  1. There is a 1.6L diesel variant available over here.
  2. I can see why you'd find it lacking. The 2.0TSi is a better proposition in comparison, but not very economical.
  3. On the face of it, it does seem strange, but so do many other things that Skoda (and probably others too) are doing lately. It is doubtless financially driven, either because excluding it saves money, or offering it as an option earns them more money.
  4. Go to VEHICLE, then press SETTINGS and on that page is what we see in your picture. If you don't see that in your vehicle, I'm guessing that maybe the SE version doesn't have that function. Owners manuals are usually generic and all the info in them doesn't apply to all specs.

First off, updates don't come via the dealer, they arrive over the air waves courtesy of the embedded e sim in the car. They are available twice a year and you have to be signed up to Skoda Connect to receive them. This is payable after the first free year. Like you I haven't had a chance to use the sat nav much as I've only just bought the car, but I doubt a map update would make the system much more user friendly. If it's giving you the runaround, it's more likely to be that you haven't exercised your options in the sat nav menu.
  6. I'm firmly in this camp too. Go to your test drives with a open mind and drive as many variants as you can. Forums are good for collecting data, but it's down to you to sift through that data and decide what's best for you.
  7. Yep, I've just discovered that I have that option on my SE L so the OP should have it as well. I hadn't noticed it in the settings, but I've just been out and a message flashed up on the dash that my lights were set for right hand driving. Upon checking they weren't, but at least I now know the facility is there. Must get out more !!!

Until the next time your phone has an update if that's true. Hardly worth bothering with I would have thought as it's hardly an issue.
  9. So two wrongs make a right in your world then . You should quit now before you make yourself look any dafter than you do already.
  10. Skoda might be Simply Clever, but they're Simply Not that clever
  11. Well fingers etc crossed that the reboot continues to work. People forget that often the fix isn't as complicated as first thought and always try the simple things first. Half the time an IT person is summoned, the first thing they'll try is a simple reboot - easy money sometimes. Now the answer to your second question and you'll owe me a pint after this cos it will work. Go to your car and switch the ignition on, let the screen light up and then turn the ignition off again. When you do this your total mileage will appear at the bottom right of the digital dash screen. I'm surprised it's not also in the infotainment screen data as well, but if it is , I've failed to find it.
  12. Very late to the party here, but unless you plan on doing night driving in France I wouldn't bother with light adjustment. Be interesting to hear from the OP about tow bars and whether he was successful.
  13. Is global warming passing you by over there ? How do you breathe with your head so far down in the sand ??

We both have SE L models so you have the facility to do it. It's something you have to set up on the infotainment screen and I think it's in the USERS section, but without going out to check, I'm not certain. Trouble is, I've only just got the car and at present I'm hardly driving it, so I'm not completely familiar with all of the functions and where to find them. I've leaned how to turn off that bloody thing that tries to pull you sideways, which is very annoying. Shame it can't be turned off permanently !!
  15. For the possible benefit of the OP, I can attest that a USB memory stick does work as that's all I've ever used.
  16. Click on this link to the Skoda Portal https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/en-GB Enter your VIN number and follow the instructions. It says to use an SD card, but a USB flash drive will also work. You may also have to use a larger memory one than the 32GB they recommend. Once you've started the download, it will probably take 3 to 4 hours to complete. Once you have it on your computer, transfer it to your memory card/stick, again not a quick process. Once that's complete take the memory to your car and insert it into the appropriate slot then press menu > settings > system information > update software. If doing it on your drive keep the engine running as it can take a while and will flatten your battery. Best way is to go for a drive whilst it's downloading to your car and if you have to stop the car before it's complete, the download will pause and then restart when you restart the car.

I lied !! Just been out in the car and I had the same message as you come up. It also said something like ' you can protect yourself by creating an S pin, so that tells me that the one I created I must have cancelled to stop me having to enter it every time the screen fires up. I expect you've done similar and it just proves that we really haven't quite got to grips with this technology yet. I didn't investigate further today cos I've just got home from an hour long tooth extraction and a G & T was beckoning me into the house .
  18. How strange is that ! With my 2018 Kodiaq I had Skoda Connect free for a year and never received any updates of any kind and the only way that map updates could be done was to download them from the Skoda Portal and then transfer them to the car via SD card or flash drive.

So you don't feel unloved in light of the fact you've had no replies, I thought I'd reply but I can't be much help as I haven't experienced your problem. However, both myself and wife have changed our cars recently, mine a Kamiq and hers a Golf 8, so very similar infotainment systems. When I was going through the settings i came across the S pin setting, (which is optional - you don't have to set one) and I set one. Every time I switched on after that the system wanted me to input my S pin before the system could work. This was a bit tedious, so I clicked on the little icon that says something like 'remember me' or similar (sorry, I can't remember exactly what it says) and since then it doesn't require an S pin each time and the screen greets me with a hello and my name as I've set myself up as the primary user. I did the same in my wifes car after that and hers does the same and neither car gives us any 'unprotected' messages, so I'd respectfully suggest that you haven't set your system up correctly or you have a fault. If you find you have to visit your dealer to sort this out, my experience is that you're generally better off asking for the head technician as the front of house rarely know everything.
  20. Your car will come with an embedded e sim wired into the electronic circuitry. If you sign up to Skoda Connect when you get the car (free for the first year and payable thereafter) you will get updates inc mapping direct to your infotainment system. I'm guessing that important updates will still have to be done by your dealer, but the more generic ones will come to you. How comprehensive the map updates will be is currently up for discussion on other pages here, but there is currently talk that Skoda will reintroduce downloading from the Skoda Portal manually, which is how I had to do it in my 2018 Kodiaq.
  21. The way these things happen is changing/has changed, so you need to state how old your car is.
  22. My apologies, I was getting you mixed up with Jelugs. Told you brain had turned to mush after all that reading
