  1. 225/50R18 fitted to a 7J rim is about 233mm wide when inflated. That's about 18mm wider than a 215/65R16 fitted to 6J rim. Before purchasing a full size spare, I suggest you try the 225/50R18 tyre/rim before making any purchase decision. The 225/50R18 might only fit with the carpet flush when there's no air in the tyre. The 125/70R18 space saver tyre is a bad idea on the Karoq 4x4 (or even the Karoq 2x4) because the outside diameter is much smaller than the full sized tyres. It would be better to change to 135/80R18. The 135/80R18 space saver tyre could be fitted to the same rim that the 125/70R18 uses. A 135/80R18 has an outside diameter 1.3% smaller than 225/50R18, whereas the 125/70R18 has an outside diameter 7.3% smaller than 225/50R18. 2. The below information is taken from the 31/8/2020 Octavia MK4 owner's manual. However, 16" rims won't fit over the front brake calipers on 340x30mm front brake discs. However, owner's manuals from 14/6/2021 state that snow chains can be used with links and locks no larger than 13mm with the 205/55R17 6.5Jx17 ET46 tyre/rim combination, and they don't mention the 16" tyre/rim combination at all. Snow chains (from the 31/8/2020 Octavia MK4 owner's manual) The snow chains improve driving in wintry road conditions. Risk of accident as well as tyre damage. Do not use chains on routes that are free from snow and ice. Before fitting the snow chains, remove the full wheel trims. Only mount the snow chains on the front wheels. Permitted rim/tyre combinations for mounting of snow chains. 205/60R16 6.5Jx16 ET46 205/55R17 6.5Jx17 ET46 Only fit snow chains with links and locks that are no larger than 9mm. https://digital-manual.skoda-auto.com/w/en_GB/show/910deba671a3412ad565664dc8a32a82_7_en_GB?ct=910deba671a3412ad565664dc8a32a82_7_en_GB#titled20479122e115149

If you get hold of your car's build codes, you will be able to see what was fitted when the car left the factory. There's an ebay seller who can supply the build codes for about 3 Euros. Search "skoda vin decoder" on ebay. search "skoda vin decoder" on ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224631127243 For example, build codes 1JA+0YC would mean that you have 3Q0511115AK rear springs as shown in the chart below. 4. wheel-size.com lists 17" wheels for the Cupra R which uses the 323x28mm front brake discs. However, the Seat parts catalogue shows two different types of front brake calipers that are used with these size discs. The Brembo front brake calipers are listed as 18" on the Skoda parts catalogue, so they would appear to need at least 18" rims. 5. Just to add to the above information: A 215/65R16 tyre fitted to a 6J rim is about 215mm when inflated. A Superb MK3 only accepts a 215mm wide tyre (when inflated) in the spare wheel well without raising the carpet, so maybe that's also the limit for the Karoq. Although it could be that the Karoq 4x4 and Karoq 2x4 are different. As you can see in the chart below the 225/45R19 and 215/65R16 tyre sizes have almost identical outside diameters. If the inflated 225/45R19 fitted to an 8J rim is raising the carpet, then the 215/65R16 fitted to a 6J rim would lower the carpet by about 16mm. So if 215/65R16 fits in the spare wheel well without raising the carpet, then that would be a better size to use as a spare rather than 205/65R16. Outside diameter of tyre 225/45R19 685.1mm 215/65R16 685.9mm 6Jx16 ET43 5/112 57.1 steel rim https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rims/details?vehicleId=1302234084152546416&rimCode=ALCAR6665 https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/plechovy-disk-16-/p/5Q0601027CJ03C
  6. There's no need to remove the lip with a file before measuring with digital calipers. Just use something like a couple of magnets to measure the thickness of the disc including the thickness of the magnets. Then deduct the thickness of the magnets to get the thickness of the disc. Or if you haven't got magnets, use something else such as a couple of coins. That way, the digital calipers will be able to reach over the lip without the lip affecting the measurement.
  7. Yes, the OP does appear to have purchased a Karoq 4x4 kit instead of a Karoq 4x2 kit for his Karoq 4x2...at least going by the OEM part number. If you purchase the kit, I suggest you try one of your 225/45R19 wheels to see if its a good fit...including whether the carpet sits flush with the wheel in the spare wheel well. A 225/60R16 tyre fitted to a 6J rim is about 222mm wide when inflated. A 225/45R19 tyre fitted to an 8J rim is about 231mm wide when inflated. Therefore, if the carpet is a little raised with the 225/45R19 wheel in place, it might be better to use a 9mm (ie. 231mm-222mm=9mm) narrower 225/60R16 spare wheel. Many people incorrectly think that the 225 marked on the tyre's sidewall means that the tyre is 225mm wide. This is incorrect, because the 225 that is marked on the tyre's sidewall is only the nominal width. The actual width (when the tyre is inflated) varies depending on what rim width the tyre is fitted to. If the 225/60R16 tyre fitted to a 6J rim is still raising the carpet, then using a narrower non-standard 205/65R16 tyre but fitted to the same 6Jx16 ET43 5/112 57.1 rim could be used. A 205/65R16 tyre fitted to a 6J rim is about 209mm wide when inflated.
  8. There are two kits shown on "skoda eshop cz". One is for the Karoq 4x2 and one for the Karoq 4x4. The OEM part number for the Karoq 2x4 kit is 57A093860 The OEM part number for the Karoq 4x4 kit is 57A093860A https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/sada-pro-vymenu-rezervniho-kola/p/57A093860 You could probably order either of them through a UK Skoda dealer.
  9. An 80% of the tyre width rule wouldn't take into account the aspect ratio. As you can see in the chart below, the ETRTO approved rim widths vary depending not only on the width of the tyre but also the aspect ratio. As the aspect ratio goes down, the range of approved rim widths tends to go up for any given tyre width. ETRTO approved rim widths for passenger car tyres 205/80 5.0-5.5-7.0 205/70 5.0-6.0-7.0 205/65 5.5-6.0-7.5 205/60 5.5-6.0-7.5 205/55 5.5-6.5-7.5 205/50 5.5-6.5-7.5 205/45 6.5-7.0-7.5 205/40 7.0-7.5-8.0
  10. For the Octavia MK3 Scout, you could use 215/60R16 tyres and 6Jx16 ET43 rims from the Karoq. AT (All-Terrain) tyres are available in the 215/60R16 tyres size. AT tyres work better in the mud than normal tyres, but don't work as well in other conditions. However, tyres are always a compromise. If normal tyres are going to leave you stuck in the mud, then AT tyres could be a good idea. 6Jx16 ET43 5/112 57.1 steel rims (from the Karoq) https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rims/details?vehicleId=1302234084152546416&rimCode=ALCAR6665 Yokohama G015 Geolander AT 215/60R16 95H https://www.camskill.co.uk/m62b0s111p164244/Yokohama_Tyres_Car_Yokohama_G015_Geolander_AT_Yokohama_G_015_-_215_60_R16_95H_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_E_Wet_Grip%3A_C_NoiseClass%3A_B_Noise%3A_71dB Another tyre and rim size option could be 205/70R15 tyres fitted to 6Jx15 ET43 rims. 15" tyres and rims will only clear the front brake calipers if the front discs aren't bigger than 288mm diameter. The Octavia MK3 might not use front discs bigger than 288mm if the engine power is no more than 150HP, but it's worth checking or measuring the diameter of the front brake discs to be sure. 6Jx15 ET43 5/112 57.1 steel rims (from the Octavia MK3) https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rims/details?vehicleId=502374559312254064&rimCode=ALCAR7755 Yokohama G015 Geolander AT 205/70R15 96H https://www.camskill.co.uk/m53b0s2481p148166/Yokohama_Tyres_Car_Yokohama_G015_Geolander_AT_Yokohama_G_015_-_205_70_R15_96H_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_E_Wet_Grip%3A_C_NoiseClass%3A_B_Noise%3A_70dB
  11. Some Octavia MK3 VRS owners have fitted 235/35R19 tyres to their 7.5Jx19 ET51 X-TREM rims, instead of the standard 225/35R19 size. 235/35R19 is a more common tyre size. However, ETRTO recommends at least an 8J rim for the 235/35R19 tyre size as shown in the chart below. ETRTO approved rim widths for passenger car tyres 225/35 7.5-8.0-9.0 235/35 8.0-8.5-9.5 Michelin CrossClimate 2 235/35R19 91Y XL https://www.blackcircles.com/catalogue/michelin/crossclimate-2/235/35/R19/Y/91/m?tyre=42847916 225/35R19 or 235/35R19 don't have much sidewall height, so there's a much greater risk of tyre and rim damage when driving over potholes. In the winter when there is snow and flooding, you might not see a pothole. Even in the summer, when driving at speed and in the dark you might not see a pothole soon enough to avoid it. If you want cheap but good winter wheels, maybe consider 6.5Jx17 ET38 steel rims from the Kodiaq fitted with 205/50R17 winter tyres. The Continental WinterContact TS870P have done really well in the latest tyre reviews. Good winter tyres don't just work well below freezing, but below about 7 degrees Centigrade they will start to outperform summer tyres. 6.5Jx17 ET38 5/112 57.1 steel rims (from the Kodiaq) https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rims/details?vehicleId=672860434273997936&rimCode=ALCAR9021 Continental WinterContact TS870P 205/50R17 93V XL https://www.camskill.co.uk/m97b0s635p214354/Continental_Tyres_Winter_Snow_Car_Continental_Conti_Winter_Contact_TS_870P_-_205_50_R17_93V_XL_FR_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_C_Wet_Grip%3A_B_NoiseClass%3A_B_Noise%3A_71dB
  12. If the thickness of the front discs is actually more like 28.5mm then just change the brake pads. If they really are 28.0mm (to the nearest 0.1mm) then change the discs as well. Most digital calipers can measure to one-hundedth of a millimetre, so there really shouldn't be any problem measuring to the nearest tenth of a millimetre.
  13. The 340x30mm front discs have a minimum thickness of 27mm. The 310x22mm rear discs have a minimum thickness of 20mm. To say 1mm off the minimum thickness is really sloppy. I would take measurements to the nearest 0.1mm not the nearest 1mm. For example, what were the measurements taken on the front discs. There's a big difference between 27.5mm and 28.5mm. 28.5mm and you would probably just fit new brake pads. 27.5mm and you would probably change the discs. Bear in mind that changing pads and discs is easy and profitable work for a mechanic, and there's a lot of overselling going on.
  14. 215/50R17 tyres have the same standard load index as 205/55R16 and 225/45R17, so use the same tyre pressures that you would use with those tyre sizes.
  15. 215/65R16 isn't a standard Octavia tyre size.
  16. On the Superb MK2, you could use 6.5Jx17 ET38 steel rims from the Kodiaq with 205/50R17 tyres. 6.5Jx17 ET38 5/112 57.1 steel rims from the Kodiaq https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rims/rim-selector?type=steel&vehicle_ids=1087544543219315824%3A%3A0002 205/55R16 tyres are a much cheaper and slightly more comfortable size than 205/50R17. Fitting a 205/55R16 tyre to a 6J rim will be more comfortable than fitting this size tyre to a wider 6.5J or 7J rim. 6Jx16 ET43 5/112 57.1 steel rim from the Karoq https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rims/rim-selector?type=steel&vehicle_ids=1285990449114256496%3A%3A0002 Other 6Jx16 options include 6Jx16 ET40 from the Superb MK1 6Jx16 ET40 5/112 57.1 steel rim from the Superb MK1 https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rims/details?vehicleId=180498027838968944&rimCode=ALCAR9490 6.5Jx16 options include 6.5Jx16 ET46 from the Octavia MK3 and the Octavia MK4 6.5Jx16 ET46 5/112 57.1 steel rim from the Octavia MK3 https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rims/details?vehicleId=1192953623500182640&rimCode=ALCAR8667 6.5Jx16 ET46 5/112 57.1 steel rim from the Octavia MK4 https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rims/rim-selector?type=steel&vehicle_ids=1275564879859717232%3A%3A0008
  17. I would like to drive a Skoda hybrid that hasn't been invented yet. It would have a 650cc 2 cylinder turbo petrol engine with 75PS and maximum torque produced from 1,600rpm. The electric motor would also have 75PS making a total power of 150PS. 0-100km/h in 8 seconds. The battery pack on its own would give a range of 500 kilometers. On petrol power alone its fuel consumption wouldn't be more than 4l/km at a constant 80km/h.
  18. A GTI has wider tyres, bigger brakes, and stiffer suspension than the plain vanilla version so it can go round corners quicker and stop quicker. However, the actuary who works out the risk for the insurance company will tell you that the GTI is a higher risk even though it has higher performance. Clearly, in general the person driving the GTI isn't using the extra performance to give him a bigger safety margin but is often driving faster and with reduced safety margins...and hence more accidents and the corresponding higher insurance premiums.
  19. The wheel bolts used with all Skoda cars with 5 wheel bolts are the same. So you can use Karoq wheel bolts with Kodiaq rims. M14x1.5x27 wheel bolts WHT001812
  20. Your car is only 5 years old. There's plenty of 20 year old cars that are still on the original front brake pads...and still working well. It's tyres that harden with age, not pads.
  21. Like others have said, the outside diameter of the Kodiaq 215/65R17 tyre size is too big for the Karoq 4x4. If you want 17" tyres rather than 16" tyres, then 215/60R17 would be a good option rather than the standard Karoq 4x4 225/55R17 especially if you are going to use the 6.5Jx17 ET38 Kodiaq rims on the Karoq 4x4. 215/60R17 is a common tyre size and cheaper than all of the Karoq 4x4 225/60R16, 225/55R17, 225/50R18, and 225/45R19 tyre sizes. The outside diameter of 215/60R17 is very close to your current 225/45R19 tyre size. Michelin CrossClimate 2 215/60R17 96H https://www.camskill.co.uk/m140b0s8016p208542/Michelin_Tyres_All_Season_Car_Michelin_Cross_Climate_2_-_215_60_R17_96H_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_C_Wet_Grip%3A_B_NoiseClass%3A_B_Noise%3A_71dB You can see in the chart below, that a 6.5J rim width is ideal for a 215/60R17 tyre size, hence it's highlighted in bold. ETRTO approved rim widths 215/60 6.0-6.5-7.5
  22. As you can see in the chart below, a 215/65R16 tyre size can be fitted to a rim between 6J and 7.5J. If you're not sure what rim width to use for this tyre size in the ETRTO approved range, then 6.5J is a good starting point and hence is highlighted in bold. ETRTO approved rim widths for 215/65R16 tyre size 215/65 6.0-6.5-7.5 These rims are close to the standard ET45 Yeti offset and 6.5J is an ideal rim width for a 215/65R16 tyre size. The below photos are actual photos of these rims and are not generic photos. Alcar 6667 6.5Jx16 ET46 5/112 57.1 steel rim (from Octavia MK4) https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rims/details?vehicleId=1275564879859717232&rimCode=ALCAR6667 Alcar 130001 6.5Jx16 ET46 5/112 57.1 steel rim (from Octavia MK3) https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rims/details?vehicleId=1192953623500182640&rimCode=ALCAR130001 Alcar 8667 6.5Jx16 ET46 5/112 57.1 steel rim (from Octavia MK3) https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rims/details?vehicleId=1192953623500182640&rimCode=ALCAR8667
  23. The 6.5Jx17 ET38 steel rim from the Kodiaq would fit the Karoq. The offset is only 7mm different, and would move the centre of the tyre 7mm further outwards within the wheelarch compared to the standard 7Jx17 ET45 Karoq rim. 6.5Jx17 ET38 5/112 57.1 steel rim https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rims/details?vehicleId=672860434273997936&rimCode=ALCAR9021
  24. More grip doesn't necessarily increase safety because of driver psychology. Give a driver more performance and they will often use that performance and have more accidents.
  25. BoxerBoy has a Kodiaq which have bigger outside diameter tyres. For example, 215/65R17 tyres on the Kodiaq have much bigger sidewalls than 215/55R17 tyres on the 2WD Karoq or even the 225/55R17 tyres on the 4WD Karoq. The Kodiaq is also a bigger car than the Karoq, so it's like comparing a Superb MK3 with an Octavia MK3, ie. it's not a direct comparison.
