Windscreen decontamination and Dumb Question
Will boiling hot water risk causing cracking ? I used to use hot water from the tap (not boiling) to clear my windscreen on frosty mornings and ended up with a small (but getting bigger) crack in both bottom corners. I know it's not quite the same as pouring hot water onto a frozen windscreen but I'm wondering if the relative temperature differences would be similar, Eg... Zero degrees with 55 degree hot tap water added vs let's say 16 degrees with 99 degrees water added.... Temperature change of 55 degrees vs 83 degrees. I could be totally wrong, just thinking out loud.

Eco, Normal, Sport
Unless you have either DSG gearbox or DCC Suspension there isn't much to notice.

Speed camera warning request.
In an ideal world, yes, we would all be able to keep fully alert to our speed at every moment and what the speed limit is at every moment, but in the real world we are bombarded with information whether that be pedestrians or cyclists about to position themselves in your path, road signs which are there to be seen, or adverts designed to get your attention. Personally, I would rather watch out for pedestrians etc. than every single speed limit sign.... So if there is technology available as a backup, then why not use it.

Depending on exactly how "old and incompetent" you are, you could try using an app on your smart phone if you have one. I use "Tom Tom AmiGo" and "Waze" for this exact purpose.

Hand gel damaged my steering wheel!
I can't use the normal hand sanitiser stuff because it makes me get a rash a day or two later but there is a "carex moisture" type that doesn't irritate my skin so that may be less harmful to the steering wheel in future but obviously won't help any peeling that's already started.

Loud Steering Creak?
Thanks nick.... It seems to have stopped in the last couple of days, just the usual minor suspension creaks that I believe are associated with the ARB bushes so I will see what happens but always useful to be given a heads up to other potential causes. Funnily enough, I did jet wash the car a couple of days before it started to I wonder if water ingress could have played a part but now dried out.

Chest and muscle pain
Is your steering wheel pulled out as far towards you as it could be, or is your seat leaning too far back.... Resulting in your upper back being curved/strained and leaning forward..?

Thanks, I'll look into that

Loud Steering Creak?
That's exactly why I'm not planning to take it to a main dealer as if computer says no then that's good enough for them. Yes it only happens at low speeds but does occur with only a small amount of lock. I don't even have to be moving....it happens if I just move steering wheel while parked up.

Loud Steering Creak?
No, it's not like that.... Much more of a creaking noise. Thanks for the reply though.

Loud Steering Creak?
Hi... Recently I've been getting a few more creaks from my suspension and am aware of the thread(s) discussing this at length but this evening the creaks seem to have got worse and now happen whenever I turn the steering wheel by a reasonable amount at low speeds. Has anyone else experienced this..?

2018 superb sportline
A few months ago I was toying with the idea of trading in my Superb (SE Tech Manual) for a Sportline/Sportline Plus 2.0 with DSG but realised that for not much more I could get a bmw5 but haven't got as far as comparing equipment, although I must admit I was surprised when I watched a review on youtube and heard that folding rear seats and ski hatch was an option.

I suspect it's a few things such as this that make the difference between a Skoda Superb vs BMW 5 Series. The Skoda is a very good car but for a few more notes, I suspect you get more quality.

Wipers Query
I need new wiper blades so today went to Wilco Motosave and gave them my registration expecting them to know exactly what wipers I need but their system came up with two different sized pairs. Does anyone know why there wouldn't just be a standard pair size..? I can measure the current ones and get a size to match but just wondered why there isn't one recommended pair. Apparently Wilco don't stock Bosch anymore because Bosch just upped their prices massively but that's whose wipers I usually use so will source elsewhere when I can get definitive size/ref.

Seat comfort for shorter drivers....
Doesn't work, I tried that method but I didn't grow left/right, I grew front and back.

Seat comfort for shorter drivers....
I think you'll find there's a big clutch pedal sized space in the footwell so the other pedals are in the same position whether it's dsg or manual. The pedal positions seemed to make my body migrate from the centre of the seat base across to the right, towards the seat base bolster, which was then uncomfortable. It felt that if I had wider hips I would fit more snuggly between the seat base bolsters and not move sideways, even though it is only half an inch or so.
-
Seat comfort for shorter drivers....
The steering wheel and seat seem aligned ok, but to me, the pedals are offset slightly to the right, which I believe is due to the RHD conversion, but not as bad as some other European cars apparently. I think I've got used to it now but for over a year it felt like the pedals should be about half an inch further over to the left. This might have been made to feel worse because my car is a manual gearbox so constantly using the clutch pedal perhaps highlighted it. The left side footrest also hindered my clutch foot so I removed the plastic cover to make it narrower.

Seat comfort for shorter drivers....
I'm 5ft 9in with a slim frame (long arms, long legs, shorter torsoe, which does affect things). I have had the my car 16 months and only just got a reasonably comfortable driving position (it could still be so much better). I've been very very tempted to change the car but lockdown made that more difficult so haven't done so (yet). Strangely, when I have sat in other large cars at used car supermarkets, my Superb feels more comfortable when I get back in it than before. I find that if I get in the right location in the seat (laterally) it's not uncomfortable but having a slim frame makes it more difficult to consistently get in the right location and stay there (seats feel wide and very slightly offset). Also, I think the lumbar support isn't good. Elsewhere on the site someone else traded in for a 5 series solely due to lack of good lumbar support. One more thing to add is that excess body roll can play it's part and the sportline version has a narrower seat back which holds you in place better.

Buying a 2017 Superb SEL executive
Just out of interest, is there a specific reason you want a manual gearbox? The reason I ask is that I have a manual but wish I'd gone for a Dsg.

Buying a 2017 Superb SEL executive
Chrome trim above door coming loose. Glove box not staying closed. Scored brake discs at rear. Creaking suspension at low speed over speed bumps. Door handles coming loose (or off).

Space saver and no ACC
I'm sure I've read on here before that having the space saver on disables the acc.

how to remove this?
Isn't every problem posted on here a first world problem.

how to remove this?
A hair dryer often works to get rid of marks on vinyl flooring so might work, but I guess there's a chance it could also make it worse so depends how desperate you are to risk it.

280 SL Exec - Purchase advice
Check the glovebox closes properly. Some cars had a problem in that the glovebox side catch wouldn't engage properly and would sometimes fall open while driving. A telltale sign is if there is poor alignment / sagging at the left hand side in the closed position.

Seat position in Superb
Might be a stupid question but no offence intended but have you tried moving the seat as far back as it will go and then see if it will lower again. I have found mine sometimes behaves differently depending on other seat settings and is a bit perplexing at times. But when parked up waiting for someone I have moved the seat as low as possible and as far back as it will go and thought it would be ok for an absolute giant, certainly up to about 6'6"... But that is without sunroof.
