  1. ETRTO approved rim widths 235/35 8.0-8.5-9.5 245/35 8.0-8.5-9.5 The 8.5" rim width is ideal for both the 235/35R20 and 245/35R20 tyre sizes, as shown in the chart above. 245/35R20 is a more common and cheaper tyre size than 235/35R20. Uniroyal RainSport 5 245/35R20 95Y XL (about 190 Australian Dollars each) https://www.camskill.co.uk/m63b0s339p188353/Uniroyal_Tyres_Car_Uniroyal_RainSport_5_-_245_35_R20_95Y_XL_FR_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_D_Wet_Grip%3A_A_NoiseClass%3A_B_Noise%3A_72dB
  2. 235/30R20 isn't the usual tyre size on an Octavia MK4. The outside diameter is too small, and so is the load index. Outside diameter 225/45R18 659.7mm 225/40R19 662.6mm 235/30R20 649mm The XL load index of a 235/30R20 tyre size is 88 (560kg) which is lower than all of the Skoda approved tyre sizes.
  3. The front tyres on FWD cars wear much quicker than the rears. One option is to keep the new tyres on the front until they wear out. It's often claimed that it's best to fit two new tyres on the rear and move the part worn rear tyres to the front. However, if you have 5mm of tread on the rear it's not necessary because the front tyre wear will quickly catch up with the wear on the current rears. Next time when it comes to tyre replacement you will then be able to look for four matching new tyres.
  4. camskill are based in the UK. However, I was using that website to give examples. There are plenty of other tyre sellers in the UK and it's always worth shopping around for the best price and service.

The 16" and 17" options are far more comfortable, make less noise, more mpg, and are cheaper. If you've got 340mm diameter front discs, then 17" rims will be the minimum size. If you like to fit non-standard tyre sizes, then there are lots of options such as: Michelin CrossClimate 2 225/55R16 99V XL (Euro label B B 71dB) £138.70 https://www.camskill.co.uk/m139b0s8009p208559/Michelin_Tyres_All_Season_Car_Michelin_Cross_Climate_2_-_225_55_R16_99W_XL_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_B_Wet_Grip%3A_B_NoiseClass%3A_B_Noise%3A_71dB Michelin CrossClimate 2 225/50R17 98V XL (Euro label B B 71dB) £130.80 https://www.camskill.co.uk/m140b0s8019p208529/Michelin_Tyres_All_Season_Car_Michelin_Cross_Climate_2_-_225_50_R17_98V_XL_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_B_Wet_Grip%3A_B_NoiseClass%3A_B_Noise%3A_71dB Octavia MK4 alloy rims https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/hlinikove-disky/c/alloyWheels?q=%3ApriceAsc%3AcarType%3AOctavia%2BIV%2B%282019%2B%29&page=0
  6. The VW Polo MK5 came out years before the Fabia MK3. The VW Polo MK5 used the same 185/60R15 tyre size fitted to the same 6Jx15 ET38 rims that the later Fabia MK3 used, so maybe VAG dealers started selling the VW Polo MK5 spare wheel as a spare wheel for the Fabia MK2. 185/60R15 (fitted to 6Jx15 ET38 rims) was likely a cheaper spare wheel option than 195/55R15 (fitted to 6Jx15 ET43 rims). If a Fabia MK2 owner was using non-standard and oversize (bigger outside diameter) 215/40R17 tyres, then 185/60R15 would have been a good match to the outside diameter of the 215/40R17 tyres (closer than 195/55R15).
  7. That is why in most other countries, 17" wheels are very popular on the Octavia MK3 VRS instead of 18" wheels. The extra sidewall height makes the rims far more resistant to pothole damage. I suggest you sell your remaining good wheels one at a time (ie. singley), as this is a very common problem...so plenty of buyers out there looking to replace their pothole damaged wheels. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Škoda_Octavia#/media/File:20200509_Skoda_Octavia_vRS_Estate.jpg 17" rims for the Octavia MK3 https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/hlinikove-disky/c/alloyWheels?q=%3ApriceAsc%3AcarType%3AOctavia%2BIII%2B%282017%2B%29 https://www.lllparts.co.uk/catalogs/skoda/CZ/OCT/753/6/601/601070 https://www.lllparts.co.uk/catalogs/skoda/CZ/OCT/753/0/071/71070
  8. Could the choice of non-standard 185/60R15 over standard 195/55R15 on the Fabia MK2 have anything to do with price? ie. lower price on 185/60R15 compared to 195/55R15. Although the 185/60R15 would give a better ride, and slightly better mpg due to slightly less drag being a narrower tyre. Michelin CrossClimate 2 185/60R15 88V XL £85.50 https://www.camskill.co.uk/m138b0s7989p208561/Michelin_Tyres_All_Season_Car_Michelin_Cross_Climate_2_-_185_60_R15_88V_XL_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_B_Wet_Grip%3A_B_NoiseClass%3A_B_Noise%3A_69dB Michelin CrossClimate 2 195/55R15 89V XL £105.95 https://www.camskill.co.uk/m138b0s7992p208530/Michelin_Tyres_All_Season_Car_Michelin_Cross_Climate_2_-_195_55_R15_89V_XL_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_B_Wet_Grip%3A_B_NoiseClass%3A_A_Noise%3A_69dB
  9. It's possible people were using 185/60R15 size tyres as spares before the Fabia MK3 came out, but it wouldn't have been fitted to the same style of 6Jx15 ET38 steel rim that the Fabia MK3 uses, because that wasn't available until the Fabia MK3 came out. One of the benefits of the 185/60R15 tyre size was the lower price compared to the 195/55R15 tyre size. Fabia MK3 6Jx15 ET38 steel rim (notice the 6 square holes for the wheel trims) https://www.oponeo.pl/felga-stalowa/alcar-kfz-7760#22916128 Octavia MK1 6Jx15 ET38 steel rim https://www.oponeo.pl/felga-stalowa/alcar-kfz-8380#22776394
  10. The 185/60R15 (which was fitted to a 6Jx15 ET38 rim) didn't come out until the Fabia MK3, so couldn't have been OEM on the Fabia MK2.
  11. 185/60R15 isn't an OEM size on the Fabia MK2, although I expect it would fit in the spare wheel well because the outside diameter is only 7.5mm more than the 195/55R15 tyre size.

Price is about £99.18 on their 30% discount day (ie. Mondays). You can tell they match 5Q0615423C because that is the only OEM part number mentioned on the listing, and the colour is specifically stated to be red, and the below photo is shown on the listing. The right side 5Q0615424C isn't currently available on autodoc. https://www.autodoc.co.uk/trw/7488940 TRW right rear brakes calipers matching 5Q0615424C is not currently in stock on autodoc. https://www.autodoc.co.uk/trw/7488941 However, they do have the plain coloured ones matching 5Q0615424B https://www.autodoc.co.uk/trw/7488939
  13. What specification are the 15" alloy rims that are fitted? If you find out, you might be able to get a matching 15" steel rim, ie. same width and offset. The 15" rims that the Fabia MK2 normally uses have a specification of 6Jx15 ET43 which you can see in the chart below. As you will see, there are three different steel rim sizes that the Fabia MK2 uses, 5Jx14 ET35, 6Jx14 ET37, 6Jx15 ET43. The 5Jx14 would normally use the 165/70R14 tyre size, the 6Jx14 would normally use the 185/60R14 tyre size, and the 6Jx15 would normally use the 195/55R15 tyre size. The outside diameter of a 185/65R15 tyre is a massive 7.6% bigger than 185/60R14, although a more reasonable 4.4% bigger than 195/55R15. As long as the 185/65R15 doesn't rub (including on full steering lock) and you are happy that the gearing, especially 1st gear and top gear isn't too high. However, 185/65R14 would have been a better choice than 185/65R15 as it keeps the gearing standard, and can be fitted to either of the two standard 14" rims. 1 6Q0601027R Steel rim 5Jx14 ET35 6Q0601027R 03C rally black 1 6Q0601027AC Steel rim 5Jx14 ET35 6Q0601027AC 03C rally black 1 6Q7601027B Steel rim 6Jx14" ET37 6Q7601027B 03C rally black 1 6Q7601027C Steel rim 6Jx14 ET37 6Q7601027C 03C rally black 1 6Q0601027M Steel rim 6Jx15 ET43 6Q0601027M 03C rally black https://www.lllparts.co.uk/catalogs/skoda/CZ/FAB/697/6/601/601010 Note that 6Qxxxxxxxx is the same OEM part number as 6Qxxxxxxxx 03C. The 03C is simply the associated colour code, and the OEM part number can be quoted with or without this final 3-digit colour code. Most people don't bother adding the 3-digit colour code to the OEM part number, because adding the 3-digit colour code makes the already long OEM part number even longer. There are at least 20 different specifications of VAG steel rims that would fit the Fabia MK2, ie. PCD 5/100, Centre bore 57.1, including: 5Jx14 ET35 6Jx14 ET37 5Jx14 ET38 6Jx14 ET38 6Jx14 ET43 5Jx15 ET28 6Jx15 ET29 5.5Jx15 ET34 6.5Jx15 ET34 6Jx15 ET35 6Jx15 ET38 5.5Jx15 ET40 6Jx15 ET43 6Jx16 ET31 6Jx16 ET35 3.5Jx16 ET38 (space saver rim) 6Jx16 ET40 6.5Jx16 ET42 6Jx16 ET45 3.5Jx18 ET38 (space saver rim)

  15. Having lower gearing for the 60PS version than the 75PS would make no sense as they both have the same low down torque and so the lower powered version can just as easily pull the same gears as the 75PS version. Having different gearboxes and/or final drive would add unnecessary expense to produce the cars. Lower gearing would mean higher fuel consumption, and the 60PS version is actually slightly more economical than the 75PS version, ie. 4.5L/100km instead of 4.7L/100km. As you can see in the below chart, both versions produce 95Nm of torque between 3,000rpm and 4,300rpm. 1.0 Litre non-turbo petrol engine 60PS/75PS 95Nm@3,000rpm–4,300rpm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Up#Engines It would have been nice if the Citigo had been produced in a 0.65Litre (650cc) two cylinder turbo petrol version with 75PS/130Nm. That could have made an average fuel consumption of 4L/100km (70mpg) possible instead of 4.4L/100km (64mpg) for the 1.0Litre (1,000cc) three cylinder turbo petrol. As a turbo petrol engine can have maximum torque coming in much lower in the rev range (perhaps from 1,500rpm to 3,000rpm) than a non-turbo petrol engine, a 650cc two cylinder turbo engine would be much nicer to drive than a 1,000cc three cylinder non-turbo petrol engine.

  18. As you can see below, 17" wheels can be fitted to the Octavia MK3 VRS. The Octavia MK3 facelift diesel VRS has smaller front 312mm discs, so 16" wheels will fit those cars. 205/50R17 tyres fitted to either 6Jx17 ET45 or 6Jx17 ET48 rims are approved for snow chains. 225 tyres are too wide for snow chains on the Octavia MK3. 19. On the Yeti, it's a simply job to go from 288mm to 312mm front brake discs and vice-versa, as they are both ATE brake systems and just the brake caliper carriers and discs need changing.
