  1. A good friend from my racing days campaigned an obscenely quick Turner GT, I wish I had stepped in when he eventually had to sell it, they are worth an absolute fortune now but money aside I would just love to own it and drive it.
  2. If the clips are a spring steel type to that slots over a larger punched hole then they are known as "Spire Clips", a google image search will tell you if they are. Whether VAG call them that is another question.
  3. €135 proved to be not dissuasive enough 😀
  4. Probably OK to drive it for a short while, if the machanic had seen it was already degraded he would have been very insistent, nonetheless it should be considered a priority, toothed rubber drive belts and oil do not mix although Ford and others, maybe even VAG took the daft decision that they would do exactly that on recent engines
  5. I had that issue with the Bluetooth module so fitted a slightly shallower storage box under the drivers seat, still far more volume than the VAG passengers one would have, later on fed up with VCDS fault codes for no comms with Bluetooth after fitting a Chinese head unit I removed the Bluetooth module from the installation list and then had to disconnect it as it was trying to communicate and failing! I should have just ripped it out in the first place.
  6. There is no Canbus connection or communication with headlight bulbs, its just misinformed BS that the sellers trot out. The body control module has a bulb monitoring function, it sends a pulse to the lights on start up and measures the volt drop which is proportional to the circuit resistance, crude but it can tell if a filament is blown or the wrong wattage bulb fitted, it communicates this information via canbus to other modules like the instrument panel, that is about as tenuous a connection to Canbus as could be. The bulbs will not have chips in them, they will have a parallel shunt resistor to make the overall resistance equal to the incandescent filament bulb that should be fitted.
  7. Do you have the means to change the long coding on the unit, VCDS or other? If so then its just a case of going through the options and selecting the relevant byte for each one. If you do not then you have no option but to pay someone to do it. You have not said what problem you have making you want to correctly code the unit, if it is functions not working like steering wheel controls, cruise control etc it's quite likely that the wrong revision unit (a lower spec unit) has been fitted which does not support the function(s). Rosstech have a web page with the various part numbers, suffixes and functionality.
  8. On my MK2 Octavia the seat side plastic trim was different to accommodate the storage locker which I had not even known was there. Its a miniscule volume for a lot of money, on the Yeti I used plastic storage boxes from a DIY shed which I have adapted to clip to the seat cross rail using 22mm pipe clips, they move back and forth with the seat, cannot be seen and do not impede the seat adjustments. They have many times the volume of the VAG item and have the advantage that they can be removed to rummage through sat on your lap.
  9. And as another person berated for - I do not run my tank as low as I do to measure my fuel consumption I do it because I dont want to fill the tank up 5 times when I can do so 4 times, no point for me in driving around with a 60 litre fuel tank and only using 50 of them or less than 45 if you refill when the fuel warning light comes on, others prefer to feel secure and I understand that. As ScoutMKIII has become adversarial I wont contribute any more and wish him well finding the cause of his increased fuel consumption. Nowhere near 7 litres volume in the filler the true volume of the tank does not include overfilling, Skoda used to quote the true tank volume with the "reserve capacity" shown in brackets, it looks like at some stage they stopped doing so and only quote the net capacity, I wonder if it is yet some more kidology because of WT whatever (I wanted to say WTF!) requirements, gaming the system to get a lower emissions rating? Do they perhaps call it "refill" capacity?
  10. Not hefty when you know what the capacities are and understand how the fuel gauge gradually starts telling lies once it gets beneath 1/2 a tank. You know the miles remaining figure that shows just after you have filled up? The one that you think is optimistic as its 100 miles more than you ever get out of a tank and will get out of that one? That is the true range of a full tank if you use the whole capacity and its still a little pessimistic. I had never known just how much I had remaining so on the first tank on my MK2 Octavia I ran it dry, it did 820 miles but I was driving for economy and the last afternoon was just driving around aimlessly waiting for it to run out.
  11. Is there not the traditional 7 litre "virtual" reserve in addition to the quoted 50 litres? On all 3 of my Skodas I get around 5 litres more than the stated capacity on every tank fill by driving 50 miles or more beyond when it says zero miles remaining.
  12. They may not be incorrect, if nobody has changed the settings then something has corrupted them in the module. Time will tell. I had never noticed this option, every day is a learning day.
  13. Speculation based on a belief in two dashboard indications which can vary in service so much that they are able to be adjusted via VCDS. That is why I asked -
  14. Take out the judgemental words like bigoted, racist, extreme right thugs and you are left with a contraction of someones nationality which some may take offence at being used, if the person taking offence is a Pakistani and the words are spoken to him then knowing the context and the way the words are spoken they can make that judgement. @D.FYLAKTOS I do not consider you a racist, a bigot or a far right thug for using a once widespread contraction of a persons nationality any more than I would take offence if you called me a Brit, on the other hand I could understand you being offended by someone telling you not once but 3 times what 'you want to" do.
  15. Inspect the drivers door loop wiring carefully, unclip and slide back the bellows between the door hinges and check for broken conductors and fractured insulation.
  16. Carry on driving to 500 miles and beyond, if you run out of fuel you were right, if you dont then its become pessimistic after the change of government! Are you refilling with the same quantity of diesel as before? As an aside diesel here in France has been steadily coming down for several months, it always seems to happen after I fill up, its €1.58/litre at present, has it been coming down in the UK?
  17. @Ootohere From the groan awarded I conclude there wasn't so I ask again what was your point?
  18. So just the protruding end of the left hand drive key has sheared off leaving the crankshaft pulley sitting concentric on the protruding part but not capable of being driven? Looking at the photo it seems there is a key on the right driving the toothed drive wheel from the crank and one on the left driving the pulley, is that right? If the key on the right is not damaged and especially the keyway in the crankshaft not damaged then you have dodged a bullet, a new drive wheel and possibly pulley should suffice. It looks like clever design where the LH sacrificial key with limited engagement will shear if the bolt is loose but the longer key driving the toothed drive and cams which have less inertia than the harmonic damper pulley will be undamaged, as you stopped the engone quickly you have a very good chance.
  19. Unladen mass not less than 425kg not including the mass of the battery pack for EV's There must be several modern vehicles that could get under that figure for an EV version given the mass of a thermal engine and transmission compared to an Electric one, the problem for the maufacturers is that it would only give them a competitive advantage in the French market, its a shame other countries do not have the same liberty for drivers without licenses, anything that could reduce the amount of dangerous muppets on Electric Scooters could only be a good thing. The Citroen Ami is doing very well here as its far better than the other VSL's and is acceptable to most who would mock them.
  20. What is your point? I was responding to your posting which already illustrated the differences between heavy and light quadricycles (which in any case is a UK distinction) and which featured the Citroen Ami, a Voiture sans permis. It was intended to be informative. Was there anything I wrote which was wrong or you disagree with?
  21. Poor bloke having to move to get some peace 😆 I bet the others have a neighbourhood watch Whatsapp group going where they ask to see if its safe for them to open their bonnet to check their oil. Even the AA man was badgered doing his job.
  22. A couple of screws and yank it! Alternatively catch it on a kerb and it will detach itself!
  23. Re the quadricyle, no license needed to drive one in France, they are called VSP's - Voiture sans permis (permis = driving license). Children over 14 years old can drive them, they are an important part of growing up and gaining maturity as many 14 year olds attend Lycée Professionnelles many miles from their homes and many stay in rented accommodation close to the Lycée during the week, they have the right to do that as well, I rented several appartments to Lycéens and it was very encouraging to see them grow from mature children to responsable adults going on to forge careers at Airbus, marry and buy their first house locally. There are 2 other main user types of VSL's, people who have lost their license through drink driving and people who will never be competent to pass a test in their lifetime, the first group tend to be safe but embarrassed and stigmatised and quite possibly sozzled, the latter very dangerous! Insurance premiums are massive as over exuberant drunken adolescents love to tip them on their roofs!
  24. Do you mean that you sheared the drive key in the crankshaft for the lower pulley? If so look carefully at the keyways in both the crankshaft and the pulley, if the pulley one is damaged then replace the pulley, if the crankshaft one is damaged then the crankshaft is scrap. No matter what bodges are carried out with Loctite etc or how much you tighten the pulley bolt any movement will soon amplify and shake the pulley loose again, for a drive key to work it has to be a transition fit in both the crankshaft and the driven pulley, no play whatsoever is tolerable.
  25. Does the vehicle veer to one side if the steering wheel is released? To avoid any road camber influence repeat the test driving straddling the middle of the road where safe to do so - in a place with good visibility and no oncoming vehicles
