  1. Physically or cyberattacked? If the former then why are you amazed? Its not as if other UK infrastructures have come under terrorist attack, cyber attacks for money I could understand but they are going to target those with the least defences and who can privately cave in and pay up.
  2. When I buy a second hand EV, and it is a project of mine, I will not be too concerned about loss of storage capacity but loss of charge or charging and running efficiency. I guess with solar power even that is not so important.
  3. I am talking about self discharge of the cells, the same thing that happend with your battery tools, you charge the battery fully, put it away and when you come to use it in a week, a month, or whatever it has lost some of its charge, towards the end with the older Ni-Cad packs the tool would perform well straight after charging but after a few days only last a couple of minutes before you had to recharge at which point it would do what was expected of it. If this happens on a 6.5 year old battery showing 79% capacity it is like my analogy of putting fuel into a leaking tank. Just as I did as an impoverished 20 year old when I put half filled my Triumph Stag late at night and saw drips leaking out, I could not repair it in the dark, I had to drain the fuel to do so and only had one 5l petrol can, I could not park it outside my bedsit, snow was on the ground and the leak would have been obvious, fire brigade, problems with housing association etc, so I chose to drive around all through the night 😁
  4. J.R. replied to survey's topic in Skoda Karoq
They would tell you that would be against the law 🤣
  5. The problem is more likely the journey profile, next time it happens restart the vehicle and go for a drive to allow it to complete the regen, keep an eye on the idle speed, you should see it drop back to 800rpm from 1000rpm when the regen has completed if you cannot hear the fan noise while driving or recognise the change in engine note.
  6. He will pay dearly for his 15 minutes of fame. If you want to be Walter Mitty dont do it in a vehicle whose telemetry records everything. I was expecting the same thing to happen to the Scottish guy from some while back.
  7. Well despite the battery capacity being slightly lower it does not seem to be using any more energy to do a journey than when it was new which is very encouraging. If I bought a 6.5 year old ICE vehicle it might well do less MPG than when new especially if the oil changes had not been regularly carried out and it has a DPF that might be partially blocked, maybe from the wrong oil being used. All these things are a risk when buying second hand but people in general dont let them out them off, if you were to say this vehicle will have none of these problems (because its an EV), the fuel tank will be a little bit smaller than when it was new but it will still do the same mpg (kw/mile) they would not be put off especially if the cost to replace the shrunken fuel tank would be 3/4 of the value of the vehicle, they would just say, its the right price, it will not go wrong like the other diesel or petrol vehicles we are considering, we will just put up with refuelling it slightly more often and having a little less range. Would your 79% battery self discharge any more than a new one? That might put a different complexion on it, nobody would want to buy a car that leaked fuel, other than that your figures make a compelling argument to buy a second hand EV.
  8. I do! Bang in the middle of it, as the only scrap metal weigh in place in the region os in my village it is the centre of the universe for the gens de voyage (static) community and has been for 45 years. half the listings on the Facebook groups are ferailleurs offering to take away your scrap vehicles and metal plus of course anything else metallic while your back is turned. Thankfully the old adage about not s***ting on your doorstep seems to be true and I have great neighbours.
  9. That is surprisingly little. I have done 55000 miles now on the set of 4 Kumhos that were on my vehicle when I bought it and they were not new then, I have no way of knowing how many miles they had covered before my ownership but I dont reckon many as the vehicle had been driven like it was stolen (clutch cover friction area dished and burned from doing 4wd drag starts) but thankfully the tyres were not scrubbed. In my experience the 2 factors that really influence tyre longevity make the biggest difference during the first few thousand miles, correct tyre pressures (which are probably different to the manufacturers settings) and driving moderately to avoid scrubbing out the inside or outside edges. It may take 3 or 4mm of uneven wear before the driver may realise, that means they wont get the last 3 or 4mm of wear from the tyres that they would if they wore evenly, wear is not progressive, the last 1/2 of useable tread depth lasts twice as long as the first. In the initial weeks on new tyres I use an infra red pyrometer to measure the temperature gradient after a spirited drive and adjust the pressures to even it out, just as I did when racing, after that once wear is measurable I measure the tread depth across the tyre and tweak the pressures again to the optimum, I rotate the tyres once a year and move the least worn tyres to the corners where the most wear occurs, I also mark and note the tread depths to know how much wear since the last rotation. My aim is for all 4 tyres to wear evenly down to the TWI's and a little beyond which is where I am at now after 55K miles, what has amazed me is I expected tyre wear to be higher because it is 4x4. During my very lean years I drove 250000 miles on part worn tyres, I would only ever buy a set of 4 matching tyres that were evenly worn across the width for the reasons above, I would then rotate them by eye, I got great mileage but not as much as the Yeti because I would have to change the set when one wore quicker than the others or clobbered a kerb, I think the higher profile of the Yeti tyres have saved me in that regard.
  10. Good point, I did not know that Langers2K was of the same mind.
  11. How does the kw/mile figure compare with when you bought the vehicle?
  12. We? I might agree with your sentiments but surely you are speaking for yourself unless there is a forum rule.
  13. I am on the move most of the day, I do between 12 and 15K steps every day without ever leaving my small plot, simply working on the ground floor alone, my drinking habits are bad, I drink water and lemon juice and mainly last thing before going to bed, I have just done so and would usually have a second glass, as a consequence I may get up once during the night but only because I am awake, when its below 3° inside I stay in bed! I dread to think how many nocturnal visits I would make if I was still a beer and wine drinker.
  14. Crazy but inspiring!
  15. Those of you that do not have the same range as your vehicles (I did not use autonomy this time! 👍) do you have to get up during the night as well? If so how many times? My maximum budget for a new (to me) vehicle has always been £3K and for that plus a few quid in repairs I have always managed to find a decent sought after late model vehicle, since Covid that no longer seems to be the case but I intend keeping this one forever so its neither here nor there unless someone crashes into me.
  16. Used as or perceived as rude by the reciever? I have never taken it as an insult when its used correctly to describe my lack of knowledge of something, I use it frequently to describe myself but that is also a French thing, I have no qualms using it with French people but I dont tend to in English, not because I think it is an insult but because like many things these days some seek tp become victimised, my sister being off the scale turning even a compliment against herself.
  17. Pot, kettle, black. The only reason that I replied was your appeal for me to "give you some like for it" I dont know why you think that I dont like what you write, its simply that some of it I have difficulty understanding. I would like to know why did you quote yourself and ask yourself a question and also what is the point I have missed?
  18. Really???????????? I understand that a single duff cell in a battery pack will do that but solar panels? Are they not wired in parallel? Do you have anything to back up your claim?
  19. You did not say that you reset the TPMS after resetting the pressures, if not done then it absolutely would trigger another warning and there is no reason to assume that a sensor has failed, all of the above systems cannot work unless the TPMS system is functioning and the new tyre pressures have been validated.
  20. On what basis do you advance that hypothesis? Most failures are caused by external influences, rust on the trigger ring clouting the sensor or a kerbing incident bith of which can fracture the sintered magnet inside making an intermittent and eventually permanent fault, mine started after a kerbing. Its a very simple and very robust sensor, there are no components with a lifespan, if a magnet becomes fractured there is no reason that any of the others will have the same fate except a driver frequently clipping a kerb or mechanic beating the hell out of another hub with a hammer. £170 - £180 to replace, £90 to buy, mine cost €6 or €7 including delivery from China, at that price I bought several in case they did not last but the one I replaced has been every bit as reliable as the OE ones.
  21. Sorry, posting for views and likes is an alien concept for me, I give the various like/thanks/love it whatevers in response to what people have written/posted. I notice that you have quoted yourself and asked yourself a question, what is all that about? Re the RAL colours someone is selling a tin of RAL 9010 because it is creamy white despite the RAL term being "Pure white" if you look at the colour images on Google they vary from yellowy cream through off white to brilliant white, there is a similar colour variation in your RAL 5002, suppliers may get their stuff powder coated in a RAL colour but then use a different description like Racing Blue, I understand that but not the huge variations in what should be standardised colours.
  22. Perfect for when you have visitors without transport and I am guessing in your case where your partner visits for defined periods. Much better than having unused bikes cluttering up the place and requiring some maintenance.
  23. What a revelation, - who would have known!
  24. In your dreams perhaps, RAL 5002 is Ultra-marine blue.
