the truth about electric cars
I for one would quite like you to give some interesting examples. A test establishment is proof that the authorities of the time were not rushing headlong into an emerging technology. Will Ozempic become the new Thalidomide?

SKODA SUPERB SPORTLINE 2.0 tdi TENSIONER
Have I read it right that the original tensioner did not fail but both the new ones fitted by the mechanic did? Have you had to pay for 2 water pumps etc?

SKODA SUPERB SPORTLINE 2.0 tdi TENSIONER
"Snapping" in what way, tensioner spring? Pulley? What are the symptoms when it supposedly snaps?

Advice on tyres
Very but the Yeti has 16" wheels and high profile tyres so has an advantage, they are much more comfortable than both sets of winter tyres I have tried.

the truth about electric cars
No, I had a mix of long and short stay renters, the workers at the Airbus factory stayed 10 or 11 months of the year vacating during July and August when I would always be at 100% with Commonwealth tourists at a much higher nightly rate. Some engineers would stay 3 during a 3 month or so contract working through the summer, they were regulars and I would not refuse them, a couple of guys rented and paid in advance and within a week were sent to Spain to oversee the sub contract manufacture of their project, had I charged them the nightly rate for their stay it would have been more, the company paid their expenses anyway so I stored their bags for their return with a guarantee that I would accommodate them, their rooms were relet on the nightly rate within a couple of hours which also happened whenever there was a cancellation. Back then I had a 10.5 month tourist season and 10.5 month long term rental season which overlapped, after Covid I decided to move on to pastures new as it would have meant starting from zero, not starting again because before I went from zero to 100% in weeks and I felt it would take years for either market to return and neither would be at the same level, it seems I was right.

Front seat height
I sympathise, there is a clean patch on my drivers door cill where my trousers rub against it getting in. My clothes are so tatty you cant see the difference but the clean patch on the car stands out 😄 Actually for the last 4 months I have only worn shorts so its my calf getting dirtier!

Advice on tyres
I fitted the same tyres as the old ones, Hankook Ventus Prime 3 (old were Prime 2) because they performed well but above all because I did 55000 miles on them and they were part worn when I got the vehicle, remarkable considering its 4WD, that I often drive like I still on a racetrack and the massive loads they have towed over 10k miles or more. I do my own tyre fitting and they did not need any balancing on factory rims with the old weights removed, a pleasant surprise from the stickers (which I have on my workshop wall like any tyre shop!) is that they have an A rating for wet weather grip. They were very cheap compared to other makes so worth considering. No punctures in all those miles although one needed reinflating every 3 weeks towards the end which I thought was the first of the alloys to go porous but no longer a problem with the new tyres, maybe a bead leak but I have never known one develop unless the rim corrodes and mine hadnt.

Front seat height
Its likely to be closer to the Fabia, the front end donor vehicle of the cut n shut Roomster. Whereas the Yeti is pretty much the same as the Octavia but with a suspension lift and taller profile tyres.

the truth about electric cars
Tell me how your buses could run at 300% capacity and I will explain how my apartment hôtel ran at 110% occupation one summer.

Washer bottle pump/s
That is the correct way of fitting a sealing grommet in that instance.

the truth about electric cars
No it was while running and passing someone using a hedgetrimmer on conifers. I was working in and still do work in dusty atmospheres. That was the only attack but the peak flow meter shows low readings some days. I was going to stop the prescribed medication (Innovair Inhaler) as most of the time my peak flow readings were the same as they were in my 30's (I brought on asthma a couple of times spraying 2 pack paint) I never seem to be short of breath when running or doing intense physical work but the Pneumologue said that my flow rates on their laboratory machine (in a booth) were down and I should continue but allowed me to drop it to once a day. I was shocked when I saw the compte rendu sent to my GP (its accessible on line with all my medical records) to see that I only had 75% of theoretical breathing capacity, had I known that when I was running in competitions I would definitely have medicated myself, I know what 25% airflow restriction does to a petrol engine!!!!!!!! I also know that it was almost impossible to run with a Covid mask and my pace drops off if I am wearing a too tight Lycra top, - resistance against chest expansion.

the truth about electric cars
Infant mortality rates decreasing, 10 pensioners living 8 years longer have less affect than one baby not dying before 12 months old. It is pretty much the sole reason for the massive increase in life expectancy, unfortunately many people drink it up and genuinely believe they will comfortably live longer than their parents despite having lived a much worse lifestyle. I used to have asthma as a child when there was lots of smog, I did not have it after but I might just as well blame it on 78rpm records being responsable, a year ago I had my first asthma attack for close to 60 years yet where I live the air is the cleanest and clearest of my whole life. My Pneumologue explained that asthma is for life, I had simply been in remission all that time.

Insulation of the fuel rail, worth it?
Your engine has closed loop Lambda control and will run at the Stochiometric ratio despite your fiddling. If you want to be cooling anything it is the induction air. Cooler air is denser, more oxygen = more fuel injected to maintain Lambda 1.0 = more power for a given throttle opening. I doubt that it would be measurable though, the manufacturers will have done their utmost even back then.

75w90 instead of Haldex oil
The thinner the oil the better for both engine and transmission as long as it can continue to lubricate under operating conditions, its what all manufacturers are trying to achieve. You say that you don't advise (others) to use a higher viscosity oil as you did, what were the consequences?

Minimum brake shoe material thickness (Felicia)
Not true, new or even completely worn brake shoes would still lock up the adjuster using a drum that is worn outside of its service limit. Measurement is the only sure way.

Insulation of the fuel rail, worth it?
Not in a pressurised system, the pressure will increase according to Boyles law. The flow of fuel will be a function of the system pressure and the injector orifice diameter, the fuel rail will be sized to not restrict the flow to the injectors. Dont make the mistake of thinking that 40°c is twice as hot as 20°c, the gas laws and thermodynamics use absolute temperature measured in degrees Kelvin, 40°c (313°K) is less than 7° hotter than 20°c (293°K) If you really want to continue this you should be looking at the viscosity of petrol vs temperature, you will find that the injectors will flow two tenths of three sixteenths of **** all extra fuel making the mixture minutely richer, at which point the ECU responding to the change in Lambda sensor reading will command less injector duration or rail pressure to lean the engine out back to Lambda 1.0. In short you will be pi55ing into the wind!

the truth about electric cars
They are 100% electric now on all the vehicles that have the possibility, the trucks that replace the telegraph poles, carry diggers etc are not for example. They are on their 3rd generation of EV's, my only question is the huge losses they make when reselling them but they wont have paid the headline price, Renault may even have given them to them initially, also EDF will save a fortune on the fuel. La Poste used their first EV's for mail deliveries in Paris in 1901! The range was 65kms and the carrying capacity 600kg, pretty much equal to those I am considering buying. They used Renault EV's during WW2 and again in the mid 80's but the big change was in 1999 when they committed to having EV's as 10% of their fleet, its close to 100% now, I dont think I have ever had mail delivered by anything but an EV and I've been here 20 years soon.

75w90 instead of Haldex oil
Rated for the life of the vehicle. No harm in changing it if it floats your boat but at only 16k miles????????????
-
Insulation of the fuel rail, worth it?
There will be no evaporation in the pressurised fuel injector lines.
-
Washer bottle pump/s
Correct, the larger capacity one is for the headlights, the one with 2 outlets is front and rear screen pump.
-
Voltage
Absolutely normal aside from when the battery is significantly discharged when it may go above 14v for a few minutes.

the truth about electric cars
I have discovered hundreds if not thousands of Renault Kangoo and Citroen Berlingo EV's languishing in fields in 5 different locations close to where I live, they all seem to trace back to one garage who will be renting the extra space from other businesses and land owners. The majority of them are yellow coloured La Poste vans both the first and second generation EV's but there are also vans and 4 seat passenger vehicles from EDF and lots of other local and national Utilities that were all keen to score brownie points following the herd mentality, from what I have gathered they cost €20k new and those that sold at auction were lucky to raise €3k. I'm going to go and have a chat with the guy trying to sell them, I believe with the Renault you have to rent the battery which is a no for me, I think the majority of them are being stocked up for recycling by the scrapyard in my village, the biggest and most up to date precious metal recycling facility in SW France and that they probably dont have the specialist plant up and running yet or are waiting for approvals. If I can score an interesting project for much cheapness then I will take the plunge, my Yeti which is being abused as a van could finally get cleaned up and the rear seats re-installed. Does anyone know anything about these models? I think they were 22kw initially with 33kw later on and restricted to 110km/h, I would say that most of them are 5 - 7 years old.

rear wiper stopped working
The pause while at lights? It took me ages to twig it was happening as I rarely am driving in bad weather in urban areas and you dont really notice the absence of something in conditions where it is not needed, it was on moving off again that I realised it may well be something selected by long coding.

rear wiper stopped working
Given that its functionality seems to be simply to operate when commanded by the Body/Comfort Control module and to self park there would be no need for it to be a Canbus Node yet I'm sure that was the case on my MK2 Octavia and it came as a surprise to me.
