Hi Jon This is a diagram that might be helpful to you in diagnosing the issue. It might be a bit fuzzy

Nurburgring Mk1 Fabia... LOL!
🤣 No Not guilty this time Sep. That's way too tame for us over here .....! You all need to visit the Donegal Rally 16th to 18th June this year. That's all we will say at this moment in time except we will show a picture of "The Genie" over Letterleague. I

ABS Pump Problem - Have I missed Something Obvious ?
Aye thanks for that J.R. - I didn't take a photo of the damaged cable - It was chafed open and the conductor was exposed and probably over time and damp the conductor went "green" The choccy block was a temporary fix which is now permanent. The whole loom has been all re wrapped and some flexible trunking put on so its looking decent now ! I was told in the past that vibration would eventually break solder joints and to use connectors - This came from a tractor mechanic ...! Ive done a right bit of soldering over the years on cars and never had a problem with breakage or dry joints. A meter is a fair enough way of testing but as it only draws micro amps it wont draw sufficient current to expose a cable that is broken down ! No hiding place from a H7 bulb as it will draw around 5A. Just be mindful of which section you are testing as if its connected to the body control module you could damage it - It was the main feed from the battery in my case so this test Id say given the age of the cars now we will see a few age related issues like this starting to surface !! Thanks again lads for pointing me in the right direction 👍

ABS Pump Problem - Have I missed Something Obvious ?
Hi All Well we got to the bottom of the problem ! As Breezy Pete have me a really good line up ! We went for the ABS pump connector and it had 12v on both pin 7 and pin 25 When we tested both with a H7 bulb we found that 25 would not light the bulb properly - So the deduction from that was the loom had broken down - Although there was 12v it could not carry the current required ! We replaced a dodgy section and all is now well again The Fabia is now of an age where these problems will start to surface die to degraded looms. Lads Thanks a million for your help - Again this forum has saved the day and got me another NCT 👍

ABS Pump Problem - Have I missed Something Obvious ?
Thanks a Mill for the info Pete ... I went through it all and it was like you said above - All fuses were intact and I replaced #6 with a fuse rather than wire 9 This wont make any difference I know but a fuse is there for a reason) Next step is to take out the airbox and disconnect the plug of the ABS pump and make sure that I am getting 12v at pin #7 and #25 If that all works out we can be certain that the pump is gone. Thanks again Pete - Really appreciated !

How much ?
Should we call the RSPCA ...? 🤣 Apologies Lynn but I couldn't resist that one - Childish I know 😒

ABS Pump Problem - Have I missed Something Obvious ?
Thanks for that Pete - She is a 2005. I just went checking with a meter and there is 12v on the circuit side of each strip fuse - Am I right in saying that all the strip fuses are 12v permanent from the battery ? I'll go digging again when the daylight comes and the temperature goes up a wee bit !!

ABS Pump Problem - Have I missed Something Obvious ?
Hi All I have a small NCT unfriendly problem with my vRS and hopefully somebody has seen it before ...! I have checked through this forum and was delighted as Devonutopia seemed to have my answer but alas that was not to be ! Problem so far 3 loud beeps Traction and ABS light on steady with flashing red low fluid level light on - No ABS or ASR working What I have tried Basic diagnostic tool says "ABS Valves Voltage Supply" - This I thought was a duff fuse Fuse #25 inside OK Strip fuse #6 at the battery - Some person of questionable parentage appears to have replaced this with a piece of wire which is still intact !! Is it reasonable for me to deduce that before my ownership this problem came up where strip fuse #6 failed and got replaced by a piece of wire - The ABS unit has now cooked itself as it has no protection ? Ahh the joys of going in after somebody else's bodge ....!! I havent seen too many ABS units changed on this forum in fairness and I would like to get a definitive answer before I go swapping bits hoping that the problem will go away ! Better change that piece of wire for a proper fuse and see if it lets go perhaps ? Anything I have missed or anything else to check - Nothing is off the deck at the minute and I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks in Advance

This is the other end of the scale from Loftys project Daffodil 🤗 Ahh well at least I don't have to blank the number plate with the mixture of grime soot and motorway salt. Definitely the rattiest Fabia on this forum by a long way - I promise I will get her cleaned over Santa time !

Lofty's Sprint Yellow Fabia vRS Mk1 - "Project Daffodil"
That car is just another level Lofty ! Well done. Them pictures of the underside wow ...! You will need a covered trailer now for the show season! I have to hang my head in shame every time I see this thread as mine has to be the rattiest, dirtiest and unkept vRS in the world....! 😞

Wanted- Skoda Fabia VRS Special Edition
I would have to respectfully challenge the above statement - Just a little dubious Anybody looking for the list of criteria you require is an Investor/Private Collector ... There is no way you would buy a 25k mile unmolested SE to daily drive! They do exist but are not on the open market as yet - In 6 or 7 years perhaps when they get scarce ! Most doggy ones have been culled off. If it is a daily you are after there is absolutely nothing to fear from a car at 160k+ as long as the servicing regime is kept up to date. At this stage in the Mk1 Fabia vRS lifecycle various items will have been replaced - interiors do not fair too well - there will be various warwounds on the bodywork. Mine is the exact opposite - Big miles, modified, dents and dings, various unoriginal parts but it drives really well and is mechanically stable and economical. If you really want all the criteria met then no offence but you should have gone to the dealer in 2007 and put your name down for an SE and then put it away. You have missed the boat and now your attention is drawn to some random article that lists "25 Future Classics that are worth investing in now".

Fabia vrs smoke map?
Glenamaddy was a bit of a mecca for the agri spec VW/PSA group in the past when myself and Mrs.Vanhire first dated as well The most of them were running their cars on "Green Biddy" just to add to the smoke !

4th gear problem
That's the syncro (Dog) rings alright - Mine had this problem from when I got it and I nursed it until it eventually cried enough blew the seals out, siezed and took the centre out of the clutch plate ! The gearbox casing was split so basically it was scrap I got a replacement box at the time and its not been too bad - It will complain going into second when cold but if you are aware of this you just take your time with the change and it will go in. You are probably better to go and get the box refurbished as second hand boxes now are a gamble - you could be just as far back as ever !

Aftermarket Radio Issues
Not so much Ryan - If you seek out the stations it just seems to keep going without picking up any thing .. I manually tuned it for I copied the frequencies from Mrs. Vanhires car and the reception is really bad I just slotted in the radio from the classic car and the results were the same I surely didnt get a dodgey antenna ..? Its a genuine one from the dealer so Id be surprised if it was a duffer Im going to go tonight on one last throw and retrace all the steps - If it still plays up Im going to give it up and put in a windscreen aerial Electronic Antenna, 12v | MicksGarage I fitted one of these in the old car and it works great and is very discreet but that is a cop out🤔

Aftermarket Radio Issues
Hi All Mrs. Vanhire and myself are swapping cars next week as her long suffering Civic needs a few jobs doing - She is not happy to drive my car as the radio reception is really terrible. It makes no difference to me as I listen to MP3's as the radio has nothing but bad news and adverts anyway. Over the last few days I have been trying to get this sorted out. I fitted a radio booster as advised on this forum - in fact 2 just to rule it out. This didn't work So I replaced the full antenna on the back as the old one didn't look great and also had an aftermarket mast which was cross threaded into place - This didn't work either The radio itself is a Pioneer MHV-160UI which is fine for me I am going to swap in another radio to test tonight to rule it in or out Have I missed sommit ? Is there anything else in the antenna circuit like a pinch point ? Any ideas lads no matter how far fetched you think it might be is on the table as Im completely baffled Thanks in Advance

The "Official" Mk1 Fabia Rust Thread
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204026900938?hash=item2f80f371ca:g:5fIAAOSwdcViwzuq Pretty extreme case of rust here - 157k miles - This confirms what yous have said earlier about the SEs being rusty ! Ryan you should put a bid in here and get 2 new inner and outer sills put on - You would need tp see it first ! This particular car is well in the danger zone 😓

To weld or not to weld
Unfortunately we all have to face the fact now that our cars will suffer this due to age. This is now the point in time where a massive cull takes place and once popular makes and models suffer a big decline leaving the Mk1 Fabia somewhat endangered. Maybe now is the time we all get together and compile a list of where exactly bodywork rot trouble starts and put it in a sticky on the forum, then we will all have an awareness and will be able to spot rot problem areas early. Anybody that has broken up a Mk1 Fabia will know exactly where to target ! As nta16 alluded to, panels rot from the inside out and once you see it its already advanced - Has anyone ever seen the back arches on a Mk3 Cavalier ..? Once the back arches are bubbling the complete back section of the rear chassis legs are like cream crackers. This was the biggest single factor in the Mk3 Cavvys demise. I'm hoping that things go OK at the bodyshop and that they dont take the proverbial quoting an unrealistic price to put you off !!

Exhaust hitting the floor ? I had this on mine at times under acceleration - Thats my 10p into the ring

To weld or not to weld
Patching that hole will work for a while but next year will be as bad as ever and the car will surely fail again. Albeit a different vehicle but I've seen patching done to Porsche 944's and 924's and this ends up with the car needing both sills. With this done properly and properly sealed it lasts very well. As I said the last of the 944 is 10 years older than the oldest Polo/Fabia so not a good example !! I say get 2 brand new sills front to back and get a good bodyshop to weld them in and seal them properly - Otherwise patch it up test and flog or scrap altogether As Ryan alluded to if you like her, she is mechanically stable and you intend on driving her on for many more years then 2 sills it is !

Recent pics of your fabia for no reason, just stick em up!
The thread title is "your Fabia" but I'm throwing this in anyway. Spied this 1.2 Furby on a back street in Salou last week - The only Mk1 I saw. Definitely a lot cleaner than mine 😄
