you is that it's not a launch edition 245 or a 245 Challenge. It could well still be a regular 245bhp vRS.

For starters, stick the registration in something like TotalCarCheck - before you pay for a full check it'll give you info like this: Manufacturer Skoda Model Octavia Vrs 245 Tsi S-A Colour White Vehicle Type Car Fuel Type Petrol Engine Size 1984cc Euro Status 6b BHP 245 BHP

Cam belt change, the truth
Kenai replied to StriderDog's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
If you want the definitive answer, email Skoda UK customer services with your registration, they'll get back to you within a couple of days. I did this recently to confirm the DSG service interval had changed on the newer DQ380 boxes. If you ever had trouble after that, you have it in writing from Skoda themselves, not just a dealer. -
VRS 240 Clouds of steam/smoke
Kenai replied to dirk1978's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Yes, very common on the 2.0tsi, especially so if the car isn't fully warmed up -
Ambient lighting and virtual cockpit

Go to Car, then settings, it's about halfway down the presented options -
Smart link or software update
Kenai replied to Lovepreet's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
It should only be around £150 which is pretty good value to permanently enable AndroidAuto and Apple Carplay. Of course if you have no intention to use these systems then it's not good value but presumably @Lovepreet is expecting to actually use them. It's especially good value when you compare to a manufacturer like BMW who are now charging £85 per year (or £295 permanent) for just Carplay. -
Oil Level. 245 MKIII Vrs
Kenai replied to Auric Goldfinger's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
You're supposed to measure when up to temperature but left for 'a few minutes' (to quote the user manual) for the oil to return to the sump, then dip it. Mine doesn't use oil either. -
As standard the manufacturer warranty is 2 years unlimited mileage / 3 years 60,000 miles. The from new manufacturer extensions are 4yr 80,000 and 5yr 100,000 I think.
-
As above, definitely if you'll keep it. When purchased new it's also the full manufacturer backed warranty being extended unlike the 'extended warranty' you can buy at 3 years old.

Confusion over servicing requirements
Kenai replied to BucksLad's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
How did you pay out of interest? Last time I tried it turned down all of my various credit and debit cards? -
It works using a camera, I'm not surprised fog confuses the hell out of it

Galaxy S10+, Oneplus 7 T Pro compatibility
Kenai replied to TheWanderer's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
S10 works seamlessly for me, via BT, via USB for AA and running Bixby routines to launch a WiFi Hotspot whenever it detects it has connected to the car BT. -
Other way round, while it still reads 70mph you'll actually be doing 71.09mph. That is of course subject to the built in inaccuracy @Roottootemoot mentioned earlier. Your speedo legally has to ensure it doesn't under read so they're factory set to over read slightly. In reality it'll just bring your speedo closer to reading what you're actually travelling.
