Multiple dashboard warning lights. No communication with ABS Module
A resistance check does not confirm that a wheel speed sensor is operating correctly, it may indicate one theoretical failure mode and it may well tell you that your new pattern part one is not going to work because it has the wrong resistance but by far the major failure mode of these sensors is a fractured internal sintered magnet, the only way to diagnose whther they are functioning correctly is via VCDS or using an oscilloscope.

Massive shortage of Hi-Voltage dealerships.
Hybrids are the worst of both worlds, ICE and EV's have too much complication as it stands without combining them whih adds a 3rd level. The attraction of EV to me, someone who maintains their own vehicle is the simplicity compared to a reciprocation ICE smothered in emissions control electronics. I appreciate that the mains charging transformers needs a different qualification to what a mechanic would have but its not as if they have to be trained to rewire your house or work doing live connections to overhead catenary wires, they simply need to have been trained on safe working practices and safety testing. I would like to think that by the time EV becomes mainstream mechanics will not need anywhere near the competence and experience most currently lack π I am preparing to dip my toe in the water with a small local runabout which can lug materials, it will probably be an ex La Poste van, I am confident that being removed from the frustration of dealing with the incompetence and insouciance of garages that it will demand far less of my time and present far fewer problems than the CR diesel. I might be proved wrong and if so that will be the end of it for me.

Abs eps tpm after changing wheels.
Perhaps you have misworded that, I dont think you meant to say that the vast majority of ABS sensor failures happen during wheelchanges.

Plastic cap missing for AC Gas Refill
I'll raise you downwards to 30p including postage from China! Well 30p each if you buy 10 of them! They do actually have an important function aside from stopping dust which may cause the valve to leak after the next refill, if the valve core does leak the caps have a seal inside and are rated to stop any leakage of system pressure. Go to any fast fit tyre depot and you will find dozens of them forming a commune on the AC recharge machine, just like the wheel centre caps on the tyre changing machines!

Cam Belt Change on WaterPump Replacement
Not at all, the dealer might try to convince the owner to pay them to do so with scare tactics but a warranty only covers failed components. It sounds like you were not even the owner of the car at the time.

Ooooh, lots of shiny Skodas (museum)
Shame there are not more photos, the odd ones I have seen of rare older period road and competition vehicles were stunning.

Goodbye my friends....
It shows how far they have fallen when a Citroen is a far better proposition. Even if Skoda had rested on their laurels and remained as they were and Citroen had really upped their game, which I'm sure they have, then they would at best be equal. It is certainly not the reliability (lack thereof!) that keeps me remaining loyal to Skoda it is the knowledge base and helpful nature of this forum, most of the info is equally applicable to other VAG models but from what I have gathered the forums are not as good. I would only consider another manufacturer if there was the equivalent of VCDS available at an affordable price, that for me is an essential for modern vehicles, ony alternative, one I seriously consider is reverting to much older vehicles.

the truth about electric cars
"The point I was making about home chargers is that if the data connections is just going to be a UK thing and with the UK being a small market it will hard to justify a dedicated production line for the existing large makers who would rather make 1 product for all markets." Going to be? It already is and will be the reason they are so expensive and so few models available and why many if not most fitted with government subsidies. Just look how many are available on Amazon.fr, https://www.amazon.fr/s?k=borne+recharge+7.4+kw&__mk_fr_FR=Γ MΓ Ε½ΓΓ&crid=2CTEHI9HNHPP4&sprefix=borne+recharge+7.4+kw%2Caps%2C162&ref=nb_sb_noss_2

Screw in the tyre of Enyaq
I first started using tyre plugs when a garagiste used one to repair my puncture, he removed the (non self sealing!) screw, roughened the hole with a rotary rasp, inserted the plug and pulled out the insertion tool cutting the "stitch", he did it all so fast only a breath of air escaped, I never manage to acheive that especially on the vehicle a the side of the road.

Screw in the tyre of Enyaq
He will no doubt be rejoicing at the news. Wise enough but it is perfectly legal for a tyre fitter to repair a tyre with a plug and for you to drive on it for the remaining life of the tyre, it was a bit strong to ask him to eat his initial repair after doing it and you could have found a more diplomatic way of achieving what you wanted. I presume initially you just asked for a puncture repair?

All N/S electrics down.....

Anti Corrosion Warranty Repair has rusted again!
Thats exactly the standard I would expect of a paintwork warranty repair from Skoda!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At 8 years old is your vehicle still covered under the paintwork warranty? How are you going to insist on anything when you have no contract with them? What random people on the internet might think will have no bearing on any claim you may submit.

the truth about electric cars
What does that have to do with the price of fish? The discussion was about charge points (they are not chargers) communicating with the national grid. You may find it hard to accept but look elsewhere in Europe or the wide world or look simply at the couple of charge points that I linked to and you will see that the only higher current wall mounted charge points permitted in the UK are indeed produced specially to include the comms with the national grid, I bet there is only a handful of manufacturers bothering.

the truth about electric cars
It seems there are no end of 32 amp 7.4kw EV charge points available in France or cheaper in China, none seem to have any comms whatsoever, here is one example: https://www.ebay.fr/itm/126286912282?var=0&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=709-53476-19255-0&campid=5338765853&toolid=20006&_ul=FR&customid=FR_131090_126286912282.144198589438~1884958317996-g_CjwKCAjwnv-vBhBdEiwABCYQA8yifxQv6DJzTsbsZ46miA47IS0gC-a9U_MsKZCRX3AlY1J1KKt0JxoC3FQQAvD_BwE

I am not considering fitting this one but just use it as an example.

the truth about electric cars
Maybe we are getting somewhere with the above, all I want is the latter for an uncomplicated life! I'm sure all this nonsense is built in to the only charge points you are allowed to have in the UK and unless the vehicle has to have it I'm sure it is irrelevant to my situation.

the truth about electric cars
I am failing to communicate, its not about whether I have ethernet or wi-fi, its about do I need comms to be able to plug a type 2 (if thats the right wording) charging lead into an EV for it to charge? Forget everything about the UK National Grid, it is not relevant, forget about off peak charging, I do not have that abonnement on this property, it is a rip off now compared to when I chose it for the HΓ΄tel. Forget about solar panels, they are not in the plan, forget about V2H, I simply want to plug in and lt the vehicle charge itself. If I can plug in a type 2 (faster) charging cable into the (future) vehicle I will not give a flying four X about CT clamp, comms or any other signal that is needed in the future.

the truth about electric cars
For the vehicle or for the National Grid? Having read your link I now understand the comms side of things to spread the load on the National Grid and for off peak charging. I dont think the vehicle charger needs to know anything other than it is being supplied with electricity, perhaps it needs to know the maximum mains current that can be drawn to adjust the charging rate accordingly, I am guessing there is something in the Type 2 plug it recognises. No question of that happening, I dont even know if the UK style communicating charge points exist here, I am certainly not obliged to use one, feature rich is a turn off for me, I dont want any features, I want to plug in and let the vehicle charger do its stuff, I want to use a lead or charge point that is not going to overheat or melt the contacts, I'm still trying to get my head around why everyone is saying I need comms, there certainly is no benefit to me unless the vehicle charger will not function without them. Thanks for the explanation of the holster, very neat and I will certainly do that, I might even rig up one of those automatic retractable reels used for airlines, garden hoses and extension leads, I have a couple spare. Last question, what is tethered and untethered?

the truth about electric cars
No digging required, surface run inside ground floor garage from incoming main fuseboard, short cable run, my property, my charging point nobody even the government gets to say what has to be done. I presume then CT is a current measuring inductive clamp, I'm confused about the term charger, Root says the charger is in the vehicle, all I am looking to do is install an outside connecting point for faster charging than the granny cable. I concern myself with keeping within the current limit of my abonnement, upstream of the meter is Enedis's domain, they cannot (currently) deny me full use of the power limit I pay for (6kva, 9kva or 12kva), the difference to the UK is that I have to pay extra for higher supply currents, they want to do it hence my concern about the comms side of things and wanting to avoid them. My question is/was why would I want or need communications, it sounds like it is forced on you by having to have installed the smart chargers they insist on, but again I ask the question, is it actually a charger or just a connection to the vehicles charging circuit? One which denys or limits your charging at the whim of the National grid? The vehicle charger clearly works on a Granny cable without any comms, does the vehicle charger need comms to work on faster charge rates? I am beginning to think it is the outside charging connection points that are referred to as chargers that would use these comms and petulantly will not function without them. Thanks for your responses so far π

Brake fluid change at dealership
On a track yes, very quickly in fact, on the road, for 99% of people 99% of the time, never in a million years, when it happened to me I was driving like a loony dowhill through bends towing my racecar and 2 sets of wheels and tyres on a heavy homebuilt trailer the Galaxy loaded with all my tools, paddock gear and camping gear and unbeknown to me the front brake calipers full of rusty water. My MK1 Octavia was checked every year with a calibrated garage tester, there was no detectable fluid content right up to the day it was scrapped after 17 years and 32500 miles, there was no H2O to boil, water being absorbed through the brake hoses is an old wives tale, master cylinder caps are very well sealed with gallery vents (the MK1 Galaxy aside) there really is no way for fluid to become moisture laden these days. I also drove that Octavia for 18 hot laps of Croix en Ternois circuit with 3 passengers under instruction, its the hardest circuit that I know on brakes and they were only good for the first 2 laps, no late braking thereafter and you never apply the handbrake in the paddock after that, it was heat fade and some fluid fluid boiling but not because of water content, that feels very different and is unmistakable. It was 5 years old then with I reckon 225000 miles on the clock.
